    Impact of Indian Demonetization on Working and Non-Working Married Women: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis

    The sudden announcement of demonetization in India caused an immediate financial crisis that cascaded throughout the whole country and consequently caused suffering in the lives of many people, one such group being married women. Therefore, the present study aimed to explore and understand how married women were impacted by the demonetization policy. A total of 20 working and non-working women were selected from New Delhi and a qualitative research design based on interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) was employed. The present study identified three themes (i.e., problems due to demonetization, coping with demonetization, and diverse experiences associated with hidden money) and ten subthemes in which it was evident that both working and non-working women were impacted by the demonetization policy. Participants were able to develop different coping strategies to deal with the crisis. Surprisingly, contrary to our expectations, none of the participants received any negative treatment from their husbands after knowing their hidden savings

    Effect of grafting time on graft success of walnut (Juglans regia) in zero energy polyhouses

    This study was carried out during three successive seasons (2009, 2010 and 2011) on walnut (Juglans regia L.) seedlings. Grafting was done by wedge methods on nine dates (5 January, 15 January, 25 January, 5 February, 15 February, 25 February, 5 March, 15 March and 25 March). The pooled data showed that, highest success percentage of grafting was obtained on 25 January and lowest was recorded on 25 March. The maximum number of shoots/scion and leaves/scion was observed on 25 January. The highest value for scion diameter (0.94cm) was found on seedlings grafted on 25 January while as lowest scion diameter of 0.45cm from grafts, grafted on 25 March. The highest proportion of salable plants was observed on 15 January and lowest proportion was found on 25 March. Our results also suggest that January grafting produces better bud-take, number of leaves and scion growth as compared with February and March grafting. Therefore, the best time for grafting is January under polyhouse conditions

    Hyponatremia is a common medical problem often found in the elderly and is due to poor intake, medical comorbidities, and medications. Central to the management of this condition is the use of normal and hypertonic saline, besides the use of supplementary salt in diet and limited water intake. However, correction has to be slow; this depends upon whether the patient has acute or chronic hyponatremia. Rapid correction produces a myriad of clinical manifestations, commonly called as osmotic demyelination syndrome. The demyelination is pyramidal in most instances; the basis pontis is usually the frequent location. Extrapyramidal demyelination occurs in 10% of cases. Here, we present a form of extrapyramidal demyelination (i.e. secondary parkinsonism) secondary to osmotic demyelination syndrome, which has rarely been reported in the literature

    Clinical profile in arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy and a recessive plakophilin-2 gene mutation

    Objective: Arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (ACM) is not an uncommon cause of cardiac morbidity in Kashmir valley. This study was designed to document various clinical features and to sequence exons 11 and 12 of plakophilin 2 (PKP2) gene in these patients. Methods: ACM patients who attended cardiology outpatient department of our institute from January 2014 to April 2015 were included in the study. Their records were reviewed. Controls were randomly selected, who had no history or family history of cardiac illness and had a normal cardiac examination. A blood sample was also taken from both the groups for sequencing of exon 11 and 12 of PKP2 gene. ACM patients were followed up until July 2016. Results: Eleven ACM patients and seven controls were included in the study. Most common mode of presentation was ventricular tachycardia (VT). Two patients had left ventricular (LV) systolic dysfunction. One patient had a splice site mutation in exon 12 of PKP2 gene and one patient died during follow-up. One of the controls had an intronic variation that has no pathogenic significance vis-à-vis ACM. Conclusion: Our study describes various clinical parameters in ACM patients and a recessive plakophilin 2 mutation after a limited PKP2 gene sequencing.
