Numerical Investigation on Flow Separation Control of Low Reynolds Number Sinusoidal Aerofoils

    Get PDF
The paper presents a computational analysis of the characteristics of a NACA 634- 021 aerofoil incorporated with sinusoidal leading-edge protuberances at Re = 14,000. The protuberances are characterized by an amplitude and wavelength of 12% and 50% of the aerofoil chord length respectively. An unsteady Reynolds Average Navier Stokes (RANS) analysis of the full-span aerofoils was carried out using Transition SST (Shear Stress Transport) turbulence model across five different angles-of-attack (AOA). Comparisons with previous experimental results reported good qualitative agreements in terms of flow separation when the aerofoils are pitched at higher AOAs. Results presented here comprised of near-wall flow visualizations of the flow separation bubble at the peaks and troughs of the protuberances. Additionally, results indicate that the aerofoil with leading-edge protuberances displayed distinctive wall shear streamline and iso-contour characteristics at different span-wise positions. This implies that even at a low Reynolds number, implementations of these leading-edge protuberances could have positive or adverse effects on flow separation

CP-odd Phase Correlations and Electric Dipole Moments

We revisit the constraints imposed by electric dipole moments (EDMs) of nucleons and heavy atoms on new CP-violating sources within supersymmetric theories. We point out that certain two-loop renormalization group corrections induce significant mixing between the basis-invariant CP-odd phases. In the framework of the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model (CMSSM), the CP-odd invariant related to the soft trilinear A-phase at the GUT scale, theta_A, induces non-trivial and distinct CP-odd phases for the three gaugino masses at the weak scale. The latter give one-loop contributions to EDMs enhanced by tan beta, and can provide the dominant contribution to the electron EDM induced by theta_A. We perform a detailed analysis of the EDM constraints within the CMSSM, exhibiting the reach, in terms of sparticle spectra, which may be obtained assuming generic phases, as well as the limits on the CP-odd phases for some specific parameter points where detailed phenomenological studies are available. We also illustrate how this reach will expand with results from the next generation of experiments which are currently in development.Comment: 31 pages, 21 eps figures; v2: additional remarks on 2-loop threshold corrections and references added; v3: typos corrected, to appear in Phys. In the context of the Arab Israeli conflict, the Palestinian Intifada of 1987, commonly referred to as the Intifada of Stones, bears significant weight. In this study, an investigation into the representation of the event in Contemporary Arabic poetry is carried out. This research is an in-depth examination of Nizar Qabbanis Children of the Stones trilogy. From this, the researcher draws Qabbanis thoughts on the Intifada and the children of the Intifada who were pushed into adulthood too soon. Qabbani classified Intifada Children into four groups that overlap in typical activities, skills, and responsibilities. The four types of children are those who are admired, those who are men, those who are teachers, and those who are soldiers (i.e., militarized). Qabbani identified a new generation of children who he believed offered hope for the restoration of our countrys rights. He contrasted these children with what he referred to as the generations of defeat and setbacks. Qabbani saw these children as heroes who wrote a new chapter in their nations history by resisting tanks and planes with only stones. They embodied tenacity, passion, and optimism

Effects of CP Violation on Event Rates in the Direct Detection of Dark Matter

A full analytic analysis of the effects of CP violating phases on the event rates in the direct detection of dark matter in the scattering of neutralinos from nuclear targets is given. The analysis includes CP violating phases in softly broken supersymmetry in the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) when generational mixings are ignored. A numerical analysis shows that large CP violating phases including the constraints from the experimental limits on the neutron and the electron electric dipole moment (EDM) can produce substantial effects on the event rates in dark matter detectors.Comment: 17 pages, LaTex, including 2 figures; revised version to appear in the Physical Review

One of the factors that influence national rice production instability is an attack of tungro disease that can lead to decreased production by up to 90% even if attacking in the vegetative period can cause crop failure. To reduce tungro disease in the field can be by using resistant varieties which are the most effective components in tungro control.Advanced yield trial is one step toprocess of producing tungro resistant varieties. This research aimed to identify the results of tungro resistant strains that have higher phenotypic character and yield potential than other tungro resistant varieties. The research was conducted at Tungro Disease Research Station, Lanrang Sidrap from December 2017 - March 2018 using a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD). were tentungro resistant lines and check varieties i.e Inpari 7 Lanrang and Ciherang and it was repeated 3 times. Data were analyzed using the F test and tested for significance with the Least Significant Difference (BNT). Correlation test was conducted between growth components, yield components and yields. The results showed that the lines tested had different >performances on the growth component, yield component and yield. There are three lines, namely BP12280-3f-7-Kn-2-1*B-Lrg-1-1-10-9, BP12206f-8-3-2*B-LR-20-4 and BP12280-3f-7-Kn-2-1*B-Lrg-1-16-14 which produced the highest productivity, which was supported by the number of filled grain per panicle and the number of panicles per clump.Flowering age 50%, number of panicles and number of filled grains were positively correlated with grain yield.

Evaluation of Skew-planar Antenna for UAV Communication at 2.4 GHz Band

    Get PDF
Skew-planar antenna is suitable for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) since it has circular polarization (avoiding polarization-mismatched), omnidirectional radiation pattern (low pointing loss) thus comply with maneuver angles of UAV, and also small size. Investigation with electromagnetic simulations shows that tilt angle and coaxial length are the most sensitive parameters. Modified design with 55° tilt angle (original design: 45°) and 100 mm coaxial length (original: 60 mm) potentially provides wider bandwidth (400 MHz vs. 290 MHz), better impedance-matched (|S11|: -47.1 dB vs. -13.6 dB), and better gain (1.98 dBi vs 1.61 dBi). The antenna is predicted capable to support service distance of 3 km in 2.4 GHz band if used with communication module with 18 dBm transmit power and -100 dBm receiver sensitivity. Therefore, the modified antenna is suitable to be applied in UAV

Labeling of Tannic Acid with Technetium-99m for Diagnosis of Stomach Ulcer

    Get PDF
Tannic acid is a polyphenolic compound that could be labeled with technetium-99m. To produce about 90% yield of  99mTc-tannic acid in acidic media (pH), the conditions required were 150 μg tin chloride, 30 min reaction time, and 200 μg of the substrate. 99mTc-tannic was stable for 6 h. Oral biodistribution of 99mTc-tannic showed that it concentrated in the stomach ulcer to reach about 50% of the total injected dose at 1 h after orall administration. This concentration of 99mTc-tannic in stomach ulcer may be sufficient to radio-image the presence of ulcer in the stomach

    Get PDF
This paper examines the level of mining activities impairment on underground water quality. Five samples were obtained three (3) from bore hole waste, one from open well and one from nearby stream. The samples obtained were analyzed based on Physical, Biological and Chemical Parameters. The result shows most of high concentration of chemical elements impairing on water quality as a result of mining activities such as Nitrate, Chloride, Phosphate, Cyanide, Fluoride, Iron, Manganese etc. Additionally the bacteriological analysis of these water samples revealed the concentration off e coli bacteria in the most boreholes, well, and the stream. The paper concluded that even though borehole were provided to augment the water supply for communities consumption but consideration was not given to streams where waste water from the mining site are normally drained into because it is use by plant and animals. There is therefore the need to treat the water before discharge into the stream. Keywords: Contamination, Mining, Parameters, Samples, Underground water
