    Percipirana socijalna podrška pacijenata uključenih u psihoterapijski tretman

    Paper is theoretically grounded in the model of social support. The aim of presented research is to gain insight in the perceived level of social support for people in hospital conditions due to the diagnostic criteria and forms of treatment. The proposed model is a multi-source support model. The sample of the study consists of 51 participants who were enrolled in some form of treatment in the University Psychiatric Hospital Vrapče, since the beginning of February to the end of April 2017. Multidimensional Scale of Social Support (MSPSS), was used. The highest score of perceived support is experienced by significant others (M= 5.72). Interestingly, weakest result of the perceived support by participants was obtained on the subscale of support experienced by the family (M = 5). Negative significant was found between perceived social support and age; support is negatively related to age. Older participants rated a lower level of support than the younger ones (-279*, Pearson’s correlation coefficient). There are no differences or significant correlations in the perception of social support, gender and form of treatment of participants.Rad je teoretski utemeljen na modelu socijalne potpore. Cilj predstavljenog istraživanja je steći uvid u percipiranu razinu socijalne potpore ljudima u bolničkim uvjetima zbog dijagnostičkih kriterija i oblika liječenja. Predloženi model je model podrške iz više izvora. Uzorak studije sastoji se od 51 sudionika koji su primljeni na neki oblik liječenja na Klinici za psihijatriju Vrapče, od početka veljače do kraja travnja 2017. Korištena je Multidimenzionalna skala socijalne potpore (MSPSS). Najveću ocjenu opažene podrške imaju životni partneri (M = 5,72). Zanimljivo je da je najslabiji rezultat percepcije podrške od strane ispitanika postignut na subskali potpore koju su doživjeli od obitelj (M = 5). Nađena je negativna povezanost između percepcije socijalne podrške i dobi; podrška je negativno povezana s godinama. Stariji sudionici ocijenili su nižu razinu potpore od mlađih (-279 *, Pearsonov koeficijent korelacije). Ne postoje razlike ili značajne korelacije u percepciji socijalne podrške, spolu i obliku liječenja sudionika

    Current state of selective prevention practice of drug abuse in Croatia

    Drug use is a phenomenon which seriously disturbs the health and the ability to function socially and in a balanced manner for a large number of young people in Croatia who are at the most sensitive stage of their individual development (Petrović, 1983; as cited in Bouillet, 2007). The perspective of developmental psychopathology helps to create all-encompassing theoretical models that explain the development of problems related to drug abuse, identify the groups that have the highest risk and guide the creation of logical models for prevention programs. This paper offers a hypothesized model of development of addiction problems in adolescence from the perspective of developmental psychopathology and uses it as a tool to analyse the current state of selective prevention practice in Croatia. The national focal point for drugs and drug addiction is located within the Office for Combating Drug Abuse of the Government of the Republic of Croatia. This Office also runs a Database of projects and programs administered in the field of drug demand reduction. According to the database review performed by the authors on June 26th 2016, 57 selective prevention programs were identified that fit the criteria for being “selective” (according to the definition by Mrazek & Haggerty, 1994). Among these, 15 selective prevention programs were identified as matching the criteria of “program” used by the US Department of Health and Human Services (US DHHS, 2013a & 2013b). The suggested theoretical model was subsequently compared to the goals and activities of these programs

    Parent participation in the assessment of pupils’ need for socio-pedagogical intervention

    Cilj istraživanja koje je prikazano u ovom radu jest razviti mjerni instrument koji će omogućiti da se temeljem roditeljske procjene problema u ponašanju učenika identificiraju potrebe učenika za uključivanjem u socijalnopedagoške intervencije u osnovnoj školi. Radi se o Upitniku za procjenu potreba učenika za socijalnopedagoškim intervencijama - verzija za roditelje koji je konstruiran u sklopu projekta Razvoj modela socijalnopedagoških intervencija u osnovnoj školi Agencije za odgoj i obrazovanje. Istraživanje je provedeno na uzorku 2.865 roditelja učenika trećih, petih i sedmih razreda u 43 osnovne škole u Republici Hrvatskoj. U radu je prikazana procedura kreiranja konačne verzije upitnika koji ima zadovoljavajuće metrijske karakteristike (valjanost, objektivnost i pouzdanost). Faktorskom analizom je utvrđeno da upitnik mjeri: procjenu odnosa učenika prema obrazovanju, obavezama, vršnjacima, roditeljima, razredniku i materijalnoj dobiti, komunikativnost, mogućnost kontrole osjećaja i odgovornost u ponašanju učenika. Pokazalo se da Upitnik za procjenu potreba učenika za socijalnopedagoškim intervencijama - verzija za roditelje primjereno razlikuje učenike s problemima u ponašanju od ostalih učenika, pri čemu normiranje kategorija učenika ovisi o njihovom spolu i dobi. Također je ustanovljeno da prema procjenama roditelja u osnovnim školama 13% učenika ima probleme u ponašanju, što je podudarno procjenama dobivenima od strane samih učenika.The aim of the research presented in this paper is to develop the measurement instrument that will enable the identification of pupils’ needs for involvement in the socio-pedagogical intervention based on the assessments of their parents. We present the Pupils\u27 Needs in the Area of Social-pedagogic Intervention – Parents’ Version, which is being developed as part of the Development of models of social-pedagogic interventions in elementary schools project, funded by The Education and Teacher Training Agency. The study was conducted on a sample of 2865 parents of third-, fifth- and seventh-graders, from 43 Croatian elementary schools. This paper presents the process of developing the final version of the Questionnaire, which achieves satisfactory metric characteristics (reliability, validity and objectivity). Using factor analysis, we found that the Questionnaire measures the pupils’ assessment of attitudes towards their education, obligations, peers, parents, teachers and material gain, as well as communicativeness, emotion control and responsibility in the behavior of pupils. We show that the developed Pupils\u27 Needs in the Area of Social-pedagogic Intervention Questionnaire –Parent\u27s Version appropriately differentiates pupils with behavioral difficulties from other pupils, while forming categories based on the pupils’ gender and age. Moreover, we find that, based on parents’ assessments, 13% of pupils have behavioral difficulties, which is in line with the pupils’ self-assessments

