    Detection of Spin Correlations in Optical Lattices by Light Scattering

    We show that spin correlations of atoms in an optical lattice can be reconstructed by coupling the system to the light, and by measuring correlations between the emitted photons. This principle is the basis for a method to characterize states in quantum computation and simulation with optical lattices. As examples, we study the detection of spin correlations in a quantum magnetic phase, and the characterization of cluster states

    Superfluid–Mott insulator transition and Bose–Einstein Condensation of phonons in ion traps

    We show that transverse phonons in a set of trapped ions under the action of lasers are described by a Bose-Hubbard model whose parameters can be externally adjusted. The hopping of the phonons between different phonons is provided by the Coulomb interaction. On the other hand, the nonlinear terms in the interaction of the ions with a standing-wave provide us with the phonon-phonon interaction. We investigate the possibility of observing several quantum many-body phenomena, including (quasi) Bose-Einstein Condensation as well as a superfluid-Mott insulator quantum phase transition

    Status report of the n_TOF facility after the 2nd CERN long shutdown period

    During the second long shutdown period of the CERN accelerator complex (LS2, 2019-2021), several upgrade activities took place at the n_TOF facility. The most important have been the replacement of the spallation target with a next generation nitrogen-cooled lead target. Additionally, a new experimental area, at a very short distance from the target assembly (the NEAR Station) was established. In this paper, the core commissioning actions of the new installations are described. The improvement in the n_TOF infrastructure was accompanied by several detector development projects. All these upgrade actions are discussed, focusing mostly on the future perspectives of the n_TOF facility. Furthermore, some indicative current and future measurements are briefly reported

    Quantum processing photonic states in optical lattices

    The mapping of photonic states to collective excitations of atomic ensembles is a powerful tool which finds a useful application in the realization of quantum memories and quantum repeaters. In this work we show that cold atoms in optical lattices can be used to perform an entangling unitary operation on the transferred atomic excitations. After the release of the quantum atomic state, our protocol results in a deterministic two qubit gate for photons. The proposed scheme is feasible with current experimental techniques and robust against the dominant sources of noise.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

    Matter--wave emission in optical lattices: Single particle and collective effects

    We introduce a simple set--up corresponding to the matter-wave analogue of impurity atoms embedded in an infinite photonic crystal and interacting with the radiation field. Atoms in a given internal level are trapped in an optical lattice, and play the role of the impurities. Atoms in an untrapped level play the role of the radiation field. The interaction is mediated by means of lasers that couple those levels. By tuning the lasers parameters, it is possible to drive the system through different regimes, and observe phenomena like matter wave superradiance, non-Markovian atom emission, and the appearance of bound atomic states.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

    Open innovation factors for higher education institutions

    Open innovation is a fundamental strategy in all institutions of higher education which allows them to achieve the goals and mission objectives, having as one of its essential purposes the generation and transfer of knowledge which is sup-ported and achieved by research groups and seedbeds generating innovation and development products of great impact, however, are not always incorporated to meet any requirement or provide solutions in society or in the productive sector among others. The article presents factors of open innovation, which must be analyzed, developed or strengthened within the institutions, therefore, while innovation has an important role, the application and adaptation requires disci-pline and integration with the organizational culture. The article identifies and describes the various components needed to incorporate open innovation in higher education institutionsLa innovación abierta es una estrategia fundamental en todas las instituciones de educación superior que les permite alcanzar las metas y objetivos de la misión, teniendo como uno de sus propósitos esenciales la generación y transferencia de conocimiento el cual es apoyado y logrado por grupos de investigación y semilleros generadores de innovación. y productos de desarrollo de gran impacto, sin embargo, no siempre se incorporan para atender algún requerimiento o brindar soluciones en la sociedad o en el sector productivo entre otros. El texto recorre los rasgos principales del Análisis de Redes Sociales, concebido como un enfoque analítico promisorio que nos permite aprehender la lógica organizativa emergente.L’article affirme que la révolution technologique de l’information affecte tous les domaines de la réalité sociale, de même que les deux autres grandes révolutions technologiques – celle de la vapeur et celle de l’électricité – qui marquèrent l’histoire contemporaine. Nous sommes aujourd’hui témoins de l’émergence d’une nouvelle société civile qui déborde les frontières de l’Etat-nation et fonctionne en unité de temps réel et à l’échelle globale.     Internet y Comunidad: Una aproximación desde el enfoque del estudio de redes personales

