Single wall carbon nanotube double quantum dot
We report on two top-gate defined, coupled quantum dots in a semiconducting
single wall carbon nanotube, constituting a tunable double quantum dot system.
The single wall carbon nanotubes are contacted by titanium electrodes, and
gated by three narrow top-gate electrodes as well as a back-gate. We show that
a bias spectroscopy plot on just one of the two quantum dots can be used to
extract the addition energy of both quantum dots. Furthermore, honeycomb charge
stability diagrams are analyzed by an electrostatic capacitor model that
includes cross capacitances, and we extract the coupling energy of the double
quantum dot.Comment: Published in Applied Physics Letters 4 December 2006.

Critical Current 0- Transition in Designed Josephson Quantum Dot Junctions
We report on quantum dot based Josephson junctions designed specifically for
measuring the supercurrent. From high-accuracy fitting of the current-voltage
characteristics we determine the full magnitude of the supercurrent (critical
current). Strong gate modulation of the critical current is observed through
several consecutive Coulomb blockade oscillations. The critical current crosses
zero close to, but not at, resonance due to the so-called 0- transition in
agreement with a simple theoretical model.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, (Supplementary information available at

Design and verification of a 24 kA calibration head for a DCCT test facility
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is CERN's next particle accelerator project, scheduled for commissioning in 2005. The project requires accurate current measurements above 10 kA. Calibration heads have been developed in collaboration with industry to work up to 24 kA at sub-ppm accuracy. The paper describes the design and verification
Convex optimization problem prototyping for image reconstruction in computed tomography with the Chambolle-Pock algorithm
The primal-dual optimization algorithm developed in Chambolle and Pock (CP),
2011 is applied to various convex optimization problems of interest in computed
tomography (CT) image reconstruction. This algorithm allows for rapid
prototyping of optimization problems for the purpose of designing iterative
image reconstruction algorithms for CT. The primal-dual algorithm is briefly
summarized in the article, and its potential for prototyping is demonstrated by
explicitly deriving CP algorithm instances for many optimization problems
relevant to CT. An example application modeling breast CT with low-intensity
X-ray illumination is presented.Comment: Resubmitted to Physics in Medicine and Biology. Text has been

Power filtration of CMB observational data
We propose a power filter Gp for linear reconstruction of the CMB signal from
observational maps. This Gp filter preserves the power spectrum of the CMB
signal in contrast to the Wiener filter which diminishes the power spectrum of
the reconstructed CMB signal. We demonstrate how peak statistics and a cluster
analysis can be used to estimate the probability of the presence of a CMB
signal in observational records. The efficiency of the Gp filter is
demonstrated on a toy model of an observational record consisting of a CMB
signal and noise in the form of foreground point sources.Comment: 17 pages; 4 figures; submitted to International Journal of Modern

Multi-object spectroscopy of low redshift EIS clusters. I
We report the results of the first multi-object spectroscopic observations at
the Danish 1.54m telescope at La Silla, Chile. Observations of five cluster
candidates from the ESO Imaging Survey Cluster Candidate Catalog are described.
From these observations we confirm the reality of the five clusters with
measured redshifts of 0.11<=z<=0.35. We estimate velocity dispersions in the
range 294-621km/s indicating rather poor clusters. This, and the measured
cluster redshifts are consistent with the results of the matched filter
procedure applied to produce the Cluster Candidate Catalog.Comment: 7pages, accepted by Astronomy and Astrophysic
The Cosmological Gene Project: cluster analysis of the atmospheric fluctuations on arcmin-scale imaging of the Cosmic Microwave Background
We discuss some aspects of the Cosmological Gene Project started at the
Special Astrophysical Observatory (Russia) in 1999. The goal of the project is
to measure the anisotropy and polarization of the Cosmic Microwave Background
(CMB) and investigation of atmospheric fluctuations and foreground on
arcmin-scales using the radio-telescope RATAN-600. We develop the cluster
analysis of one-dimensional random fields for the application to the RATAN-600
scans. We analyze the specific properties of peak clusterisation in the
RATAN-600 scans which to separate the primordial CMB signal from noise.Comment: Submitted to Astronomy & Astrophysic
High Current, Low Voltage Power Converter [20kA, 6V]: LHC Converter Prototype
The superconducting LHC accelerator requires high currents (~12.5kA) and relatively low voltages (~10 V) for its magnets. The need to install the power converters underground is the driving force for reduced volume and high efficiency. Moreover, the LHC machine will require a very high level of performance from the power converters, particularly in terms of DC stability, dynamic response and also in matters of EMC. To meet these requirements soft-switching techniques will be used. This paper describes the development of a [20kA,6V] power converter intended as a stable high-current source for D CCT calibration and an evaluation prototype for the future LHC converters. The converter is made with a modular concept with five current sources [4kA,6V] in parallel. The 4kA sources are built as plu g-in modules: a diode rectifier on the AC mains with a damped L-C passive filter, a Zero Voltage Switching inverter working at 20 kHz and an output stage (high frequency transformers, Schottky rectifi ers and output filters). The obtained performance (DC stability, bandwidth, efficiency, EMC,...) is presented and discussed
Biological activity of glucosinolate derived compounds isolated from seed meal of Brassica crops and evaluated as plant and food protection agents
Glucosinolates are amino acid derived allelochemicals characteristic of plants of the order Capparales. These compounds are present in seeds of agriculturally common Brassica crops in varying quantities depending on the species (ref). The use of the remaining seed cake after oil extraction has traditionally been limited by the concentration of these compounds. However, the extraction of glucosinolates from seed meal is nowadays possible and it further contributes to an increased quality of the seed meal for feed (Sørensen et al., this conference). Glucosinolates are hydrolysed by endogenous enzymes (myrosinases; EC 3.2.1.147) and a number of compounds are produced depending on the parent glucosinolate and the environmental conditions.1 Among these compounds, oxazolidine-2-thiones are known for their antinutritional effects on monogastric animals, whereas isothiocyanates are fungicidal, nematocidal and herbicidal.2,3 The possibility for using glucosinolates as precursors for environmental friendly biocides therefore exists, which could contribute to increase the value of the Brassica seed meal
Superconductivity-enhanced bias spectroscopy in carbon nanotube quantum dots
We study low-temperature transport through carbon nanotube quantum dots in
the Coulomb blockade regime coupled to niobium-based superconducting leads. We
observe pronounced conductance peaks at finite source-drain bias, which we
ascribe to elastic and inelastic cotunneling processes enhanced by the
coherence peaks in the density of states of the superconducting leads. The
inelastic cotunneling lines display a marked dependence on the applied gate
voltage which we relate to different tunneling-renormalizations of the two
subbands in the nanotube. Finally, we discuss the origin of an especially
pronounced sub-gap structure observed in every fourth Coulomb diamond
