UNTERSUCHUNG DER VERTEILUNG VERSCHIEDENER MIT LÖSUNGSMITTELFREIEN (ÄTHER FREIEN) KATALITISCHEN GRIGNARD-VERFAHREN HERGESTELLTEN PHENYLÄTHOXYSILANE
The distribution of the product mixtures from the one-step catalytic Grignard syntheses
was investigated in the case of phenylethoxysilanes. It was stated, that the Fuoss distribution
theory can be used for describing of the distribution of the differently substituted phenylethoxysilanes
formed in the reaction-mixture only if the dependence of α and ß distribution
coefficients on the R/Si (Phenyl-Silicon atom) ratio was taken into account during the reaction
A fogyasztók növényvédőszermaradékokból származó expozíciójának finomítása, 2. rész = Refining customer exposure due to pesticide residues - Part 2.
Cikkünk első részében a fogyasztói expozíció pontszerű és probabilisztikus becslésének alapelveit ismertettük. In the first part of our article principles of the point and probabilistic estimation of customer exposure were described. Individual crop weight distribution data and their characteristic properties, necessary for performing more accurate calculations, were also published. In the current work, mathematical relationships used for the calculation of „refined” probabilistic exposure estimation are described, which can uniformly take into consideration the raw material proportions of complex foods, the effect of processing operations on the pesticide residue concentrations in the raw product, the pesticide residue concentration in the portion of produce to be consumed, and also the different pesticide residue concentrations in the individual crops. Based on the determination of pesticide residues in nearly 20000 individual crops, by applying the experimental data obtained in different produce groups, it is possible to determine customer exposure more accurately than using values taken by random sampling from parametric functions fitted on the basis of a limited number of results, which can approximate the real distribution only with substantial error. In order to facilitate more accurate estimation, individual variability factors and values characteristic of the main produce groups are published
A fogyasztók növényvédőszermaradékokból származó expozíciójának finomítása, 1. rész = Refining customer exposure due to pesticide residues - Part 1.
A növényvédő szerek, a fogyasztók egészsége szempontjából biztonságos felhasználási körülményeit az engedélyezésüket megelőzően végzett szerkísérletek eredményei alapján, pontszerű eredményt adó, úgynevezett determinisztikus eljárással ellenőrzik. The targeted use patterns of pesticides are evaluated, in relation to the safety of consumers based on the results of supervised trials performed before registration, The dietary intake of the relevant resiudes is calculated with the so called deterministic method providing only a point estimate. Customer exposure can be determined more realistically and in a more refined way based on the results of monitoring programmes performed following practical application of the pesticides, especially by using probabilistic calculation procedures gaining ground gradually in practical applications. In addition to consumption data of the crops treated, for crops of medium size, their individual weight distribution and the variability factor expressing the relationship of pesticide residues in the individual units and the average residues in the samples are required for calculations performed by both methods. For the latter two parameters, only limited data are available from a few countries. To refine the methodology of probabilistic exposure assessment, we determined the individual weight distributions of nearly 50 fruits and vegetables available in Hungary, and the variability of pesticide residues in crop units, based on data from our international research programs,. In the first part of our work, basic principles of the deterministic and probabilistic procedures, the individual weight distributions of the crops, and their characteristic properties are described
Ms Excel-alapú módszer célorientált mintavételi terv készítéséhez = Ms excel-based method for the preparation of target-oriented sampling plans
A mintavételi terv használatával - késedelem nélkül beavatkozva - megelőzhető a határértéket meghaladó AFM1 szennyezettségű, nagy mennyiségű tételek megsemmisítése, illetve forgalomba kerülése. For realistic evaluation of the results of control analyses, it is essential that it is performed in accordance with the purpose of the analysis. One of the prerequisites of the evaluation of the results using the usual statistical methods is random sampling, which means that each member of the predetermined population to be sampled (sampling frame) is chosen with the same probability. The sampling frame, in the case of stratified sampling, may include a subgroup of the whole population under investigation. A single stratum can consist of, for example, production units deemed high risk, based on previous experience, businesses specializing in the production of organic products, or a certain age group of a country’s population. Given that the analysis of all commercial lots is very rarely justified or feasible, inspection of production practice is performed on the basis of an analytical program based on random sampling. In this paper, an MS Excel-based procedure satisfying special conditions and suitable for random sampling is presented, which was developed for the inspection of the aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) contamination of milk samples, however, its principles - adapted to the given conditions - may be applied in other cases as well. One of the advantages of the procedure developed is that it enables the creation of sampling sequences with significantly higher numbers, than do manual methods. Performing the operation helps in all cases when a