Interlayer tunneling spectroscopy of BiSrCaCuO: a look from inside on the doping phase diagram of high superconductors
A systematic, doping dependent interlayer tunneling spectroscopy of Bi2212
high superconductor is presented. An improved resolution made it possible
to simultaneously trace the superconducting gap (SG) and the normal state
pseudo-gap (PG) in a close vicinity of and to analyze closing of the PG
at . The obtained doping phase diagram exhibits a critical doping point
for appearance of the PG and a characteristic crossing of the SG and the PG
close to the optimal doping. This points towards coexistence of two different
and competing order parameters in Bi2212. Experimental data indicate that the
SG can form a combined (large) gap with the PG at and that the
interlayer tunneling becomes progressively incoherent with decreasing doping.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
Observation of superluminal geometrical resonances in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x intrinsic Josephson junctions
We study Fiske steps in small Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x mesa structures, containing
only few stacked intrinsic Josephson junctions. Careful alignment of magnetic
field prevents penetration of Abrikosov vortices and facilitates observation of
a large variety of high quality geometrical resonances, including superluminal
with velocities larger than the slowest velocity of electromagnetic waves. A
small number of junctions limits the number of resonant modes and allows
accurate identification of modes and velocities. It is shown that superluminal
geometrical resonances can be excited by subluminal fluxon motion and that
flux-flow itself becomes superluminal at high magnetic fields. We argue that
observation of high-quality superluminal geometrical resonances is crucial for
realization of the coherent flux-flow oscillator in the THz frequency range
Experiment K-6-22. Growth hormone regulation, synthesis and secretion in microgravity. Part 1: Somatotroph physiology. Part 2: Immunohistochemical analysis of hypothalamic hormones. Part 3: Plasma analysis
The objectives of the 1887 mission were: (1) to determine if the results of the SL-3 pituitary gland experiment (1) were repeatable; and (2) to determine what effect a longer mission would have on the rat pituitary gland growth hormone (GH) system. In the 1887 experiment two issues were considered especially important. First, it was recognized that cells prepared from individual rat pituitary glands should be considered separately so that the data from the 5 glands could be analyzed in a statistically meaningful way. Second, results of the SL-3 flight involving the hollow fiber implant and HPLC GH-variant experiments suggested that the biological activity of the hormone had been negatively affected by flight. The results of the 1887 experiment documented the wisdom of addressing both issues in the protocol. Thus, the reduction in secretory capacity of flight cells during subsequent extended cell culture on Earth was documented statistically, and thereby established the validity of the SL-3 result. The results of both flight experiments thus support the contention that there is a secretory lesion in pituitary GH cells of flight animals. The primary objective of both missions was a clear definition of the effect of spaceflight on the GH cell system. There can no longer be any reasonable doubt that this system is affected in microgravity. One explanation for the reason(s) underlying the better known effects of spaceflight on organisms, viz. changes in bone, muscle and immune systems may very well rest with such changes in bGH. In spite of the fact that rats in the Cosmos 1887 flight were on Earth for two days after flight, the data show that the GH system had still not recovered from the effects of flight. Many questions remain. One of the more important concerns the GRF responsiveness of somatotrophs after flight. This will be tested in an upcoming experiment
Disparity of superconducting and pseudogap scales in low-Tc Bi-2201 cuprates
We experimentally study transport and intrinsic tunneling characteristics of
a single-layer cuprate Bi(2+x)Sr(2-y)CuO(6+delta) with a low superconducting
critical temperature Tc < 4 K. It is observed that the superconducting energy,
critical field and fluctuation temperature range are scaling down with Tc,
while the corresponding pseudogap characteristics have the same order of
magnitude as for high-Tc cuprates with 20 to 30 times higher Tc. The observed
disparity of the superconducting and pseudogap scales clearly reveals their
different origins.Comment: 5 page
A case of successful multi-stage surgical treatment of liver echinococcosis
