    Non-separated states from squeezed dark-state polaritons in electromagnetically-induced-transparency media

    Within the frame of quantized dark-state polaritons in electromagnetically-induced-transparency media, noise fluctuations in the quadrature components are studied. Squeezed state transfer, quantum correlation, and noise entanglement between probe field and atomic polarization are demonstrated in single- and double-Λ\Lambda configurations, respectively. Even though a larger degree of squeezing parameter in the continuous variable helps to establish stronger quantum correlations, inseparability criterion is satisfied only within a finite range of squeezing parameter. The results obtained in the present study may be useful for guiding experimental realization of quantum memory devices for possible applications in quantum information and computation.Comment: 12 pages, 7 figure

    The importance of detailed epigenomic profiling of different cell types within organs.

    The human body consists of hundreds of kinds of cells specified from a single genome overlaid with cell type-specific epigenetic information. Comprehensively profiling the body's distinct epigenetic landscapes will allow researchers to verify cell types used in regenerative medicine and to determine the epigenetic effects of disease, environmental exposures and genetic variation. Key marks/factors that should be investigated include regions of nucleosome-free DNA accessible to regulatory factors, histone marks defining active enhancers and promoters, DNA methylation levels, regulatory RNAs, and factors controlling the three-dimensional conformation of the genome. Here we use the lung to illustrate the importance of investigating an organ's purified cell epigenomes, and outline the challenges and promise of realizing a comprehensive catalog of primary cell epigenomes

    Small-cell lung cancer-associated autoantibodies: potential applications to cancer diagnosis, early detection, and therapy

    Small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) is the most aggressive lung cancer subtype and lacks effective early detection methods and therapies. A number of rare paraneoplastic neurologic autoimmune diseases are strongly associated with SCLC. Most patients with such paraneoplastic syndromes harbor high titers of antibodies against neuronal proteins that are abnormally expressed in SCLC tumors. These autoantibodies may cross-react with the nervous system, possibly contributing to autoimmune disease development. Importantly, similar antibodies are present in many SCLC patients without autoimmune disease, albeit at lower titers. The timing of autoantibody development relative to cancer and the nature of the immune trigger remain to be elucidated. Here we review what is currently known about SCLC-associated autoantibodies, and describe a recently developed mouse model system of SCLC that appears to lend itself well to the study of the SCLC-associated immune response. We also discuss potential clinical applications for these autoantibodies, such as SCLC diagnosis, early detection, and therapy

    The purpose of this study was to determine the adequacy of protein intake for weightlifters in preparation for the upcoming PON. Quantitative descriptive research, using survey method. The research instrument uses a table food recall and activity recall format. The research sample amounted to 5 athletes with a total sampling technique. The data analysis technique used descriptive statistics from food recall data which was calculated using nutrisurvey. The results of the study were the fulfillment of calories 37%, fulfillment of protein 67.8%, fulfillment of fat 41.6%, and fulfillment of carbohydrates 37.6%. These results indicate that the fulfillment of excessive protein intake, adequate amounts of fat and carbohydrate intake in deficiency of all the total energy needed

    Ethnobotany of Lontar (Borassus flabellifer L.) in Tuamese Village, East Nusa Tenggara

    Lontar is a plant that distributed in tropical areas and has beneficial values for the people in Tuamese Village, Biboki Anleu District, North Central Timor Regency. However, the information about the ethnobotany of lontar is not documented. This research aimed to determine the utilization of lontar in Tuamese Village. Data were collected using semi-structured interview techniques and field observation. The ethnobotany data were analyzed to calculate cultural significance index value. The results showed that the people in Tuamese Village who generally work as lontar farmers use stem, leaves, flowers, and fruit as building and fence materials, handicraft materials, food and drink ingredients, and firewood. Product from sap flower, namely liquid sugar, slab sugar, and traditional fermented drink (sopi) are the leading trade commodity. The utilization of lontar in Tuamese Village is grouped into seven forms of utilization with index of cultural significance 151 and classified very high. The classification means that lontar greatly affects people's lives in Tuamese Village and its use has become cultured. People's dependence on lontar is very high so the conservation effort needs to make the existence of lontar is maintained.   Keywords: index cultural significance, lontar, Tuames
