Results on Multiple Coulomb Scattering from 12 and 20 GeV electrons on Carbon targets

    Get PDF
Multiple scattering effects of 12 and 20 GeV electrons on 8 and 20 mm thickness carbon targets have been studied with high-resolution silicon microstrip detectors of the UA9 apparatus at the H8 line at CERN. Comparison of the scattering angle between data and GEANT4 simulation shows excellent agreement in the core of the distributions leaving some residual disagreement in the tails.Comment: 14 pages, 16 figures. Observation of D0ρ0γD^0\to \rho^0\gamma and search for CPCP violation in radiative charm decays

    We report the first observation of the radiative charm decay D0ρ0γD^0 \to \rho^0 \gamma and the first search for CPCP violation in decays D0ρ0γD^0 \to \rho^0 \gamma, ϕγ\phi\gamma, and K0γ\overline{K}{}^{*0} \gamma, using a data sample of 943 fb1^{-1} collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^+e^- collider. The branching fraction is measured to be B(D0ρ0γ)=(1.77±0.30±0.07)×105\mathcal{B}(D^0 \to \rho^0 \gamma)=(1.77 \pm 0.30 \pm 0.07) \times 10^{-5}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The obtained CPCP asymmetries, ACP(D0ρ0γ)=+0.056±0.152±0.006\mathcal{A}_{CP}(D^0 \to \rho^0 \gamma)=+0.056 \pm 0.152 \pm 0.006, ACP(D0ϕγ)=0.094±0.066±0.001\mathcal{A}_{CP}(D^0 \to \phi \gamma)=-0.094 \pm 0.066 \pm 0.001, and ACP(D0K0γ)=0.003±0.020±0.000\mathcal{A}_{CP}(D^0 \to \overline{K}{}^{*0} \gamma)=-0.003 \pm 0.020 \pm 0.000, are consistent with no CPCP violation. We also present an improved measurement of the branching fractions B(D0ϕγ)=(2.76±0.19±0.10)×105\mathcal{B}(D^0 \to \phi \gamma)=(2.76 \pm 0.19 \pm 0.10) \times 10^{-5} and B(D0K0γ)=(4.66±0.21±0.21)×104\mathcal{B}(D^0 \to \overline{K}{}^{*0} \gamma)=(4.66 \pm 0.21 \pm 0.21) \times 10^{-4}

    Search for a dark vector gauge boson decaying to π+π\pi^+ \pi^- using ηπ+πγ\eta \rightarrow \pi^+\pi^- \gamma decays

We report a search for a dark vector gauge boson UU^\prime that couples to quarks in the decay chain D+D0π+,D0KS0η,ηUγD^{*+} \to D^0 \pi^+, D^0 \to K^0_S \eta, \eta \to U^\prime \gamma, Uπ+πU^\prime \to \pi^+ \pi^-. No signal is found and we set a mass-dependent limit on the baryonic fine structure constant of 10310210^{-3} - 10^{-2} in the UU^\prime mass range of 290 to 520 MeV/c2c^2. This analysis is based on a data sample of 976 fb1^{-1} collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^+e^- collider.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure

Search for D0D^{0} decays to invisible final states at Belle

We report the result from the first search for D0D^0 decays to invisible final states. The analysis is performed on a data sample of 924 fb1\rm{fb}^{-1} collected at and near the Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) and Υ(5S)\Upsilon(5S) resonances with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^{+}e^{-} collider. The absolute branching fraction is determined using an inclusive D0D^0 sample, obtained by fully reconstructing the rest of the particle system including the other charmed particle. No significant signal yield is observed and an upper limit of 9.4×1059.4\times 10^{-5} is set on the branching fraction of D0D^0 to invisible final states at 90\% confidence level.Comment: 17 pages, 4 figures, submitted to PRD(RC

Search for CP Violation in the Decay Z -> b (b bar) g

About three million hadronic decays of the Z collected by ALEPH in the years 1991-1994 are used to search for anomalous CP violation beyond the Standard Model in the decay Z -> b \bar{b} g. The study is performed by analyzing angular correlations between the two quarks and the gluon in three-jet events and by measuring the differential two-jet rate. No signal of CP violation is found. For the combinations of anomalous CP violating couplings, h^b=h^AbgVbh^VbgAb{\hat{h}}_b = {\hat{h}}_{Ab}g_{Vb}-{\hat{h}}_{Vb}g_{Ab} and hb=h^Vb2+h^Ab2h^{\ast}_b = \sqrt{\hat{h}_{Vb}^{2}+\hat{h}_{Ab}^{2}}, limits of \hat{h}_b < 0.59and and h^{\ast}_{b} < 3.02$ are given at 95\% CL.Comment: 8 pages, 1 postscript figure, uses here.sty, epsfig.st

