The geometry of antiferromagnetic spin chains

We construct spin chains that describe relativistic sigma-models in the continuum limit, using symplectic geometry as a main tool. The target space can be an arbitrary complex flag manifold, and we find universal expressions for the metric and theta-term.Comment: 31 pages, 3 figure

Giant Magnetoresistance Oscillations Induced by Microwave Radiation and a Zero-Resistance State in a 2D Electron System with a Moderate Mobility

The effect of a microwave field in the frequency range from 54 to 140 GHz\mathrm{GHz} on the magnetotransport in a GaAs quantum well with AlAs/GaAs superlattice barriers and with an electron mobility no higher than 10610^6 cm2/Vs\mathrm{cm^2/Vs} is investigated. In the given two-dimensional system under the effect of microwave radiation, giant resistance oscillations are observed with their positions in magnetic field being determined by the ratio of the radiation frequency to the cyclotron frequency. Earlier, such oscillations had only been observed in GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures with much higher mobilities. When the samples under study are irradiated with a 140-GHz\mathrm{GHz} microwave field, the resistance corresponding to the main oscillation minimum, which occurs near the cyclotron resonance, appears to be close to zero. The results of the study suggest that a mobility value lower than 10610^6 cm2/Vs\mathrm{cm^2/Vs} does not prevent the formation of zero-resistance states in magnetic field in a two-dimensional system under the effect of microwave radiation.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figur

On the cosmic ray diffusion in a violent interstellar medium

    Get PDF
A variety of the available observational data on the cosmic ray (CR) spectrum, anisotropy and composition are in good agreement with a suggestion on the diffusion propagation of CR with energy below 10(15) eV in the interstellar medium. The magnitude of the CR diffusion coefficient and its energy dependence are determined by interstellar medium (ISM) magnetic field spectra. Direct observational data on magnetic field spectra are still absent. A theoretical model to the turbulence generation in the multiphase ISM is resented. The model is based on the multiple generation of secondary shocks and concomitant large-scale rarefactions due to supernova shock interactions with interstellar clouds. The distribution function for ISM shocks are derived to include supernova statistics, diffuse cloud distribution, and various shock wave propagation regimes. This permits calculation of the ISM magnetic field fluctuation spectrum and CR diffusion coefficient for the hot phase of ISM

Semiclassical theory of a quantum pump

In a quantum charge pump, the periodic variation of two parameters that affect the phase of the electronic wavefunction causes the flow of a direct current. The operating mechanism of a quantum pump is based on quantum interference, the phases of interfering amplitudes being modulated by the external parameters. In a ballistic quantum dot, there is a minimum time before which quantum interference can not occur: the Ehrenfest time. Here we calculate the current pumped through a ballistic quantum dot when the Ehrenfest time is comparable to the mean dwell time. Remarkably, we find that the pumped current has a component that is not suppressed if the Ehrenfest time is much larger than the mean dwell time.Comment: 14 pages, 8 figures. Photocurrent, Rectification, and Magnetic Field Symmetry of Induced Current Through Quantum Dots

    Get PDF
We report mesoscopic dc current generation in an open chaotic quantum dot with ac excitation applied to one of the shape-defining gates. For excitation frequencies large compared to the inverse dwell time of electrons in the dot (i.e., GHz), we find mesoscopic fluctuations of induced current that are fully asymmetric in the applied perpendicular magnetic field, as predicted by recent theory. Conductance, measured simultaneously, is found to be symmetric in field. In the adiabatic (i.e., MHz) regime, in contrast, the induced current is always symmetric in field, suggesting its origin is mesoscopic rectification.Comment: related papers at http://marcuslab.harvard.ed

Size effects in radiospectroscopy spectra of ferroelectric nanopowders

The theoretical and experimental investigation of ferroelectric nanopowders is performed. The manifestation in radiospectroscopy spectra of size driven ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transition at some critical particle average size was the main goal of the consideration. In theoretical part the size effect for the materials with ferroelectric tetragonal phase and cubic paraelectric phase was considered allowing for the spontaneous polarization inhomogeneity inside a particle and distribution of particle sizes. In ESR the transformation of the spectra from tetragonal symmetry to cubic symmetry with decreasing of nanoparticle sizes was calculated. Measurements of Fe3+ ESR spectra in nanopowder of BaTiO3 were carried out at room temperature. The decrease of intensity of tetragonal symmetry ESR lines of Fe3+ and appearance of cubic symmetry line with asymmetry of the shoulders was observed with the average sizes decrease with complete disappearance of tetragonal spectrum at average size less or equal 40 nm. The comparison of the theory with experiment was carried out. The value of critical size Rc = 40 nm was extracted from ESR data. The asymmetry and broadening of right hand side shoulder of ESR cubic symmetry line was shown to be related to contribution of paramagnetic centers in the vicinity of the particles surface. The deconvolution of the cubic line allowed to show, that this region size is about 3 nm.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figure

SRG/eROSITA Survey in the Lockman Hole: Classification of X-ray Sources

We have classified the point-like X-ray sources detected by the SRG/eROSITA telescope in the deep Lockman Hole survey. The goal was to separate the sources into Galactic and extragalactic objects. In this work have used the results of our previous cross-match of X-ray sources with optical catalogs. To classify SRG/eROSITA sources we have used the flux ratio Fx/FoF_{x}/F_{o} and information about the source optical extent. As a result, of the 6885 X-ray sources in the eROSITA catalog 357 sources have been classified as Galactic and 5929 and as extragalactic. 539 out of 6885 have been treated as hostless, i.e., having no optical counterparts in the optical catalogs under consideration. 60 have remained unclassified due to the insufficient reliability of optical photometry. Recall and precision for the extragalactic sources are 99.9 and 98.9% (respectively) and 91.6 and 99.7% for the Galactic sources. Using this classification, we have constructed the curves of cumulative number counts for the Galactic and extragalactic sources in the Lockman Hole field.
