Nonequilibrium electron spin polarization in a double quantum dot. Lande mechanism

In moderately strong magnetic fields, the difference in Lande g-factors in each of the dots of a coupled double quantum dot device may induce oscillations between singlet and triplet states of the entangled electron pair and lead to a nonequilibrium electron spin polarization. We will show that this polarization may partially survive the rapid inhomogeneous decoherence due to random nuclear magnetic fields.Comment: New version contains figures. Time evolution of spin state of radical ion pair in microwave field: An analytical solution

The paper reports an exact solution for the problem of spin evolution of radical ion pair in static magnetic and resonant microwave field taking into account Zeeman and hyperfine interactions and spin relaxation. The values of parameters that provide one of the four possible types of solution are analysed. It is demonstrated that in the absence of spin relaxation, besides the zero field invariant an invariant at large amplitudes of the resonant microwave field can be found. The two invariants open the possibility for simple calculation of microwave pulses to control quantum state of the radical pair. The effect of relaxation on the invariants is analysed and it is shown that changes in the high field invariant are induced by phase relaxation.Comment: 18 pages, 7 figure

    Knight shift in superconducting vanadium

    Get PDF
The Knight shift in metallic vanadium in the normal and superconducting states has been measured. In contrast to the previously obtained results, this shift appears to change after the transition to the superconducting state. The behavior of the Knight shift in the superconducting state in vanadium samples doped with iron impurities has been found to be different from that in the "pure" samples. As a possible explanation of the effect, the broadening of the peak of the density of states near the Fermi level due to the scattering of conduction electrons on the iron impurities and the earlier predicted impurity polarization shift of the NMR line are discussed. © 2008 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd

Experimental observation of the spin screening effect in superconductor/ferromagnet thin film heterostructures

When studying the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) of 51V nuclei in superconductor/ferromagnet thin film heterostructures, anomalous behavior of the NMR signal was observed. This effect was manifested as a systematic distortion of the high-field wing of the resonance line. We consider this to be the first experimental evidence for penetration of ferromagnetism into a superconductor. © 2010 Allerton Press, Inc

Experimental Observation of the Inverse Proximity Effect in Superconductor/Ferromagnet Layered Structures

We have studied the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) of 51V nuclei in the superconductor/ferromagnet thin film heterostructures Ni/V/Ni and Pd{1-x}Fe{x}/V/Pd{1-x}Fe{x} in the normaland superconducting state. Whereas the position and shape of the NMR line in the normal state for the trilayers is identical to that observed in a single V-layer, in the superconducting state the line shape definitely changes, developing a systematic distortion of the high-field wing of the resonance line. We consider this as the first experimental evidence for the penetration of ferromagnetism into the superconducting layer, a phenomenon which has been theoretically predicted recently and dubbed the inverse proximity effect.Comment: about 5 pages, 3 figures, 1 tabl

EFFECTIVENESS OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS ON EARLY DIAGNOSIS OF ANKYLOSING SPONDYLITIS FOR PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIANS IN KAZAN

The diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis (AS) in the real-life practice is delayed for 7–8 years on average. Educational programs for primary care physicians may promote the disease diagnosis. Objective. To analyze the effectiveness of the educational programs for the early diagnosis of AS for primary contact physicians in the real-life clinical practice in Kazan. Material and methods. The development of the educational programs and determination of their effectiveness com- prised three stages: 1) determination of the level of knowledge and problems in the diagnosis and treatment of AS among primary care physicians and neurologists; 2) development of educational programs suitable to be used in the real-life clinical practice; 3) analysis of the effectiveness of implementing the programs according to the reports on work of the City Rheumatology Center in 2009–2011. Results. After running the courses, the number of patients with AS at the Kazan City Rheumatology Center increased almost twofold, from 378 in 2009 to 683 in 2011; the period from the onset of the disease to diagnosis was simultane- ously reduced from 8.4 to 3.5 years. Conclusion. The educational programs for primary care physicians and neurologists in Kazan have promoted shorten- ing of the AS diagnosis time

Debye temperature in YBa2Cu3Ox as measured from the electron spin-lattice relaxation of doped Yb3+ ions

    Get PDF
The electron spin-lattice relaxation (SLR) times T1 of Yb3+ ions were measured from the temperature dependence of electron spin resonance line width in Y0.99Yb0.01Ba2Cu3Ox with different oxygen contents. Raman relaxation processes dominate the electron SLR. Derived from the temperature dependence of the SLR rate, the Debye temperature (ΘD) increases with the critical temperature Tc and oxygen content x. This relationship between Tc and ΘD can be well understood in terms of the modified Bardeen-Cooper-Schriefer theory of phonon mechanism for a strong electron-phonon coupling

Magnetic properties of the spin-1 chain compound NiCl3_3C6_6H5_5CH2_2CH2_2NH3_3

We report experimental results of the static magnetization, ESR and NMR spectroscopic measurements of the Ni-hybrid compound NiCl3_3C6_6H5_5CH2_2CH2_2NH3_3. In this material NiCl3_3 octahedra are structurally arranged in chains along the crystallographic aa-axis. According to the static susceptibility and ESR data Ni2+^{2+} spins S=1S = 1 are isotropic and are coupled antiferromagnetically (AFM) along the chain with the exchange constant J=25.5J = 25.5 K. These are important prerequisites for the realization of the so-called Haldane spin-1 chain with the spin-singlet ground state and a quantum spin gap. However, experimental results evidence AFM order at TN10T_{\rm N} \approx 10 K presumably due to small interchain couplings. Interestingly, frequency-, magnetic field-, and temperature-dependent ESR measurements, as well as the NMR data, reveal signatures which could presumably indicate an inhomogeneous ground state of co-existent mesoscopically spatially separated AFM ordered and spin-singlet state regions similar to the situation observed before in some spin-diluted Haldane magnets
