    Effects of brand trust, perceived fit and consumer innovativeness on fashion brand extension evaluation

    This study explored the effects of brand trust, perceived fit, and consumer innovativeness on the overall evaluation of vertical and horizontal extensions for fashion brands. Data were collected from 187 female consumers aged 18 or older who were familiar with Giorgio Armani, the parent brand chosen for this study. Regression results showed that brand trust was a positive predictor of the overall evaluations of both vertical and horizontal extensions, whereas consumer innovativeness was a negative predictor of the overall evaluations of both extensions. Perceived fit exerted a negative impact on the evaluation for vertical extension but had a positive impact on the evaluation of horizontal extension. Perceived fit also moderated the relationship between brand trust and extension evaluation for both vertical and horizontal extensions. Further, perceived fit was a significant moderator for the relationship between consumer innovativeness and vertical extension evaluation. Implications for future research and limitations were also discussed

    Injury pyramid of unintentional injuries according to sex and age in South Korea

    Objective The injury-related disease burden in South Korea is relatively high compared to that in other nations. This study was conducted to identify the scale and causes of injury by severity, using an injury pyramid and analyzing the sex and age-dependent differences and the basic demographic characteristics. Methods Unintentional injury was estimated for each group after classifying injury-related deaths, hospitalizations, and outpatient department (OPD) visits based on their severity. The injury pyramid was calculated by classifying the injury outcomes into deaths, hospitalizations, and outpatient visits. Results The incidence of unintentional injury included 31.74 deaths, 1,715.27 hospitalizations, and 7,317.55 OPD visits per 100,000 persons. The incidence of injury was higher among males than that among females. There were more hospitalizations and OPD visits than deaths among females. The mortality and hospitalization rates due to injury per 100,000 persons were the highest among those ≥75 years old, and the OPD visit rate was the highest among preschool children aged 0 to 6 years. The injury mechanisms that caused most deaths and hospitalizations in South Korea were injuries related to traffic, falls, poisoning, and burns/fires. Conclusion The scale of unintentional injury varies based on sex, age, and injury mechanism; additionally there are differences in the incidence of injuries between males and females depending on their age and injury mechanism. The high incidence of injury in elderly people could be a factor that increases the burden of injury in South Korea; hence, it is necessary to develop an injury prevention program that targets the elderly

    Factors associated with satisfaction with pediatric emergency department services in Korea: analysis of Korea Health Panel Data 2010 to 2012

    Objective We aimed to investigate the factors related to satisfaction with the pediatric emergency department service in Korea. Methods This study examined data from the Korea Health Panel Data from 2010 to 2012. Pediatric patients who visited the emergency department at least once between 2010 and 2012 in Korea were included. Data were collected on patient satisfaction with the emergency department service, and factors related to the patient characteristics, emergency department service process, and medical institution. We compared the dissatisfied and satisfied groups, and calculated the odds ratios for satisfaction according to each variable. Results A total of 1,505 emergency department visits from 947 pediatric patients during the 3-year period were analyzed. We estimated that about 79.5% of patients in the population were satisfied. The odds of expressing satisfaction were higher among males than in females, and among patients who were hospitalized after emergency department treatment compared to those who were transferred to another hospital. Conversely, the odds of expressing satisfaction were lower among patients who had a chronic disease, a financial source other than National Health Insurance, experienced hospitalization within 1 year. Conclusion Our study results might be helpful for establishing a satisfactory pediatric emergency medical service system. In the future, further prospective studies evaluating the causal relationships between the relevant factors and patient satisfaction are warranted

    Use of smart glasses for ultrasound-guided peripheral venous access: a randomized controlled pilot study

    Objective Smart glasses can provide sonographers with real-time ultrasound images. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the utility of smart-glasses for ultrasound-guided peripheral venous access. Methods In this randomized, crossover-design, simulation study, 12 participants were recruited from the emergency department residents at a university hospital. Each participant attempted ultrasound-guided peripheral venous access on a pediatric phantom at intervals of 5 days with (glasses group) or without (non-glasses group) the use of smart glasses. In the glasses group, participants confirmed the ultrasound image through the lens of the smart glasses. In the non-glasses group, participants confirmed the ultrasound image through the display viewer located next to the phantom. Procedure time was regarded as the primary outcome, while secondary outcomes included the number of head movements for the participant, number of skin punctures, number of needle redirections, and subjective difficulty. Results No significant differences in procedural time were observed between the groups (non-glasses group: median time, 15.5 seconds; interquartile range [IQR], 10.3 to 27.3 seconds; glasses group: median time, 19.0 seconds; IQR, 14.3 to 39.3 seconds; P=0.58). The number of head movements was lower in the glasses group than in the non-glasses group (glasses group: median, 0; IQR, 0 to 0; non-glasses group: median, 4; IQR, 3 to 5; P<0.01). No significant differences in the number of skin punctures or needle restrictions were observed between the groups. Conclusion Our results indicate that smart-glasses may aid in ensuring ultrasound-guided peripheral venous access by reducing head movements

    Virtual surface morphology generation of Ti-6Al-4V directed energy deposition via conditional generative adversarial network

