Fidelity, Spirit, and Truth an Amalgam of Historical Translation and Contemporary Lexicography: A Scoping Review

    No full text
This scoping review studies the relationship of past translation studies to present-day lexicography. Different scholarly articles and journals about the two disciplines have been collated and meticulously studied in order to come up with a direct conclusion. It has been discovered that through the amalgamation of the articles and journals, cohesion and similarities were discovered. Translation has a strong historical background, and so is lexicography, but as the timeline between the two was separated, certain connections became vague. With the propensity for being equivocal, related articles were tediously read, and it has come to light that the relationship between translationā€™s history and present-day lexicography is indispensable. The derivatives of the studies that were utilized in this scoping review can definitely be of the essence to future studies and promote translation and lexicography's function in language learning. The two principles are both seen to be crucial and vital to the learning of language, thus making them strong foundations of vocabulary, meaning-making, and word adaptation and variation

    No full text
This systematic review discusses sociolinguistics as a crucial factor in the translation and analysis of texts. It mainly directs to synthesizing relevant studies and literature on Sociolinguistics as a crucial factor that affects the process of translation, translation studies, and analysis of texts. Sociolinguistics plays a vital role in the translation process. It defines what is adequate to be translated through selection, filtering, and even censorship. Problems in translation may occur when a text is translated without sufficient knowledge of the source languageā€™s cultural and social identity. However, since the cultural approach in translation has received criticisms previously, there is a call for more information that can contribute to the existing knowledge on how it still could be improved. Hence, this systematic review gathered and scrutinized recent and relevant studies from various databases that present translation using cultural lenses and paradigms as well as translation inconsistencies. The collected studies consist of qualitative and quantitative studies. This review reiterates Sociolinguistics as a fresh perspective and crucial factor in translation, including analysis of texts. The study's subjects include a variety of pragmatic factors that influence the essence of translation as a communicative process: the translator's ideologies and bias toward the target audience: the pragmatics of source Text and Translated Text language units, including the role of gender in translation which all correlate with social and situation stratification

    No full text
This scoping review studies the role of grammar in second language teaching and learning. This scoping review mainly directs to synthesizing relevant studies and literature on acquiring grammar and looking for strategies for achieving it. Grammar acquisition requires the subconscious mind of accepting grammatical knowledge that is then confined and used in communication. Its implicit nature makes it hard to conduct studies about it, and there is a need for more information that can help contribute to the existing knowledge about it. Hence, this scoping review gathered and scrutinized recent and relevant papers from various databases. The collected papers consist of qualitative and quantitative studies. Many language teachers agree that pedagogic grammar is crucial in second language acquisition. Hence, this paper analyzes recent and relevant papers about grammar acquisition. This scoping review found out that the importance of studies about grammar acquisition should not be forsaken; thus, more investigations must be done to contribute to the already existing knowledge. A byproduct of these studies can lead to better strategies for promoting grammar acquisition to language learners. Hence, the amelioration of Second Language Learning and Second Language Teaching is inevitable

Individual differences are considered one of the main factors in language learning. This article begins by presenting the definition of individual differences and identifying the possible individual differences that may affect the L2 learning process are. Based on the literature review, shows that there are eight (8) major individual differences to be found as salient features in the L2 learning process. A brief overview of these eight (8) individual differences is provided, supported by the literature review of 20 journal articles. This journal article used grounded theory design as a method in identifying the relationship of the following individual differences in the L2 learning process. According to the results, although there is a growth in the study of individual differences that affects the L2 learning process, there is still much work to be done and much more investigation is required
