Optical Monitoring in Elaboration of Metal Matrix Composites by Direct Metal Deposition
AbstractDevelopment of composites with multi-functional properties is a challenging problem that could be solved by laser cladding. The objective of the present work is to demonstrate the advantages of optical monitoring in optimizing deposition of carbide-reinforced metal matrix composites. Multi-wavelength pyrometer and infrared camera are applied to analyse high temperature heat β and mass transfer in the cladding zone. The influence of laser power, laser cladding speed and powder feeding rate on the brightness temperature are studied. The thermal images of the molten pool obtained by infrared camera for different TiC contents in the powder blend are analysed as well as the beads geometry, microstructure and microhardness
Harnessing the capabilities of spray granulation in the food industry for the production of functional foods
The article is the literature review of a current state of production technologies of powdery foodstuff, concentrates and multicomponent mixes. The need of the food industry for qualitative methods of processing of raw materials of different physical and chemical structure is noted. The authors give the reasons about need and possibility of a choice of granulation as a method of data processing of products. Physical and chemical features of granulation methods of disperse environments of various aggregate states based on the studied regularities and works of other authors are considered. The authors made the assumption of the application prospects of the method of liquid dispersion on the surface of particles in a suspended state for a granulation of foodstuff and they offered the alternative option. The possibility to use whey as binding element is considered. At the end of article authors draw the conclusion about the prospects of use of a method of dispersion of liquid on the surface of particles in a suspended state for a granulation of foodstuff
The Climatology of Blocking Anticyclones for the Northern and Southern Hemispheres: Block Intensity as a Diagnostic
A 30-yr climatology of blocking events was compiled by stratifying the data into seasonal and three regional categories for both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres using the NCEP-NCAR reanalyses. Several characteristics of blocking anticyclones were included in the study and these were frequency of occurrence, preferred formation regions, duration, blocking days, and intensity. The block intensity (BI) calculation was modified successfully from a previous study in order to automate the procedure for use with large datasets, and it is applied for the first time to derive a long-term observational record of this quantity. This modification also makes BI suitable for use as a diagnostic tool. Blocking events in the Northern (Southern) Hemisphere were the most persistent and strongest during the cold season and over the Atlantic (Pacific) region, as found using
BI to measure intensity. The characteristics of blocking events derived in this study were compared to previous long-term climatological studies and across each hemisphere. It was found that the temporal and spatial distributions in both hemispheres
were similar to those of longer-term studies. The interannual variability of blocking was also examined with respect to ENSO-related variability for the entire blocking year. It was found that Northern (Southern) Hemisphere blocking events were stronger and more frequent during La NinΛa (El NinΛo) years, a result that is consistent with cyclone variability in each hemisphere. Additionally, these results were compared with previously published studies of interannual variability in blocking occurrence
Risk of fragility fractures in obese patients
The purpose of the study is to assess the association between BMI and the risk of fragility fractures in patients of the Fracture Liaison Service.Π¦Π΅Π»Ρ ΠΈΡΡΠ»Π΅Π΄ΠΎΠ²Π°Π½ΠΈΡ β ΠΎΡΠ΅Π½ΠΊΠ° ΡΠ²ΡΠ·ΠΈ ΠΌΠ΅ΠΆΠ΄Ρ ΠΠΠ’ ΠΈ ΡΠΈΡΠΊΠΎΠΌ Π½ΠΈΠ·ΠΊΠΎΡΠ½Π΅ΡΠ³Π΅ΡΠΈΡΠ΅ΡΠΊΠΈΡ

Thyroid status of males with acute infectious pulmonary destruction
The aim of the study was to investigate the indicators of the thyroid status in males with acute infectious pulmonary destruction (AIPD), depending on the disease form and the presence of complications. Material and methods. The serum levels of total triiodothyronine (T3), total thyroxine (T4) and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) were measured by radioimmunoassay in 80 males with AIPD and 30 healthy males volunteers. Results. T3 serum level is decreased in males with AIPD and is not depended on the disease form and complications. T3 serum level reduction is occurred due to decrease of peripheral conversion of thyroid hormones. If AIPD is complicated by sepsis, then T4 production is reduced. T4 serum level correlates with the presence of sepsis in males with AIPD (rS = β0.49; p = 0.000003). The sepsis probability threshold in males with AIPD for value T4 is β€95.5 nmol/L with a sensitivity of 100 % and a specificity of 62.5 %. Thyroid function remains normal in 25 % (95 % CI: 16β34) of males with AIPD, in other cases it is represented by: primary hypothyroidism β in 11 % (95 % CI: 4β18), nonthyroidal illness syndrome (NTIS) type I β in 44 % (95 % CI: 33β55), NTIS type II β in 11 % (95 % CI: 4β18), NTIS type V β in 9 % (95 % CI: 3β15). NTIS type II is associated with the highest mortality rate (pFisher = 0.0015). T4 serum levels correlate with mortality in males with AIPD (rS = β0.37; p = 0.00082). The mortality probability threshold in males with AIPD for value T4 is β€70.1 nmol/L with a sensitivity of 68.7 % and a specificity of 78.1 %. The obtained data indicates the advisability of monitoring and analysis of the thyroid status indicators in males with AIPD for the diagnosis of sepsis and prognosis of the disease outcome
Anthocyanins as functional food components
Among the natural pigments, anthocyanins are assumed to represent one of the most studied groups. Starting with the first studies on the physicochemical properties of anthocyanins carried out in the 17th century by British naturalist Robert Boyle, the science about these unique compounds has progressed substantially. To date, the structure and functions of anthocyanins in plant cells have been well studied, and the pathway of their biosynthesis is one of the most fully characterized pathways of secondary metabolite biosynthesis at both the biochemical and genetic levels. Along with these fundamental achievements, we are beginning to realize the potential of anthocyanins as compounds of industrial importance, as pigments themselves, as well as components of functional food that contribute to the prevention and reduction of risk of chronic diseases. For a long time, the biological activity of anthocyanins has been underestimated, in particular, due to the data on their low bioavailability. However, studies showed that in humans and animals, these compounds are actively metabolized and the bioavailability, estimated taking into account their metabolites, exceeded 12 %. It has been experimentally shown that anthocyanins have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic, antimutagenic, antidiabetic, anti-cancer, neuroprotective properties, and they are beneficial for eye health. However, the studies conducted cannot always explain the molecular mechanism of action of anthocyanins in the human body. According to some reports, the observed effects are not due to the action of anthocyanins themselves, but to their metabolites, which can be more biologically active because of their increased bioavailability. Other data ascribe the positive effect on human health not to individual anthocyanins, but to the whole complex of polyphenolic compounds consumed. The review summarizes the results of the studies of anthocyanins as components of functional food. Special attention is paid to genetic control of the pigment synthesis. These data are of particular importance in respect to the initiated breeding programs aimed at increasing the content of anthocyanins in cultural plants
