Ingredients of nuclear matrix element for two-neutrino double-beta decay of 48Ca
Large-scale shell model calculations including two major shells are carried
out, and the ingredients of nuclear matrix element for two-neutrino double beta
decay are investigated. Based on the comparison between the shell model
calculations accounting only for one major shell (-shell) and those for two
major shells (-shell), the effect due to the excitation across the two
major shells is quantitatively evaluated.Comment: To appear in J. Phys. Soc. Conf. Proc. (ARIS2014); for ver.2, Fig.1

Autoparametric Excitation and Self-powered SSHI for Power Enhancement in Piezoelectric Vibration Energy Harvester
© Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd. We proposed an autoparametric excitation harvester employing a microfabricated leaf spring for the base beam and a synchronized switch harvesting on inductor (SSHI) interface. Our harvester achieved miniaturization, low threshold acceleration of the autoparametric excitation, and increase in output power, compared with the previous work. The base beam for amplifying the excitation was microfabricated from a stainless steel film, through the photolithography followed by the wet-chemical etching. To trigger the autoparametric excitation, the main and the base beams are designed such that the resonance frequency for the base beam becomes twice higher than that for the main beam. The resonance frequencies obtained in experiment for the main and the base beams were 26.6 and 53.1 Hz, respectively. This study employed a self-powered parallel SSHI interface, which can increase the piezoelectric voltage and thus the output power, consuming only a small portion of the harvested energy. The harvester connected with the self-powered SSHI interface successfully displayed the autoparametric excitation at acceleration greater than 1.0 m/s2, and the output power showed 1.12 mW at the frequency of 53.1 Hz under the acceleration of 2.0 m/s2, which is 1.43-fold increase over the standard AC-DC interface

Pickoff and spin-conversion quenchings of ortho-positronium in oxygen
The quenching processes of the thermalized ortho-positronium(o-Ps) on an
oxygen molecule have been studied by the positron annihilation age-momentum
correlation techinique(AMOC). The Doppler broadening spectrum of the 511 keV
gamma-rays from the 2gamma annihilation of o-Ps in O_2 has been measured as a
function of the o-Ps age. The rate of the quenching, consisting of the pickoff
and the spin-conversion, is estimated from the positron lifetime spectrum. The
ratio of the pickoff quenching rate to the spin-conversion rate is deduced from
the Doppler broadening of the 511 keV gamma-rays from the annihilation of the
o-Ps. The pickoff parameter ^1Z_eff, the effective number of the electrons per
molecule which contribute to the pickoff quenching, for O_2 is determined to be
0.6 +- 0.4. The cross-section for the elastic spin-conversion quenching is
determined to be (1.16 +- 0.01) * 10^{-19} cm^2.Comment: 4 pages with 5 eps figures, LaTeX2e(revtex4

Nonadiabatic generation of coherent phonons
The time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) is the leading
computationally feasible theory to treat excitations by strong electromagnetic
fields. Here the theory is applied to coherent optical phonon generation
produced by intense laser pulses. We examine the process in the crystalline
semimetal antimony (Sb), where nonadiabatic coupling is very important. This
material is of particular interest because it exhibits strong phonon coupling
and optical phonons of different symmetries can be observed. The TDDFT is able
to account for a number of qualitative features of the observed coherent
phonons, despite its unsatisfactory performance on reproducing the observed
dielectric functions of Sb. A simple dielectric model for nonadiabatic coherent
phonon generation is also examined and compared with the TDDFT calculations.Comment: 19 pages, 11 figures. This is prepared for a special issue of Journal

Numerical Investigation of Mechanically and Electrically Switching SSHI in Highly Coupled Piezoelectric Vibration Energy Harvester
© Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd. In aiming to increase output power for piezoelectric vibration energy harvesters, a self-powered synchronized switch harvesting on inductor (SSHI) using an electrical or mechanical switch has considerable attention. However, the advantages and disadvantages of the two switching technique for the self-powered SSHIs remains unclear. In addition, for a harvester with a high electromechanical coupling coefficient k, the piezoelectric damping force, which enhances by the SSHI's voltage increase, is likely to reduce the harvester's displacement and thus lower the output power. We developed simulation technique, and numerically investigated the performance for the electrical switch SSHI (ESS) and for the mechanical switch SSHI (MSS) harvester, considering the feedback of the piezoelectric damping force. The numerical investigation revealed that, for the ESS, the piezoelectric damping force reduces the displacement every switching on at the maximum/minimum displacement, and thus lowers the output power. In contrast, the MSS, in which the switch turns on only when the displacement exceeds the gap distance, achieved a higher output power, and exhibited intriguing phenomena that the output power continues to increase, whereas the displacement is held constant. Therefore, for a harvester with high k, the MSS can outweigh the ESS
Planar Elongation Flow Analysis of Non-Newtonian Fluids Using a Disk-Shaped Bob
Planar elongation viscosity is a material property involved in extensional deformation, which plays a significant role in many processes such as film-casting and coating. As for the elongation behavior of a polymeric film, some commercial measurement methods are available. However, these measurement methods cannot be applied to liquids with lower viscosities. A method of measuring planar elongation viscosity, especially for low viscosity liquids, has been proposed, which generates a planar elongation flow by pushing a bullet-shaped bob into a cup filled with the sample liquid. The pushing force, which can be measured by a conventional rheometer, reflects the responses of shear, planar extensional deformation, and buoyancy. However, measurements using a bulletshaped bob may be strongly affected by the shear flow between the bob and the cup. Therefore, an alternative measurement using a flat disk-shaped bob is proposed, in order to significantly reduce the influence of shear flow. However, such improvements cannot be estimated numerically. In this study, we performed numerical simulations of viscoelastic fluids for both measurement methods to clarify the shear flow effects