    The core challenge in directed energy deposition is to obtain high surface quality through process optimisation, which directly affects the mechanical properties of fabricated parts. However, for expensive materials like Ti-6Al-4V, the cost and time required to optimise process parameters can be excessive in inducing good surface quality. To mitigate these challenges, we propose a novel method with artificial intelligence to generate virtual surface morphology of Ti-6Al-4V parts by given process parameters. A high-resolution surface morphology image generation system has been developed by optimising conditional generative adversarial networks. The developed virtual surface matches experimental cases well with an Frechet inception distance score of 174, in the range of accurate matching. Microstructural analysis with parts fabricated with artificial intelligence guidance exhibited less textured microstructural behaviour on the surface which reduces the anisotropy in the columnar structure. This artificial intelligence guidance of virtual surface morphology can help to obtain high-quality parts cost-effectively

    Characteristics of mid-infrared PAH emission from star-forming galaxies selected at 250 μm in the North Ecliptic Pole field

    Evolutionary properties of infrared (IR) luminous galaxies are important keys to understand dust-obscured star formation history and galaxy evolution. Based on near- to mid-IR imaging with nine continuous filters of the AKARI space telescope, we present the characteristics of dusty star-forming (SF) galaxies showing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) features observed by the North Ecliptic Pole (NEP) wide field survey of AKARI and Herschel. All the sample galaxies from the AKARI/NEP-Wide data are selected based both on the Herschel/SPIRE 250 μm detection and optical spectroscopic redshift data. The physical modeling of spectral energy distribution (SED) using all available data points from u* to sub-mm 500 μm band, including WISE and PACS data where available, takes unique advantages of the continuous near- to mid-IR coverage, the reliable constraint on the far-IR peak, and spectroscopically determined accurate redshifts, as well as the energy balance principle by MAGPHYS. This enables us to derive physically meaningful and accurate total infrared luminosity and 8 μm (or PAH) luminosity consistently. Our sample galaxies are in the redshift range z < 1, and the majority of them appear to be normal SF/spiral populations showing PAH features near 8 μm. These SF galaxies showing PAHs in the mid-IR include various types, from quiescent to starbursts. Some of our sample show shortage of 8 μm luminosity compared to the total IR luminosity and this PAH deficit gets severe in more-luminous IR galaxies, suggesting PAH molecules in these galaxies are destroyed by a strong radiation field from the SF region or a large amount of cold dust in the interstellar medium. The specific SFR of our sample shows mass-dependent time evolution which is consistent with a downsizing evolutionary pattern

    The mid-infrared view of red sequence galaxies in Abell 2218 with <i>AKARI</i>

    We present the AKARI Infrared Camera (IRC) imaging observation of early-type galaxies (ETGs) in A2218 at z ~ 0.175. Mid-infrared (MIR) emission from ETGs traces circumstellar dust emission from asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars or/and residual star formation. Including the unique imaging capability at 11 and 15 μm, our AKARI data provide an effective way to investigate MIR properties of ETGs in the cluster environment. Among our flux-limited sample of 22 red sequence ETGs with precise dynamical and line strength measurements (less than 18 mag at 3 μm), we find that at least 41% have MIR-excess emission. The N3 – S11 versus N3 (3 and 11 μm) color-magnitude relation shows the expected blue sequence, but the MIR-excess galaxies add a red wing to the relation especially at the fainter end. A spectral energy distribution analysis reveals that the dust emission from AGB stars is the most likely cause of the MIR excess, with a low level of star formation being the next possible explanation. The MIR-excess galaxies show a wide spread of N3 – S11 colors, implying a significant spread (2-11 Gyr) in the estimated mean ages of stellar populations. We study the environmental dependence of MIR-excess ETGs over an area out to a half virial radius (~1 Mpc). We find that the MIR-excess ETGs are preferentially located in the outer region. From this evidence, we suggest that the fainter, MIR-excess ETGs have just joined the red sequence, possibly due to the infall and subsequent morphological/spectral transformation induced by the cluster environment

    A Randomized Comparison Simulating Face to Face Endotracheal Intubation of Pentax Airway Scope, C-MAC Video Laryngoscope, Glidescope Video Laryngoscope, and Macintosh Laryngoscope

    Objectives. Early airway management is very important for severely ill patients. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of face to face intubation in four different types of laryngoscopes (Macintosh laryngoscope, Pentax airway scope (AWS), Glidescope video laryngoscope (GVL), and C-MAC video laryngoscope (C-MAC)). Method. Ninety-five nurses and emergency medical technicians were trained to use the AWS, C-MAC, GVL and Macintosh laryngoscope with standard airway trainer manikin and face to face intubation. We compared VCET (vocal cord exposure time), tube pass time, 1st ventilation time, VCET to tube pass time, tube pass time to 1st ventilation time, and POGO (percentage of glottis opening) score. In addition, we compared success rate according to the number of attempts and complications. Result. VCET was similar among all laryngoscopes and POGO score was higher in AWS. AWS and Macintosh blade were faster than GVL and C-MAC in total intubation time. Face to face intubation success rate was lower in GVL than other laryngoscopes. Conclusion. AWS and Macintosh were favorable laryngoscopes in face to face intubation. GVL had disadvantage performing face to face intubation
