Production of Slime Layer by Staphylococcus epidermidisIsolated From Corneal Infection

    Get PDF
A total of 37 Staphylococcus epidermidis isolates, isolated from corneal scraping of patients with bacterial keratitis and 20 isolates from healthy eyes (as control) (all isolates, isolated from, Ibn Al- Haietham eye hospital / Baghdad), were tested for slime production, 52.63% of all isolates were positive-slime production (23 isolates from patients and 7 isolates from controls). It was found that positive-slime producing S. epidermidis were exhibited a high resistance to antibiotics as compared to negative-slime producing isolates

Production of Biocellulosic Ethanol from Wheat Straw

    Get PDF
Wheat straw is an abundant lignocellulosic feedstock in many parts of the world, and has been selected for producing ethanol in an economically feasible manner. It contains a mixture of sugars (hexoses and pentoses).Two-stage acid hydrolysis was carried out with concentrates of perchloric acid, using wheat straw. The hydrolysate was concentrated by vacuum evaporation to increase the concentration of fermentable sugars, and was detoxified by over-liming to decrease the concentration of fermentation inhibitors. After two-stage acid hydrolysis, the sugars and the inhibitors were measured. The ethanol yields obtained from by converting hexoses and pentoses in the hydrolysate with the co-culture of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Pichia stipites were higher than the ethanol yields produced with a monoculture of S. cerevisiae. Various conditions for hysdrolysis and fermentation were investigated. The ethanol concentration was 11.42 g/l in 42 h of incubation, with a yield of 0.475 g/g, productivity of 0.272 gl ·h, and fermentation efficiency of 92.955 %, using a co-culture of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Pichia stipite

Some Orthogonal Polynomials Arising from Coherent States

We explore in this paper some orthogonal polynomials which are naturally associated to certain families of coherent states, often referred to as nonlinear coherent states in the quantum optics literature. Some examples turn out to be known orthogonal polynomials but in many cases we encounter a general class of new orthogonal polynomials for which we establish several qualitative results.Comment: 21 page

Photocatalytic degradation of 1,2-dichlorobenzene using immobilized TiO2/SnO2/WO3 photocatalyst under visible light: Application of response surface methodology

    Get PDF
Photodegradation of 1,2-dichlorobenzene over illuminated trimetallic oxide consisting of rutile TiO2 in major portion together with WO3 and SnO2 was studied with respect to the effect of physicochemical properties of the catalyst. The photocatalytic activity enhancement by the presence of surface defects due to calcination temperature was investigated with the information obtained from XRD, DRUV, PL, FESEM and XPS. Calcination of TiO2 at 950 °C resulted in highest activity. Decrease in percentage of degradation of 1,2-dichlorobenzene was noted when it was immobilized on PVC film and chitosan beads. The effect of calcination temperature, catalyst loading and pH was investigated for slurry and after immobilization. Further optimization study was carried out with the aid of response surface methodology utilizing Box–Behnken design. High correlation was obtained for the experimental and the predicted value (R2 = 0.9992, Adj. R2 = 0.9982 and Pred. R2 = 0.9971). Optimization result showed that the maximum percentage of degradation was achieved at calcination temperature of 961.2 °C, with catalyst loading of 0.22 g and pH 7.2. The presence of two intermediates was identified during the reaction using GC–MS. On top of that the photocatalyst could also be reused for several times

A new class of coherent states with Meixner-Pollaczek polynomials for the Gol'dman-Krivchenkov Hamiltonian

A class of generalized coherent states with a new type of the identity resolution are constructed by replacing the labeling parameter zn/n! of the canonical coherent states by Meixner-Pollaczek polynomials with specific parameters. The constructed coherent states belong to the state Hilbert space of the Gol'dman-Krivchenkov Hamiltonian.Comment: 10 pages, Submitte

AR-TO-KID: A speech-enabled augmented reality to engage preschool children in pronunciation learning

    Get PDF
AR-TO-KID is an application produced for preschool children between ages five to six years old with an Augmented Reality (AR) application. The significant purpose of AR-TO-KID is to improve the pronunciation of the children in English. Hence, this paper discusses an AR application with speech input. The detection of the children speech input when they need to pronounce the words correctly, and they need to have critical thinking to identify the environment suit with the 3D objects that they will utter the word. Educational technology should be interactive and attractive for 5 to 6 years old preschool children learning; however, some at preschool teachers still used the conventional methods in teaching and children are not fully engaged with the method. Therefore, this project is to design and develop an interactive AR tool called AR-TO-KID for preschool children in pronunciation learning and teaching. This paper presents the evaluation and testing for preschool children with non-native English speaking. The article ends with results and discussion

Investigating optical properties of ITO thin film grown by RF sputtering

    Get PDF
Indium tin oxide (ITO) thin films of different thickness were successfully grown on the corning glass substrate using radio frequency magnetron sputtering technique. All the sample were undergone heat treatment at temperature of 600 ºC for 4 hours inside a furnace. The measurement of the thickness have been performed using surface profiler and optical properties have been studied using UV-VIS spectroscopy in wavelength regime 200-2500 nm for determination of energy band gap. Energy band gap was calculated based on the optical transmittance and photon energy and being measured in range of 2.76 eV – 3.54 eV while the transmittance was approximately 90 %