    El propósito de este artículo es esencialmente aportar a la renovación metodológica en el campo de la investigación social. En concreto, se buscar presentar y fundamentar sobre las potencialidades del uso del estudio de las redes personales a partir de la aplicación de conceptos, métodos y técnicas propios del enfoque del Análisis de Redes Sociales (ARS). El método será desafiado como herramienta para abordar uno de los temas recurrentes en los debates sociológicos, la contigüidad espacial para la construcción de la comunidad. En concreto, nuestro soporte contextual será el aprendizaje obtenido a partir de la aplicación de este método en la investigación realizada para evaluar el impacto de Internet en la formación de capital individual y colectivo en un conjunto seleccionado de localidades de la Patagonia chilena caracterizadas por sus niveles críticos de aislamiento.The aim of this paper is to make a contribution to the renewal of social research. Specifically, we seek to provide a state-of-the-art about the personal networks studies from the application of concepts, methods and techniques of Social Network Analysis (SNA). The method will be challenged as tool to approach one of the most relevant issues of modern sociology, the spatial conditions for community building. The framework support will be the learning obtained from the application of this method in the research undertook to evaluate the impact of Internet in the individual and collective social capital formation in a selected group of Chilean Patagonia´s locality, characterized by its critic levels of isolation.O objetivo deste artigo é, essencialmente, contribuir para a renovação metodológica no campo da pesquisa social. Concretamente, se procura apresentar fundamentar o potencial do uso do estudo das redes pessoais a partir da aplicação de conceitos, métodos e técnicas próprios do enfoque da Análise de Redes Sociais (ARS). O método será desafiado como uma ferramenta para abordar um dos temas recorrentes em debates sociológicos, a contiguidade espacial para a construção da comunidade.     During the year 2020 and the current 2021, the pandemic caused by the COVID-19 has caused restrictions of mobility of individuals on a global scale. Nevertheless, shareholder’s annual meeting could not stop their activity and, thus, corporations celebrated their shareholders meeting virtually. The legislator aware of the new reality has promulgated the Law 5/2021 to make a coherence regulatory system. In this work we will study the identification problems in the general annual meetings during the 2020, we will determine the relevant aspects of applicable legal regime, we will analyze the current legislation and we will make a future proposal, both legislative and technologic, to enhance shareholders and proxies identification in the annual shareholders meeting.Este trabajo ha obtenido un accésit del Premio «Estudios Financieros» 2021 en la modalidad de Derecho Civil y Mercantil. Durante el año 2020 y el vigente 2021, las restricciones de movilidad a causa de la pandemia de la covid-19 han provocado paralizaciones en la circulación de personas a escala mundial. Sin embargo, las reuniones de los socios no podían detener su actividad y, por tanto, las sociedades se han reinventado celebrando la junta virtualmente. El legislador, consciente de la nueva realidad societaria, ha promulgado la Ley 5/2021, modificando e incluyendo preceptos sobre la junta virtual para dar coherencia al sistema regulatorio. En este trabajo estudiaremos los problemas de identificación que han surgido en las juntas generales a lo largo del 2020, determinaremos con claridad los aspectos relevantes del régimen jurídico aplicable, analizaremos el régimen vigente y realizaremos una propuesta de futuro, tanto legislativa como tecnológica, para una mejor identificación del socio o su representante en las juntas virtuales
