The following article “Resisting Oblivion” is part of a long research on a Palestinian demolished village, Lubya, and its historiography before and after its demolition in 1948. This article is part of a forthcoming book, due to be published in both Danish and English in Denmark this year. The article is based mainly on the oral accounts of the elderly generation from the village – 700 people were interviewed – and archival documents, pieced together to produce this microcosmic piece of modern Palestinian historiography, and to show the power of past memory acounts in shaping the lives of people, even after fifty-four years in exile.L’article qui suit, intitulé « Resisting Oblivion » (« Résister à l’oubli »), fait partie d’un long projet de recherche sur un village palestinien démoli, du nom de Lubya, ainsi que sur son historiographie avant et après sa démolition en 1948.

Modernization and the fertility transition, Egypt, 1975

This study investigates regional marital fertility differentials in Egypt and their relationship to the level of modernization of the region: defined as economic development and social and cultural change. The intermediate variables (Davis and Blake, 1965) underlying these regional levels and patterns of marital fertility are determined and their relation to the level of modernization of the region is also evaluated. In order to assess the nature of the recent decline in the crude birth rate in Egypt, the long term fertility and mortality levels are discussed. The prospects of a fertility transition in Egypt are assessed in terms of the current fertility level and pattern, the extent of deliberate fertility regulation, the urban-rural fertility differential and differentials by socioeconomic status. The study draws from Easterlin\u27s model of social and economic determinants of marital fertility as a frame of reference. The model\u27s basic social and economic intermediate variables (denoted Cn, Cd, and CR)are evaluated, and the model\u27s interpretations of cross-sectional marital fertility differentials by socioeconomic status and the long term fertility trend are empirically verified

Copolymerization of Acrylamide with Acrylic acid

    Get PDF
Low conversion copolymerization of acrylamide AM (monomer-1) have been conducted with acrylic acid AA in dry benzene at 70°C , using Benzoyl peroxide BPO as initiator . The copolymer composition has been determined by elemental analysis. The monomer reactivity ratios have been calculated by the Kelen-Tudos and Finman-Ross graphical procedures. The derived reactivity ratios (r1, r2) are: (0.620, 0.996) for (AM / AA) systems , and found that the reactivity of the monomer AA is more than the monomer AM in the copolymerization of (AA/AM) system. The reactivity ratios values were used for microstructures calculation

Resolution of five-component mixture using mean centering ratio and inverse least squares chemometrics

BACKGROUND: A comparative study of the use of mean centering of ratio spectra and inverse least squares for the resolution of paracetamol, methylparaben, propylparaben, chlorpheniramine maleate and pseudoephedrine hydrochloride has been achieved showing that the two chemometric methods provide a good example of the high resolving power of these techniques. Method (I) is the mean centering of ratio spectra which depends on using the mean centered ratio spectra in four successive steps that eliminates the derivative steps and therefore the signal to noise ratio is improved. The absorption spectra of prepared solutions were measured in the range of 220–280 nm. Method (II) is based on the inverse least squares that depend on updating developed multivariate calibration model. The absorption spectra of the prepared mixtures in the range 230–270 nm were recorded. RESULTS: The linear concentration ranges were 0–25.6, 0–15.0, 0–15.0, 0–45.0 and 0–100.0 μg mL(-1) for paracetamol, methylparaben, propylparaben, chlorpheniramine maleate and pseudoephedrine hydrochloride, respectively. The mean recoveries for simultaneous determination were between 99.9-101.3% for the two methods. The two developed methods have been successfully used for prediction of five-component mixture in Decamol Flu syrup with good selectivity, high sensitivity and extremely low detection limit. CONCLUSION: No published method has been reported for simultaneous determination of the five components of this mixture so that the results of the mean centering of ratio spectra method were compared with those of the proposed inverse least squares method. Statistical comparison was performed using t-test and F-ratio at P = 0.05. There was no significant difference between the results

Low conversion copolymerization of N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidon M.W = (111.14) VP (monomer-1) has been conducted with acrylic acid AA and methymethacrylate MMA in ethanol at 70ºC , using Benzoyl peroxide BPO as initiator . The copolymer composition has been determined by elemental analysis. The monomer reactivity ratios have been calculated by the Kelen-Tudos and Finman-Ross graphical procedures . The derived reactivity ratios (r1 , r2 ) are : (0.51 , 4.85) for (VP / AA ) systems and (0.34 , 7.58) for (VP , MMA) systems , and found the reactivity ratios of the monomer AA , MMA is mor than the monomer VP in the copolymerization of (VP / AA) and (VP /MMA) systems respectly . The reactivity ratios values were used for microstructures calculation

The present study aimed to detect the type of leadership for heads of departments administrators in Irbid University College and its relationship with employees' motivation toward work, and to achieve these objectives administrated  leadership style scale, and motivation towards work scale on a sample of 123 workers in Irbid University College for the academic year 2015 / 2016, after its achieved validity and reliability, the results showed that (Democratic) style from the standpoint of workers in Irbid university College and the workers have high level of motivation towards work, and there is statistically significant negative relationship at the level of statistical (α = 0.05) between the leadership style (dictatorship) and motivation of workers in Irbid university College towards the work, and there is statistically significant positive relationship at the level of statistical (α = 0.05) between the leadership style (Democratic) and motivation of workers in Irbid university College towards the work. Keywords: leadership style, department heads, Irbid University College, motivation towards wor
