Theorems on ground-state phase transitions in Kohn-Sham models given by the Coulomb density functional
Some theorems on derivatives of the Coulomb density functional with respect
to the coupling constant are given. Consider an electron density
given by a ground state. A model Fermion system with the
reduced coupling constant, , is defined to reproduce and the ground state energy. Fixing the charge density, possible phase
transitions as level crossings detected in a value of the reduced density
functional happen only at discrete points along the axis. If the
density is -representable also for , accumulation of phase
transition points is forbidden when . Relevance of the
theorems for the multi-reference density functional theory is discussed.Comment: 19 page
Susceptibility of tenascin to degradation by matrix metalloproteinases and serine proteinases
AbstractThe degradation of tenascin purified from human melanoma cells was examined by treatment with matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and serine proteinases. Among eight different types of proteinases examined, MMP-1, -3, and -7, cathepsin G and leukocyte elastase could digest tenascin, but MMP-2, MMP-9 and thrombin did not. This suggests that tenascin may be readily catabolized by extracellular matrix-degrading proteinases found in the pathophysiological conditions
Orbital mixture effect on the Fermi-surface-Tc correlation in the cuprate superconductors: Bilayer vs. single layer
By constructing dx2-y2-dz2 two-orbital models from first principles, we have obtained a systematic correlation between the Fermi surface warping and theoretically evaluated Tc for various bilayer as well as single-layer cuprates. This reveals that a smaller mixture of the dz2 orbital component on the Fermi surface leads simultaneously to larger Fermi-surface warping and higher Tc. The theoretical correlation strikingly resembles a systematic plot for the experimentally observed Tc against the Fermi surface warping due to Pavarini et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 87, 047003 (2001)], and the present result unambiguously indicates that the dz2 mixture is one key factor that determines Tc in the cuprates
Substrate Specificity of α-L-Arabinofuranosidase from Streptomyces diastatochromogenes 065 toward Arabinose-Containing Oligosaccharides
α-L-Arabinofuranosidase from Streptomyces diastatochromogenes 065 released only the terminal arabinose of arabinoxylo-oligosaccharides. The enzyme hydrolyzed methyl arabinofuranobiosides to arabinose and methyl arabinofuranoside in the order of (1→2)>(1→3)>(1→5)-linkages. The enzyme preferentially hydrolyzed the (1→3)-linkage over the (1→5)-linkage of methyl arabinofuranotrioside
Induction of β-1, 3-Glucanase System from Streptomyces sp. W 19-1
Streptomyces sp. W19-1 produced both β-1, 3-glucanase and β-glucosidase using curdlan as a carbon source. To investigate the induction of the curdlan-degrading enzyme system from Streptomyces sp. W19-1, some polysaccharides containing β-1, 3-linkage and β-glucobioses were used. The better inducers of β-1, 3-glucanase were found to be curdlan, laminarin, soluble laminaran and sophorose. Streptomyces β-glucosidase was well induced by sophorose, gentiobiose and several polysaccharides. Sophorose was found to be better inducer of Streptomyces β-1, 3-glucanase system
Association of skipping breakfast and short sleep duration with the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in the general Japanese population : Baseline data from the Japan Multi-Institutional Collaborative cohort study
The purpose of the study was to investigate sex-specific associations of skipping breakfast and short sleep duration with metabolic syndrome (MetS) and their interaction. We analyzed baseline data of 14,907 men and 14,873 women aged 35–69 years, who participated in the Japan Multi-Institutional Collaborative Cohort Study from 2005. MetS was diagnosed using a modification of the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III revised definition (NCEP-R 2005), using body mass index instead of waist circumference. Breakfast consumption was classified into two categories: ≥6 days/week (consumers) or <6 days/week (skippers). Sleep duration was classified into three categories: <6h, 6 to <8 h, and ≥8 h/day. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95 % confidence intervals (CIs) and examine the presence of interaction. In men, skipping breakfast and short sleep duration were independently associated with an increased prevalence of MetS (OR 1.26, 95%CI 1.12–1.42 and OR 1.28, 95%CI 1.12–1.45, respectively), obesity, and components of MetS. However, no significant interaction was observed between skipping breakfast and short sleep duration. In women, skipping breakfast and short sleep duration were associated with an increased prevalence of obesity, but not with MetS. These findings indicate that breakfast consumption and moderate sleep duration may be associated with a lower risk of MetS, particularly in men
Synthesis of ρ-Nitrophenyl β-D-Gentiobioside by Streptomyces β-Glucosidase
Streptomyces β-glucosidase was found to catalyze the transglucosylation from ρ-nitro-phenyl β-D-glucoside (PNPG). A main product formed was purified by HP-20 column chromatogrphy follwing to TOYOPEARL HW-40F column chromatography. The transfer product obtained was identified as ρ-nitrophenyl β-D-gentiobioside (PNPGen) with the enzymatic and acid hydrolysis, and methylation analysis. This result was supported by MS and ^C-NMR
