from decays: contour-improved versus fixed-order summation in a new QCD perturbation expansion
We consider the determination of from hadronic decays, by
investigating the contour-improved (CI) and the fixed-order (FO)
renormalization group summations in the frame of a new perturbation expansion
of QCD, which incorporates in a systematic way the available information about
the divergent character of the series. The new expansion functions, which
replace the powers of the coupling, are defined by the analytic continuation in
the Borel complex plane, achieved through an optimal conformal mapping. Using a
physical model recently discussed by Beneke and Jamin, we show that the new
CIPT approaches the true results with great precision when the perturbative
order is increased, while the new FOPT gives a less accurate description in the
regions where the imaginary logarithms present in the expansion of the running
coupling are large. With the new expansions, the discrepancy of 0.024 in
between the standard CI and FO summations is reduced to
only 0.009. From the new CIPT we predict , which practically coincides with the result of the
standard FOPT, but has a more solid theoretical basis
Observation of a narrow baryon resonance with positive strangeness formed in Xe collisions
The charge-exchange reaction K^+ Xe --> K^0 p Xe' is investigated using the
data of the DIANA experiment. The distribution of the pK^0 effective mass shows
a prominent enhancement near 1538 MeV formed by \sim 80 events above the
background, whose width is consistent with being entirely due to the
experimental resolution. Under the selections based on a simulation of K^+Xe
collisions, the statistical significance of the signal reaches 5.5\sigma. We
interpret this observation as strong evidence for formation of a pentaquark
baryon with positive strangeness, \Theta^+(uudd\bar{s}), in the charge-exchange
reaction K^+ n --> K^0 p on a bound neutron. The mass of the \Theta^+ baryon is
measured as m(\Theta^+) = 1538+-2 MeV. Using the ratio between the numbers of
resonant and non-resonant charge-exchange events in the peak region, the
intrinsic width of this baryon resonance is determined as \Gamma(\Theta^+) =
0.34+-0.10 MeV.Comment: 19 pages, 8 figure
Observation of a baryon resonance with positive strangeness in K+ collisions with Xe nuclei
The status of our investigation of low-energy Xe collisions in the Xenon
bubble chamber DIANA is reported. In the charge-exchange reaction the spectrum of effective mass shows a resonant enhancement
with MeV/c and ^24.4\sigma$. The mass and width of the
observed resonance are consistent with expectations for the lightest member of
the anti-decuplet of exotic pentaquark baryons, as predicted in the framework
of the chiral soliton model.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figure
Three loop MSbar renormalization of QED in the 't~Hooft-Veltman gauge
Quantum electrodynamics (QED) fixed in the 't~Hooft-Veltman gauge is
renormalized to three loops in the MSbar scheme. The beta-functions and
anomalous dimensions are computed as functions of the usual QED coupling and
the additional coupling, xi, which is introduced as part of the nonlinear gauge
fixing condition. Similar to the maximal abelian gauge of quantum
chromodynamics, the renormalization of the gauge parameter is singular.Comment: 8 latex page
Further evidence for formation of a narrow baryon resonance with positive strangeness in K+ collisions with Xe nuclei
We have continued our investigation of the charge-exchange reaction K^+ Xe
--> K^0 p Xe' in the bubble chamber DIANA. In agreement with our previous
results based on part of the present statistics, formation of a narrow p K^0
resonance with mass of 1537+-2 MeV/c^2 is observed in the elementary transition
K^+ n --> K^0 p on a neutron bound in the Xenon nucleus. Visible width of the
peak is consistent with being entirely due to instrumental resolution and
allows to place an upper limit on its intrinsic width: \Gamma < 9 MeV/c^2. A
more precise estimate of the resonance intrinsic width, \Gamma = 0.36+-0.11
MeV/c^2, is obtained from the ratio between the numbers of resonant and
non-resonant charge-exchange events. The signal is observed in a restricted
interval of incident K^+ momentum, that is consistent with smearing of a narrow
p K^0 resonance by Fermi motion of the target neutron. Statistical significance
of the signal is some 7.3, 5.3, and 4.3 standard deviations for the estimators
S/sqrt{B}, S/sqrt{S+B}, and S/sqrt{S+2B}, respectively. This observation
confirms and reinforces our earlier results, and offers strong evidence for
formation of a pentaquark baryon with positive strangeness in the
charge-exchange reaction K^+ n --> K^0 p on a bound neutron.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures, some chenges in text and references, more

Two-loop three-gluon vertex in zero-momentum limit
The two-loop three-gluon vertex is calculated in an arbitrary covariant
gauge, in the limit when one of the external momenta vanishes. The differential
Ward-Slavnov-Taylor (WST) identity related to this limit is discussed, and the
relevant results for the ghost-gluon vertex and two-point functions are
obtained. Together with the differential WST identity, they provide another
independent way for calculating the three-gluon vertex. The renormalization of
the results obtained is also presented.Comment: 22 pages, LaTeX, including 4 figures, uses eps
Photoproduction of Pseudoscalar Mesons off Nuclei at Forward Angles
With the advent of new photon tagging facilities and novel experimental
technologies it has become possible to perform photoproduction cross section
measurements of pseudoscalar mesons on nuclei with a percent level accuracy.
The extraction of the radiative decay widths from these measurements at forward
angles is done by the Primakoff method, which requires theoretical treatment of
all processes participating in these reactions at the same percent level. In
this work we review the theoretical approach to meson photoproduction
amplitudes in the electromagnetic and strong fields of nuclei at forward
direction. The most updated description of these processes are presented based
on the Glauber theory of multiple scattering. In particular, the effects of
final state interactions, corrections for light nuclei, and photon shadowing in
nuclei are discussed.Comment: 22 pages, 8 figure
Electric dipole moments, from e to tau
We derive an upper limit on the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the
tau-lepton, which follows from the precision measurements of the electron EDM.Comment: 4 pages; v2: a typo in the formula (8) fixed, Ref. [6] update
