The article considers issues of therapeutic tactics for virus infections of children. The authors explain the essence of changes, which take place in the immune system of body under this pathology. The article describes immuno pathogenesis of acute enteric infections and the effect of lactoprobiotics on immuno-competent cells. The findings prove the advisability of applying this group of medications for a complex therapy of children with acute diarrhea disturbance.Key words: acute enteric infections, immuno-pathogenesis, treatment, lacto probiotics, children

OPPORTUNITIES TO USE THE LACTOCONTAINING PROBIOTICS IN CHILDREN PRACTICES
The article characterizes the modern approach to the lacto containing probiotics application in the clinical practices. The authors clarify the mechanisms of the functional activity of the lacto bacteria, l. reuteri inclusive. Acute, recurrent and repeat respiratory infections in children: the issues of immunoprophylaxis and immunotherapy

The article is focused on the issues of immunoprophylaxis and immunotherapy of acute, recurrent and repeat respiratory infections in children. The authors underscore the high efficacy of active specific immunoprophylaxis against influenza virus, pneumococcal and Hib-infections. They emphasize that the use of combined immunoprophylaxis (vaccine + non-specific immunoprophylactic agents) is effective for achieving the maximal preventive effect, especially in children with recurrent and repeat respiratory infections. The article elucidates such issues as the mode of action and the efficacy of therapy and prevention, as well as the tolerability and safety of topical bacterial lysates in pediatric practice. It also reviews the pathogenetic rationale of using topical bacterial lysate IRS 19 in the prevention and treatment of acute, recurrent and repeat respiratory infections in children. The authors highlight the beneficial therapeutic effects of topical bacterial lysate Imudon on the clinical course of infectious and inflammatory oropharyngeal diseases and its preventive action. The authors outline the good tolerability of topical bacterial lysates used in pediatric practice. Taking into consideration that achievement of the most effective prevention of acute respiratory infections (ARI) in children with recurrent and repeat respiratory infections is possible via combination of immunizations, whereas topical bacterial lysates can be applied successfully as non-specific immunoprophylactic agents.

Iron deficiencies: focus on teenage girls

Aim: to improve the efficacy of iron deficiency treatment in teenage girls by their early diagnosis and rational treatment.
Patients and Methods: complete blood count was performed in 2,303 teenage schoolgirls aged 14–17 years (mean age 16.3±0.6 years) who underwent routine annual medical examination. Whole capillary blood was tested. Reduced hemoglobin concentration (less than 120 g/l) was anemia diagnostic criterion in teenage girls. Hypochromic anemia was verified in color index less than 0.85 and mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) less than 26 pg. In some girls (n=133) with verified isolated hypochromic red blood cells but in the lack of anemia and microcytosis, serum iron, total iron-binding capacity, serum ferritin, and transferrin saturation were measured.
Results: hypochromic anemia was diagnosed in 8.3% of teenage girls. In 96.8% of them, anemia was mild. In 133 teenage girls with verified hypochromic red blood cells but no anemia, latent iron deficiency was diagnosed in 20.3% of cases. Preliminary results of mild iron-deficiency anemia treatment in 19 teenage girls (mean age 14.7±0.5 years) using Tardyferon demonstrate its good tolerability and high clinical laboratory efficacy. After 4 weeks of the treatment, hemoglobin concentration has increased by 10.7±0.3 g/l (р<0.05). No adverse side effects were reported.
Conclusions: our findings demonstrate that the algorithm described in this paper should be followed to improve the diagnosis of iron deficiencies.
