Tensor Ayy and vector Ay analyzing powers in the H(d,d')X and ^{12}C(d,d')X reactons at initial deuteron momenta of 9 GeV/c in the region of baryonic resonances excitation
The angular dependence of the tensor Ayy and vector Ay analyzing powers in
the inelastic scattering of deuterons with a momentum of 9.0 GeV/c on hydrogen
and carbon have been measured. The range of measurements corresponds to the
baryonic resonance excitation with masses 2.2--2.6 GeV/c^2. The Ayy data being
in good agreement with the previous results demonstrate an approximate
scaling up to -1.5 (GeV/c)^2. The large values of A_y show a significant role
of the spin-dependent part of the elementary amplitude of the NN->NN* reaction.
The results of the experiment are compared with model predictions of the
plane-wave impulse approximation.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures. submitted to Yad.Fi
Beam-induced Background Simulations for the CMS Experiment at the LHC
Beam-induced background comes from interactions of the beam and beam halo particles with either the residual gas in the vacuum chamber of accelerator or the collimators that define the beam aperture. Beam-induced processes can potentially be a significant source of background for physics analyses at the LHC. This contribution describes the simulation software environment used for this part of the CMS experiment activity and recent beam-induced background simulation results for the Phase-2 CMS operation design
Machine Induced Background in the Low Luminosity Insertions of the LHC
The effect of the machine induced background is studied for the low luminosity insertions of the LHC. Estimations for the fluxes of the secondary particles, induced by the proton losses in the LHC, are presented for several running conditions of the collider. The formation of the background in the machine structure is discussed
Cascade Simulations for the LHC Betatron Cleaning Insertion
A cascade calculation is done in the IR7 betatron cleaning insertion of LHC. It uses a detailed map of the primary losses and an accurate model of the straight section. One aim is to design a compact shielding which fits in the tight section of the tunnel. The same study allows to define radiation hardness properties of the equipment to be installed in the section and to locate areas of low activi ty for the installation of sensitive equipment
Measurement of the tensor Ayy and vector Ay analyzing powers of the deuteron inelastic scattering off berillium at 5.0 GeV/c and 178 mr
Tensor Ayy and vector Ay analyzing powers in the inelastic scattering of
deuterons with the momentum of 5.0 GeV/c on beryllium at an angle of 178 mr in
the vicinity of the excitation of baryonic resonances with masses up to
1.8 GeV/c^2 have been measured. The Ayy data are in a good agreement with the
previous data obtained at 4.5 and 5.5 GeV/c. The results of the experiment are
compared with the predictions of the plane wave impulse approximation and
\omega-meson exchange models.Comment: 18 pages, 9 figure
The study of the machine-induced background and its applications at the LHC
We present the recent advances in the analysis of the machine-induced background generation and formation at the LHC. Different aspects of the study of the machine background problem at the LHC are reviewed, including the background production at the different stages of the machine operation, the role and influence on the background from the collimators in the experimental insertions and the background shielding. The potential use of the machine background for the purposes of detector testing and alignment is also discussed
