    The economic effects of net nominal protection coefficients for meat products in Iraq

    The research aims to release the effects of price policy for meat products in Iraq through the net nominal protection coefficients whether for the benefit of producers or consumers and measure the net nominal protection coefficient aggregate for all meat products combined. Finding ensure goods (Beef, Poultry, Fish), which are important food commodities in the lives of citizens; it is seen that a continuing rise in commodity prices, especially in recent years, which could harm the consumption of these products. The results showed that the producers Beef meat obtained the largest share of protection for fish and poultry producers. In general protection during the nineties was for the benefit of consumers and after the 2004-2010 year was protection for the benefit of producers of all types of meat. This was reflected on the values of synthesis protection coefficient of meat all. Iraqi currency exchange rates had a role in the price policy. The study advises advancement by animal production and improves the methods and techniques and provides output elements

    Adoption of Fragrant Rice Farming: The Case of Paddy Farmers in the East Coast Malaysia

    AbstractAnnually, Malaysia has to import approximately 30% of rice, including fragrant rice (Basmati and Jasmine type) to meet the shortage of domestic demand. The import of this specialty rice shows an up surging trend every year with a value of RM500 million. Mas Wangi or MRQ74 that has special characteristics and 80% similar attributes to Basmati type has been officially released in year 2005. The special characteristics such as long and slender grain shape, non- sticky and aromatic rice makes it preferred by Malaysian consumers and enabling it to tap the higher-end rice market, compared to normal white rice. The fragrant rice farming is one of the government initiatives to produce fragrant rice in large areas and needs full commitment from the farmers in non-granary areas. This study seeks to determine factors that influence new rice variety, MRQ74 adoption among paddy farmers in East Coast, Malaysia including the adoption behaviour. The study involved 28 farmers in non-granary areas in two districts; Pasir Mas and Tanah Merah, Kelantan via an in-depth interview approach. The results revealed that apart from the technology characteristics, there are other significant aspects that influence the adoption decision-making of the farmers such as extension services, capital resources, social influences, and institutional factor

    Agility barriers analysis in the Malaysian palm oil industry

    In a volatile global marketplace, the implementation of agility is viewed as fundamental key strategic consideration for the survival. In order to achieve competitive advantage and ready to adapt to potential changes, implementation of agility in the palm oil industry is considered to be major challenges due to different obstacles. However, these obstacles can be overcome with the implementation of a proper strategic decision as well as high commitments from all management levels to make changes in day-to-day activities. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the obstacles in implementing agility in the Malaysian Palm Oil Industry (MPOI). The survey was conducted in Peninsular Malaysia with 69 oil palm plantation estates. The mean ranking analysis was used to ascertain the rank of various agile statements for its implementation in the organization. The study revealed that strict budget was the biggest obstacle along with laid back attitude of the employee for implementing agility in the organization. The outcomes of this research provide an invaluable information to all strategic decision makers who desire their organizations to be an agile and be competitive in the market and to sustain in today’s competitive market as well as to maintain its dominant position in the world market

    The impact of food labeling on purchasing behavior among Non-Muslim consumers in Klang Valley

    The purpose of this study is to validate the impact of food labels among non Muslim Malaysian consumer using an extended theory of planned behavior model (TPB). In so doing, the study assessed the direct and indirect effect of food labeling on consumer intention to purchase or otherwise the food products of interest. A stratified random sampling technique was adopted in selecting 795 non Muslim consumers in Klang Valley Malaysia. The results of structural equation modeling supported the adequacy of the proposed model. This study contributes to and extends the understanding of the food labeling and purchasing behavior, identifying the rationales for purchasing of food products with labels that contains information such as Halal logo, ingredients and nutritive value
