The territory that we have been studying (since 2007) is situated in the BistriţaVăratec Valley, a tributary of the Tismana River and it covers a surface of approximately 500 km2. According to the research carried out between 2007-2011, in the upper basin of the Bistriţa-Văratec, there were identified 4 plant communities, within alliance Cynosurion cristati Br.-Bl. et Tx. 1943: Anthoxantho-Agrostetum capillaris Sillinger 1933, Jurko 1969, Lolio-Cynosuretum Br.-Bl. 1936 em Tx. 1937 (Syn. Lolietum perennis Safta 1943), Festuco rubrae-Agrostetum capillaris Csűrös-Káptalan 1964 (Syn. Festucetum rubrae-Agrostietum capillaris Horv. 1951; Festuco rubrae-Cynosuretum auct. roman., Festucetum rubrae et Agrostis capillaris auct. roman. and Rumici (acetosellae)-Agrostietum tenuis Sanda et Popescu 1981 (Syn. Agrostetum tenuis biharicum Resmeriţă 1965, 1970). Ecology, chorology, floristic composition (species richness, life forms, phytogeographical elements) as well as its economic importance for all these plants communities (characterised by 40 original phytosociological relevées) are analysed in this paper

Problema pe care o abordăm în studiul nostru este suportul optim necesar cu scop de a obţine risc de complicaţii minim şi a ameliora calitatea vieţii la maxim posibil

Synthesis and Characterization of Coordination Compound [Eu(µ2-OC2H5)(btfa)(NO3)(phen)]2phen with High Luminescence Efficiency

A high-luminescent, blue-light excitable europium(III) coordination complex, [Eu(µ2-OC2H5)(btfa)(NO3)(phen)]2phen (1) {btfa = benzoyl trifluoroacetone, phen = 1,10-phenantroline}, has been synthesized and investigated. The complex was characterized by infrared (IR) and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The PL emission spectra of powder samples registered in a range of 10.7–300 K exhibit characteristic metal-centered luminescence bands, assigned to internal radiative transitions of the Eu3+ ion, 5D1→7Fj and 5D0→7Fj (j = 0–4). The high-resolution spectrum of the transition 5D0→7F0 shows that it consists of two narrow components, separated by 0.96 meV, which indicates the presence in the matrix of two different sites of the Eu3+ ion. The splitting pattern of 5D0→7Fj (j = 0–4) transitions indicates that europium ions are located in a low-symmetry environment. The absolute quantum yield and the sensitization efficiency were determined to be 49.2% and 89.3%, respectively. The complex can be excited with low-cost lasers at around 405 nm and is attractive for potential applications in optoelectronics and biochemistry

Grafting versus Crosslinking of Silk Fibroin-g-PNIPAM via Tyrosine-NIPAM Bridges

This paper reports the synthesis and complex characterization of novel polymeric networks based on the crosslinking of Bombyx mori silk fibroin via poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) bridges generated by an ammonium cerium nitrate redox system. The research study gives an understanding of the polymerization mechanism in terms of the generation of radical sites, radical growth and termination reaction, as well as the involvement of modifications on silk fibroin structure and properties. The physico-chemical characterization was carried out by FTIR-ATR, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and RAMAN spectroscopy with unravelling the chemical modification. The structural characterization and spatial arrangement by secondary structure were carried out by X-ray diffraction and circular dichroism. The thermal behavior and thermal stability were evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. The novel complex polymer network is intended to be used in the field of smart drug delivery systems

Original Contributions to the Chemical Composition, Microbicidal, Virulence-Arresting and Antibiotic-Enhancing Activity of Essential Oils from Four Coniferous Species

This study aimed to establish the essential oil (EO) composition from young shoots of Picea abies, Larix decidua, Pseudotsuga menziesii, and Pinus nigra harvested from Romania and evaluate their antimicrobial and anti-virulence activity, as well as potential synergies with currently used antibiotics. The samples’ EO average content varied between 0.62% and 1.02% (mL/100 g plant). The mono- and sesquiterpene hydrocarbons were dominant in the composition of the studied EOs. The antimicrobial activity revealed that the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values for the tested EOs and some pure compounds known for their antimicrobial activity ranged from 6.25 to 100 µL/mL. The most intensive antimicrobial effect was obtained for the Pinus nigra EO, which exhibited the best synergistic effect with some antibiotics against Staphylococcus aureus strains (i.e., oxacillin, tetracycline, erythromycin and gentamycin). The subinhibitory concentrations (sMIC) of the coniferous EOs inhibited the expression of soluble virulence factors (DN-ase, lipase, lecithinase, hemolysins, caseinase and siderophore-like), their efficiency being similar to that of the tested pure compounds, and inhibited the rhl gene expression in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, suggesting their virulence-arresting drug potential
