Electronic properties of metal-induced gap states formed at alkali-halide/metal interfaces
The spatial distribution and site- distribution of metal induced gap states
(MIGS) are studied by thickness dependent near edge x-ray absorption fine
structure (NEXAFS) and comparing the cation and anion edge NEXAFS. The
thickness dependent NEXAFS shows that the decay length of MIGS depends on
rather an alkali halide than a metal, and it is larger for alkali halides with
smaller band gap energy. By comparing the Cl edge and K edge NEXAFS for
KCl/Cu(001), MIGS are found to be states localizing at anion sites.Comment: 4 pages, to be published in Phys. Rev.
Regional medical inter-institutional cooperation in medical provider network constructed using patient claims data from Japan
The aging world population requires a sustainable and high-quality healthcare system. To examine the efficiency of medical cooperation, medical provider and physician networks were constructed using patient claims data. Previous studies have shown that these networks contain information on medical cooperation. However, the usage patterns of multiple medical providers in a series of medical services have not been considered. In addition, these studies used only general network features to represent medical cooperation, but their expressive ability was low. To overcome these limitations, we analyzed the medical provider network to examine its overall contribution to the quality of healthcare provided by cooperation between medical providers in a series of medical services. This study focused on: i) the method of feature extraction from the network, ii) incorporation of the usage pattern of medical providers, and iii) expressive ability of the statistical model. Femoral neck fractures were selected as the target disease. To build the medical provider networks, we analyzed the patient claims data from a single prefecture in Japan between January 1, 2014 and December 31, 2019. We considered four types of models. Models 1 and 2 use node strength and linear regression, with Model 2 also incorporating patient age as an input. Models 3 and 4 use feature representation by node2vec with linear regression and regression tree ensemble, a machine learning method. The results showed that medical providers with higher levels of cooperation reduce the duration of hospital stay. The overall contribution of the medical cooperation to the duration of hospital stay extracted from the medical provider network using node2vec is approximately 20%, which is approximately 20 times higher than the model using strength
A discussion on the recognition of facial expression : On Bassili\u27s experiment
Bassili(1978)は顔の視覚的パタンから相貌の手掛りを取り除いた場合にも表清を識別できることを実験的に確かめた。この事実は,顔の形態的特質相互の間の高次の関係を視覚系が抽出して反応することを意味している。したがって,顔の相貌自体は,表清の識別にとっての十分条件ではあっても必要条件ではない。しかし,彼の実験では,その高次の関係がどのようなかたちで記述できるのかについて示唆するものではなかった。高次の関係がどのように記述できるかを推測するにあたっては,(1) 身体機構の運動特性の数学的構造についての知識と,(2) 頭蓋の成長における変形の数学的特質についての知識が参考になる。Bassili (1978) pointed that the observers could discriminate the actors\u27 facial expressions when familiar cues (facial features) were eliminated from their faces. Transformation of surface of the faces would be a visual stimuli so that the facial features are not a necessary information for recognizing faces. This fact suggests our visual systems extracting a higher order relation from moving faces. However the experiment did not specify the characteristics of the higher order relation, some thoughts on mathematical descriptions of (1) biomechanical invariants of bodily motion and of (2) transformational invariants in cranial development should be refered to explore them
[Material] Problems on Faculty Development in University Education
筆者はこの5年間に私大連が主催したファカルテイ・デベロプメントについてのワークショップに過去4回にわたって参加してきた。この報告は第2回集会(1996年)でのグループ討議「ファカルティ・デベロプメントの方法と課題」の要約である。討議の内容は(1)ファカルティ・デベロプメントとは何か(2)ファカルティ・デベロプメントの方法論(3)授業評価の問題点(4)カリキュラムの総合開発と改善(5)教授法の工夫および教育機器・学術情報の活用について(6)研究活動と教育実践の調和についてまとめられた。われわれの学部組織にとってもこれらの諸問題への包括的なかかわりが要請されていると考える。The author has attended workshops on faculty development which were held by the Japan Association of Private Colleges and Universities over the past five years. This article is a summary of the group discussions on the methods and problems of faculty development at the 2nd workshop in 1996.Subjects discussed were-(1) What is faculty development?(2) What are the methodologies for faculty development?(3) Problems on classwork assessment.(4) Integrative creation and renewal in curriculum.(5) How to create teaching techniques, instrumental devises and utilizing academic informations.(6) How to keep a balance between teaching and research activities.Intensive discussion of these problems is necessary in our faculty
A review on human face asymmetries
初期の研究において,Wolff (1933)は顔の形質的な左右非対称と性格との間に相関があると主張したが,その後の追試はそれを階認していない。顔の表出活動に見られる左右非対称が研究された。情緒質との関係,表出の意図性との関係,表出者の利き手との関係,観察者の利き手との関係等が確かめられようとしたが,結果は多岐にわたっている。知覚者の視野の半側の機能のバイアスが研究された。一般に,アナリティックな処理が要求される顔パタン認知の手続きにおいては左半側視野(LVF)の優位が認められるが,優位側の決定は当該実験場面の手続きの細部に依存する偶発的な性格のものであるらしい。この問題については,視野分割提示法による実験結果と関連させて吟味する必要がある。顔の形質,表出,認知,半球機能の非対称に関する文献を末尾に一覧した。In earlier research Wolff(1933) assumed a positive relation between personality and morphological asymmetry in the face, but the assumption was not confirmed by other researchers who followed him. Asymmetries in facial expressions were examined in relation to feelings, intentionality in expression, the right or left handedness of subjects, and so on, and the results were miscellaneous. Hemifield bias has been another problem. Left visual field(LVF) advantages have been generally found in the perceptual tasks where analytic processings of faces are required. However decisions concerning the advantageous side of the field are thought to be an incidental matter which depends on various critical procedures in the experiment. Thus the problem should be studied through experiments employing the bisecting method. Articles on these areas, including morphological, cognitive, and hemispherical asymmtries in human face perception are appended.橋本真教授退職記念
A survey of small-sized Shoki statues on the roof of houses in the central region of Kyoto City
Several houses in the west area of Japan have a small-sized Shoki statue on their roof. The present study found 401 such statues in the central region of Kyoto City. Figure 1 shows the region covered in the present study. We have divided it into 6 divisions. Figure 2 shows the limits of the divisions in the prescribed region. Tables 1–1~1–6 catalogues all the pictures of statues found in each division. In the tables bold-face typed figures represent the one\u27s individual number of each picture, and light-faced typed figures are the IDs of them (=serial photo numbers).Figures 3–1~3–6 shows the locations of statues in corresponding division in the region. Pictures of all statues in the region have been presented at the end part of the report.西日本の広い範囲において住居の屋根の上に置かれた小さな鍾馗像を観察することができる。本調査では京都市中心域の町家の鍾馗像を撮影して401個の画像を得た。図1に調査対象区域を示し、図2に調査対象区域を分割した6領域(X-I~Z-II)の区分と、区域全体の中で観察された全鍾馗像の位置を示した。第1表(その1~その6)は分割領域ごとに整理した画像の整理番号と画像IDの記録台帳である。図3(3-1~3-6)は分割した領域ごとの画像の位置と整理番号、画像IDの表示である。104ページから126ページにすべての画像を一覧した