fixed number of random samples is taken regularly from a sampling frame of constant element number. For example, the procedure may be suitable for the monitoring of the production of a given group of raw material suppliers, whether it be the inspection of the pesticide residue content of raw materials used for the production of dairy products, baby food, or other fruit or vegetable-based products, during the harvest or immediately prior to it. Another important advantage of the method is that it enables the weighting of the units within the sampling range. The goal of the statistical analysis [3] providing the background for the procedure - which was carried out together with Italian partners - was to prepare a sampling plan that enables the detection of an increase in AFM1 concentrations due to environemental effects in a timely and cost-effective manner (with a minimum number of samples and a given statistical reliability). Using the sampling plan, and by intervening immediately, destruction of large lots with AFM1 contaminations exceeding the limit value, or their commercial distribution can be prevented
Multicomponent flow on curved surfaces : A vielbein lattice Boltzmann approach
We develop and implement a novel finite difference lattice Boltzmann scheme to study multicomponent flows on curved surfaces, coupling the continuity and Navier-Stokes equations with the
Cahn-Hilliard equation to track the evolution of the binary fluid interfaces. The standard lattice
Boltzmann method relies on regular Cartesian grids, which makes it generally unsuitable to study
flow problems on curved surfaces. To alleviate this limitation, we use a vielbein formalism to write
down the Boltzmann equation on an arbitrary geometry, and solve the evolution of the fluid distribution functions using a finite difference method. Focussing on the torus geometry as an example of
a curved surface, we demonstrate drift motions of fluid droplets and stripes embedded on the surface
of such geometries. Interestingly, they migrate in opposite directions: fluid droplets to the outer
side while fluid stripes to the inner side of the torus. For the latter we demonstrate that the global
minimum configuration is unique for small stripe widths, but it becomes bistable for large stripe
widths. Our simulations are also in agreement with analytical predictions for the Laplace pressure of
the fluid stripes, and their damped oscillatory motion as they approach equilibrium configurations,
capturing the corresponding decay timescale and oscillation frequency. Finally, we simulate the
coarsening dynamics of phase separating binary fluids in the hydrodynamics and diffusive regimes
for tori of various shapes, and compare the results against those for a flat two-dimensional surface. Our finite difference lattice Boltzmann scheme can be extended to other surfaces and coupled
to other dynamical equations, opening up a vast range of applications involving complex flows on
curved geometries
Quantum superposition principle and gravitational collapse: Scattering times for spherical shells
A quantum theory of spherically symmetric thin shells of null dust and their
gravitational field is studied. In Nucl. Phys. 603 (2001) 515 (hep-th/0007005),
it has been shown how superpositions of quantum states with different
geometries can lead to a solution of the singularity problem and black hole
information paradox: the shells bounce and re-expand and the evolution is
unitary. The corresponding scattering times will be defined in the present
paper. To this aim, a spherical mirror of radius R_m is introduced. The
classical formula for scattering times of the shell reflected from the mirror
is extended to quantum theory. The scattering times and their spreads are
calculated. They have a regular limit for R_m\to 0 and they reveal a resonance
at E_m = c^4R_m/2G. Except for the resonance, they are roughly of the order of
the time the light needs to cross the flat space distance between the observer
and the mirror. Some ideas are discussed of how the construction of the quantum
theory could be changed so that the scattering times become considerably
longer.Comment: 30 pages and 5 figures; the post-referee version: shortened and some

Effect of angiotensin-converting enzyme gene insertion/deletion polymorphism and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibition on erythropoiesis in patients on haemodialysis.
BACKGROUND: Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEis) improve survival; however, their effect on erythropoiesis remains a matter of debate in this population. Since insertion/deletion (I/D) polymorphism of the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) gene largely influences serum ACE activity, its effect on erythropoiesis is also anticipated. METHOD: In this multicentre, cross-sectional study of 660 patients on maintenance haemodialysis, we analysed the effect of ACEi use and ACE gene I/D polymorphism on haemoglobin levels and erythropoietin resistance. Patients were allocated in groups based on genotype and ACEi therapy. We identified 128 matched pairs with I/I and D/D genotypes. RESULT: There was no difference in haemoglobin levels between genotype groups. Haemoglobin levels were lower in patients on ACEi therapy in the entire cohort (95.5+/-12.1 g/l vs 97.4+/-13.4 g/l, p=0.02) and patients with I/D (95.2+/-11 g/l vs 98.2+/-11.9 g/l, p=0.04) and D/D (93.3+/-13.2 g/l vs 97.4+/-14.2 g/l, p=0.02) genotypes. In patient pairs treated with ACEi therapy, subjects with D/D genotype had lower Haemoglobin level (93.0+/-12.8 g/l vs 98.2+/-11.9 g/l, p=0.006) and higher erythropoietin resistance index (ERI) (199.1 vs 175.0, p=0.046) than individuals with I/I genotype. CONCLUSION: These results indicate that ACEi therapy may increase erythropoietin resistance and worsen erythropoiesis in haemodialysis patients with the D allele