A clinical case of successful radical multi-stage surgical treatment of a patient with bilobar parasitic lesion of the liver with echinococcosis complicated by infection of one of the cysts is presented. The patient was admitted to the clinic with volumetric lesions in both lobes of the liver. At the stage of differential diagnosis, on the basis of process verification by puncture biopsy under ultrasound control, the ethiology of mass lesions was reliably established. At the primary stationary stage, infection of one of the echinococcal cysts was diagnosed, for which the cyst was drained under ultrasound control. After that, the patient was discharged to the outpatient care for compensation, correction of the general level of health and nutritional status. At the next stage of the inpatient examination, the patient was determined to have an insufficient level of functional reserves of the liver to perform a radical operation. For this reason, laparoscopic ligation of the right branch of the portal vein was performed in order to develop vicarious hypertrophy of the contralateral lobe. After 30 days, the increased level of functional reserves of the liver made it possible to plan radical surgical treatment with an acceptable risk for the patient. The operation was performed in the amount of right-sided extended hemihepatectomy with marginal resection of the 3rd segment of the liver. The symptoms of liver failure in the postoperative period according to the ISGLS scale were regarded as Grade A. The patient was discharged from the hospital in a satisfactory condition on day 10 after the operation. In the postoperative period, courses of therapy with albendazole were prescribed according to the standard scheme. The patient is under observation for more than a year after treatment. The condition is satisfactory. No recurrence of the disease was noted
Legal reality as a jural category
© 2015, Mediterranean Center of Social and Educational Research. All rights reserved. The article studies legal significance of the category «legal reality». There is the author’s definition of the category. The basic elements of the given category are considered. The conclusion is made that legal reality as a fundamental jural category is a complex multilevel system that includes the entirety of real legal phenomena and legal ideal. The system determines the sphere of legal being both individual and social
Discourse of corruption in the Russian society
Objective: to study the socio-cultural and legal nature of the corruption phenomenon in a discursive and communicative context. Methods: the methodological basis of the article is the synthesis of the discursive and communicative theory of J. Habermas and W. Krawietz’s integrative theory of legal reality, focusing on the interdisciplinary study of corruption as an interdisciplinary category, taking into account not only objective, but also subjective components. This determined the choice of research methods (comparative, hermeneutic, and discursive methods). Results: corruption as a phenomenon and the interdisciplinary category reflecting it is determined by social, cultural and psychological factors of the legal reality development. Acting as a complex legal archetype, it defines the value attitudes of consciousness and behavior of the legal communication participants, orienting them to carry out actions aimed at satisfying individual (less often group and social) interests, even if they contradict the law. Corrupt behavior is perceived by a large part of the Russian society as a model of hierarchical interaction of the legal communication subjects, the purpose of which, according to the addressee, is to increase the effectiveness of the addressee’s activities. In addition, corruption is becoming an informal means of “liberation” from the legal requirements, rigid and unfair, according to some representatives of the society. In these conditions, the success of the institutional fight against corruption can be achieved only if this fight involves not only improvement of anti-corruption legislation, but also countering shadow norms, creating a system of anti-incentives for corrupt behavior, including ideologically, through the formation of value attitudes of citizens to reject corrupt practices as unpatriotic and harmful to the rule of law and the legal culture of the society as a whole.Scientific novelty: for the first time in Russian jurisprudence, a study of the category of corruption in the communicative and discursive aspect was conducted.Practical significance: the main provisions and conclusions of the article can be used in scientific and pedagogical activities when considering the issues of the essence and content of the Russian legal reality, in the anti-corruption activities of state and municipal bodies, as well as in anti-corruption education

We study pocket universes which have zero cosmological constant and
non-trivial boundary topology. These arise from bubble collisions in eternal
inflation. Using a simplified dust model of collisions we find that boundaries
of any genus can occur. Using a radiation shell model we perform analytic
studies in the thin wall limit to show the existence of geometries with a
single toroidal boundary. We give plausibility arguments that higher genus
boundaries can also occur. In geometries with one boundary of any genus a
timelike observer can see the entire boundary. Geometries with multiple
disconnected boundaries can also occur. In the spherical case with two
boundaries the boundaries are separated by a horizon. Our results suggest that
the holographic dual description for eternal inflation, proposed by Freivogel,
Sekino, Susskind and Yeh, should include summation over the genus of the base
space of the dual conformal field theory. We point out peculiarities of this
genus expansion compared to the string perturbation series.Comment: 23 pages, 6 figure