    Sindrom sagorijevanja stručnjaka mentalnog zdravlja: psihijatrijska bolnica

    Burnout is frequently mentioned as a problem in the mental health field. As a type of prolonged response to chronic job-related stressors, has a special significance in health care where staff experience both psychological-emotional and physical stress. The aim of the paper was to determine the level of stress in professionals working in psychiatric hospital, as well as to explore possible differences in stress level regarding the different characteristic of participants as sex, level of education, marital status, working hours etc. The Burnout Clinical Subtypes Questionnaire was used. Study was conducted from July to December 2014, and from April to May 2015. The sample of 141 participants who work in mental health profession consists of 39.9% male and 68.1% female, average age of 38.98 years. Overall results show that participants have lower scores on all subscales. The results showed that there is moderate burnout experience in the sense that participants feel overload when they try to maximize their reward by taking on a volume and pace of work that become excessive. This questionnaire can be a very useful instrument for future evaluation and designing interventions and different treatment strategies for subtypes of burnout.Burnout (sagorijevanje) se često spominje kao pojava u području mentalnog zdravlja. Riječ je o prolongiranom odgovoru na kronične stresore vezane uz posao, te kao takav ima poseban značaj u zdravstvu gdje je emocionalni i fizički stres nerijetko iskustvo osoblja. Cilj rada je odrediti razinu stresa kod stručnjaka koji rade u psihijatrijskoj bolnici, kao i istražiti postoje li razlike u razini stresa obzirom na različite karakteristike sudionika kao što su spol, stupanj obrazovanja, bračni status, radno vrijeme itd. U radu je korišten Upitnik sagorijevanja na poslu sa kliničkim podtipovima (The Burnout Clinical Subtypes Questionnaire – BCSQ). Studija je provedena od srpnja do prosinca 2014., te od travnja do svibnja 2015. Uzorak čini 141 sudionik, stručnjaka u području zaštite mentalnog zdravlja, zaposlenih u psihijatrijskoj bolnici, 39.9% čine muškarci, a 68.1% žene, prosječne dobi 38. 8 godina. Ukupni rezultati pokazuju da sudionici imaju niže rezultate na svim subskalama. Rezultati su pokazali da postoji umjereno iskustvo sagorijevanja na poslu, na način da će sudionik osjećati preopterećenje kada pokušava povećati svoju naknadu radeći prekovremeno. Ovaj upitnik može biti vrlo koristan instrument za buduće procjene i programiranje intervencija, kao i za različite strategije liječenja pojedinih podtipova sagorijevanja na poslu

    Opportunities and Challenges of Qualitative Research in the Field of Mental Health

    Kvalitativna istraživanja pokazuju veliki potencijal unutar područja mentalnog zdravlja. Teme u mentalnom zdravlju iznimno su složene i multifaktorske te iziskuju uključenost miješanih metode (mixed methods) koje podrazumijevaju i kvalitativnu i kvantitativnu metodologiju. Specifičnost kvalitativne metodologije leži u mogućnosti uključivanja korisnika usluga u proces razvoja intervencija u području mentalnog zdravlja. Uporabom kvalitativne metodologije osiguravamo da su pitanja koja postavljamo pojedincima pitanja koja su za njih važna. U radu će biti prikazane neke mogućnosti uporabe kvalitativnih istraživanja u području mentalnog zdravlja, poput primjene istraživanja u razvoju i testiranju teorije, razvoju metoda s obzirom na specifičnost istraživanog područja, razvoju i testiranju intervencija i implementiranju intervencija u kliničku praksu. Prikazat ćemo i izazove s kojima se suočavaju kvalitativni istraživači koji se bave područjem mentalnog zdravlja poput pitanja koja se odnose na održavanje granica, razvijanje odnosa, razvijanje prijateljstva, refleksivnost, emocije i napuštanje uloge. Zbog svih prethodno navedenih izazova potrebno je izraditi univerzalne protokole i strategije koje bi osigurale da svi oni koji se bave kvalitativnim istraživanjima u mentalnom zdravlju imaju jednake informacije o mogućim rizicima, dostupnim resursima za pomoć i podršku i smjernicama za pojedine izazovne situacije prigodom provođenja istraživanja.Qualitative research shows great potential within the field of mental health. Mental health topics as such are extremely complex and multifactorial and require the involvement of mixed methods which include qualitative and quantitative methodology. The specificity of the qualitative methodology lies in the ability to include service users in the process of development of interventions in the field of mental health. By using a qualitative methodology, we ensure that the questions we ask the individuals represent important issues for them. In this paper we will present some of the possibilities of using qualitative research in the field of mental health, such as application of research in the development and testing of the theory, development of methods based on the specificity of the research area, development and testing of interventions and implementation of interventions in clinical practice. We will also present the challenges faced by qualitative researchers dealing with mental health issues such as issues related to maintaining boundaries, developing relationships, developing friendship, reflexivity, emotions, and abandoning the role. Due to all the above-mentioned challenges, it is necessary to develop universal protocols and strategies to ensure that all those involved in qualitative mental health research have equal information on possible risks, available help resources and guidance resources, and guidelines for particular challenging situations while conducting the research
