fueron: excelentes, 34%; buenos, 64%, y malos 4%.The authors review a series of children and adolescent with valgus flatfoot which
were operated on our Hospital from 1987 to 1992. The operation consisted of the placement
of a subtalar prosthesis according to Gianini's technique wich was employed in 73 cases, on
an average 11 year-old children and a follow up of 3 year average. The evaluation of the results
was done according to the anatomic correction, radiologic correction and the foot mobility,
and were classified in: excellent (the tree parameters were standarizated), good (important improvement
of them), and poor (only one parameter was improved). The results was: excellent
34%, good 64%, poor 4%
fué uniformemente buenaTh e author s repor t fou r case s o f posterio r shoulde r dislocatio n o f

que lo fueron de forma diferida (p< 0,001).The present work shows a retrospective review of 207 adult ankle fractures operated
on the Cabueñes's Hospital of Gijon from 1986 to 1993 with an average of follow-up of
19 months. They were classified according to AO criteria. The assessment of results was based
on clinical functional and radiological criteria, recording 79% of excelent and good clinical results,
and 7% of no satisfactory reductions. Cases with no satisfactory reductions showed statistical
significance (p< 0.01) in the type C respect to the other two types (A y B). Then were also
statistical differences with respect to the delay of surgery, with a higher rate of excelent results
in the fractures treated early than the fractures treated with delay (p< 0.001
Use of the alpha parameter method to calculate matrix corrections for infinitely thick targets (TTPIXE) with two different incident beam energies
The alpha parameter correction method for calculating matrix effects in PIXE data does not require a priori knowledge of the major element composition of the matrix but implies the determination of a so-called alpha parameter linking two independent phenomena: X-ray absorption and proton energy loss. The method extrapolated to the infinitely thick targets (TTPIXE) has been previously studied using two PIXE measurements in two different geometric configurations. The present Study deals with the possibility of using pairs of PIXE measurements at two different energies to obtain the alpha corresponding to thick samples (TTPIXE). The experimental conditions and error minimization problems are discussed. General tables allowing an easy use of the method are presented

Correlation of serum trace elements with other biological parameters in hemoproliferative disorders
peer reviewedSerum trace elements were measured by PIXE in 88 patients with hemoproliferative disorders (Lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, chronic lymphocytic leukemi, multiple myeloma, polycythemia vera and myeloproliferative disorders). Calcium, copper, zinc, selenium and bromine were correlated with other biological parameters, including hematocrit, WBC and platelet counts, ESR, fibrinogen, transferrin, ceruloplasmin, haptoglobin, orosomucoid, antitrypsin, serum protein, albumin, alph 2-globulin, alkaline phosphatase, SGPT, LDH, gamma-GT, cholesterol, triglycerides, glycemia, urea, uric acid, creatinine, beta 2-microglobulin, CEA and C1g assay for circulating immune complexes. Copper was correlated with the different inflammatory tests (all P values < 0,01) and with the value of th C1g assay (P < 0,001). Zinc was inversely correlated with the inflammatory tests. The Cu/Zn ratio was thus significantly related to the importance of inflammation (all P values < 0,01). Calcium and zinc were correlated with albumin (P < 0,05). Selenium was positively correlated with gamma-GT (P < 0,001), and also with glycemia (P < 0,001) and alkaline phosphatase (P < 0,001), and also with glycemia (P < 0,001). Bromine was not significantly associated with any other biological parameter. The significance of these associations is discussed