Studies of charmed strange baryons in the ΛD\Lambda D final state at Belle

We report the discovery of Ξc(3055)0\Xi_{c}(3055)^{0}, observed by its decay into the final state ΛD0\Lambda D^{0}, and present the first observation and evidence of the decays of Ξc(3055)+\Xi_c(3055)^{+} and Ξc(3080)+\Xi_c(3080)^{+} into ΛD+\Lambda D^{+}. We also perform a combined analysis of the ΛD+\Lambda D^{+} with the Σc++K\Sigma_{c}^{++}K^{-} and Σc++K\Sigma_{c}^{\ast ++}K^{-} decay modes to measure the ratios of branching fractions, masses and widths with improved accuracy. We measure the ratios of branching fractions B(Ξc(3055)+ΛD+)/B(Ξc(3055)+Σc++K)=5.09±1.01±0.76{\cal B}(\Xi_{c}(3055)^{+} \to \Lambda D^{+})/{\cal B}(\Xi_{c}(3055)^{+} \to \Sigma_{c}^{++}K^{-})=5.09\pm1.01\pm0.76, B(Ξc(3080)+ΛD+)/B(Ξc(3080)+Σc++K)=1.29±0.30±0.15{\cal B}(\Xi_{c}(3080)^{+} \to \Lambda D^{+})/{\cal B}(\Xi_{c}(3080)^{+} \to \Sigma_{c}^{++}K^{-})=1.29\pm0.30\pm0.15, and B(Ξc(3080)+Σc++K)/B(Ξc(3080)+Σc++K)=1.07±0.27±0.01{\cal B}(\Xi_{c}(3080)^{+} \to \Sigma_{c}^{\ast ++}K^{-})/{\cal B}(\Xi_{c}(3080)^{+} \to \Sigma_{c}^{++}K^{-})=1.07\pm0.27\pm0.01, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic. The analysis is performed using a 980 fb1^{-1} data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^{+}e^{-} collider.Comment: Submitted to PR

Search for the 00^{--} Glueball in Υ(1S)\Upsilon(1S) and Υ(2S)\Upsilon(2S) decays

We report the first search for the JPC=0J^{PC}=0^{--} glueball in Υ(1S)\Upsilon(1S) and Υ(2S)\Upsilon(2S) decays with data samples of (102±2)(102\pm2) million and (158±4)(158\pm4) million events, respectively, collected with the Belle detector. No significant signals are observed in any of the proposed production modes, and the 90\% credibility level upper limits on their branching fractions in Υ(1S)\Upsilon(1S) and Υ(2S)\Upsilon(2S) decays are obtained. The inclusive branching fractions of the Υ(1S)\Upsilon(1S) and Υ(2S)\Upsilon(2S) decays into final states with a χc1\chi_{c1} are measured to be \BR(\Upsilon(1S)\to \chi_{c1}+ anything) = (1.90\pm 0.43(stat.)\pm 0.14(syst.))\times 10^{-4} with an improved precision over prior measurements and \BR(\Upsilon(2S)\to \chi_{c1}+ anything) = (2.24\pm 0.44(stat.)\pm 0.20(syst.))\times 10^{-4} for the first time.Comment: 19 pages, 17 figures, Fig.10b was polished, but all the results unchanged. Measurement of the τ\tau lepton polarization and R(D)R(D^*) in the decay BˉDτνˉτ\bar{B} \to D^* \tau^- \bar{\nu}_\tau

    We report the first measurement of the τ\tau lepton polarization Pτ(D)P_\tau(D^*) in the decay BˉDτνˉτ\bar{B} \rightarrow D^* \tau^- \bar{\nu}_\tau as well as a new measurement of the ratio of the branching fractions R(D)=B(BˉDτνˉτ)/B(BˉDνˉ)R(D^{*}) = \mathcal{B}(\bar {B} \rightarrow D^* \tau^- \bar{\nu}_\tau) / \mathcal{B}(\bar{B} \rightarrow D^* \ell^- \bar{\nu}_\ell), where \ell^- denotes an electron or a muon, and the τ\tau is reconstructed in the modes τπντ\tau^- \rightarrow \pi^- \nu_\tau and τρντ\tau^- \rightarrow \rho^- \nu_\tau. We use the full data sample of 772×106772 \times 10^6 BBˉB{\bar B} pairs recorded with the Belle detector at the KEKB electron-positron collider. Our results, Pτ(D)=0.38±0.51(stat.)0.16+0.21(syst.)P_\tau(D^*) = -0.38 \pm 0.51 {\rm (stat.)} ^{+0.21}_{-0.16} {\rm (syst.)} and R(D)=0.270±0.035(stat.)0.025+0.028(syst.)R(D^*) = 0.270 \pm 0.035{\rm (stat.)} ^{+0.028}_{-0.025}{\rm (syst.)}, are consistent with the theoretical predictions of the Standard Model.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, submitted to Physical Review Letters; one figure was removed from the first versio
