Parity-violating asymmetry in with a pionless effective theory
Nuclear parity violation is studied with polarized neutrons in the
photodisintegration of the deuteron at low energies. A pionless effective field
theory with di-baryon fields is used for the investigation. Hadronic weak
interactions are treated by parity-violating di-baryon-nucleon-nucleon
vertices, which have undetermined coupling contants. A parity-violating
asymmetry in the process is calculated for the incident photon energy up to 30
MeV. If experimental data for the parity-violating asymmetry become available
in the future, we will be able to determine the unknown coupling contants in
the parity-violating vertices.Comment: 4 pages. A contribution to APFB2011, August 22-26, 2011, Seoul, Kore
Observation of a linear temperature dependence of the critical current density in a Ba_{0.63}K_{0.37}BiO_3 single crystal
For a Ba_{0.63}K_{0.37}BiO_3 single crystal with T_c=31 K, H_{c1}=750 Oe at 5
K, and dimensions 3x3x1 mm^3, the temperature and field dependences of magnetic
hysteresis loops have been measured within 5-25 K in magnetic fields up to 6
Tesla. The critical current density is J_c(0)=1.5 x 10^5 A/cm^2 at zero field
and 1 x 10^5 A/cm^2 at 1 kOe at 5 K. J_c decreases exponentially with
increasing field up to 10 kOe. A linear temperature dependence of J_c is
observed below 25 K, which differs from the exponential and the power-law
temperature dependences in high-Tc superconductors including the BKBO. The
linear temperature dependence can be regarded as an intrinsic effect in
superconductors.Comment: RevTex, Physica C Vol. 341-348, 729 (2000
The General Warped Solution with Conical Branes in Six-dimensional Supergravity
We present the general regular warped solution with 4D Minkowski spacetime in
six-dimensional gauged supergravity. In this framework, we can easily embed
multiple conical branes into the warped geometry by choosing an undetermined
holomorphic function. As an example, for the holomorphic function with many
zeroes, we find warped solutions with multi-branes and discuss the generalized
flux quantization in this case.Comment: 1+19 pages, no figure, JHEP style, version to appear in JHE
Parity nonconservation in deuteron photoreactions
We calculate the asymmetries in parity nonconserving deuteron
photodisintegration due to circularly polarized photons gamma+d to n+p with the
photon laboratory energy ranging from the threshold up to 10 MeV and the
radiative capture of thermal polarized neutrons by protons n+p to gamma+d. We
use the leading order electromagnetic Hamiltonian neglecting the smaller
nuclear exchange currents. Comparative calculations are done by using the
Reid93 and Argonne v18 potentials for the strong interaction and the DDH and
FCDH "best" values for the weak couplings in a weak one-meson exchange
potential. A weak NDelta transition potential is used to incorporate also the
Delta(1232)-isobar excitation in the coupled-channels formalism.Comment: 14 pages, 13 figures (18 eps files), LaTeX2
Scalar Hair of Global Defect and Black Brane World
We consider a complex scalar field in (p+3)-dimensional bulk with a negative
cosmological constant and study global vortices in two extra-dimensions. We
reexamine carefully the coupled scalar and Einstein equations, and show that
the boundary value of scalar amplitude at infinity of the extra-dimensions
should be smaller than vacuum expectation value. The brane world has a
cigar-like geometry with an exponentially decaying warp factor and a flat thick
p-brane is embedded. Since a coordinate transformation identifies the obtained
brane world as a black p-brane world bounded by a horizon, this strange
boundary condition of the scalar amplitude is understood as existence of a
short scalar hair.Comment: 26 pages, 2 figure
CSF GFAP levels in double seronegative neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder: no evidence of astrocyte damage
BACKGROUND: Despite rigorous confirmation with reliable assays, some individuals showing the neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) phenotype remain negative for both aquaporin-4 (AQP4) and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibodies.: OBJECTIVE: We aimed to investigate whether double seronegative NMOSD (DN-NMOSD) and NMOSD with AQP4 antibody (AQP4-NMOSD) share the same pathophysiological basis, astrocytopathy, by measurement of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) levels as a marker of astrocyte damage. METHODS: Seventeen participants who (1) satisfied the 2015 diagnostic criteria for NMOSD, and (2) tested negative for AQP4 and MOG antibodies confirmed with repeated cell-based assays, and (3) had available CSF samples obtained at the point of clinical attacks, were enrolled from 4 medical centers (South Korea, Germany, Thailand, and Denmark). Thirty age-matched participants with AQP4-NMOSD, 17 participants with MOG antibody associated disease (MOGAD), and 15 participants with other neurological disorders (OND) were included as controls. The concentration of CSF GFAP was measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS: CSF GFAP levels in the DN-NMOSD group were significantly lower than those in the AQP4-NMOSD group (median: 0.49 versus 102.9Â ng/mL; pâ<â0.001), but similar to those in the OND (0.25Â ng/mL) and MOGAD (0.39Â ng/mL) control groups. The majority (90% (27/30)) of participants in the AQP4-NMOSD group showed significantly higher CSF GFAP levels than the highest level measured in the OND group, while no participant in the DN-NMOSD and MOGAD groups did. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that DN-NMOSD has a different underlying pathogenesis other than astrocytopathy, distinct from AQP4-NMOSD
Testing Holographic Principle from Logarithmic and Higher Order Corrections to Black Hole Entropy
The holographic principle is tested by examining the logarithmic and higher
order corrections to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of black holes. For the BTZ
black hole, I find some disagreement in the principle for a holography screen
at spatial infinity beyond the leading order, but a holography with the screen
at the horizon does not, with an appropriate choice of a period parameter,
which has been undetermined at the leading order, in Carlip's horizon-CFT
approach for black hole entropy in any dimension. Its higher dimensional
generalization is considered to see a universality of the parameter choice. The
horizon holography from Carlip's is compared with several other realizations of
a horizon holography, including induced Wess-Zumino-Witten model approaches and
quantum geometry approach, but none of the these agrees with Carlip's, after
clarifications of some confusions. Some challenging open questions are listed
finally.Comment: To appear in JHEP. The corrections in Sec.2 with those that follow
are more clearly explained. Careful distingtion between the implications of
my results to AdS/CFT and to the holograhic principl
Proton-proton fusion in pionless effective theory
The proton-proton fusion reaction, , is studied in pionless
effective field theory (EFT) with di-baryon fields up to next-to leading order.
With the aid of the di-baryon fields, the effective range corrections are
naturally resummed up to the infinite order and thus the calculation is greatly
simplified. Furthermore, the low-energy constant which appears in the
axial-current-di-baryon-di-baryon contact vertex is fixed through the ratio of
two- and one-body matrix elements which reproduces the tritium lifetime very
precisely. As a result we can perform a parameter free calculation for the
process. We compare our numerical result with those from the accurate potential
model and previous pionless EFT calculations, and find a good agreement within
the accuracy better than 1%.Comment: 14 pages, 5 eps figure
Sulfonated Styrene-(ethylene-co-butylene)-styrene/Montmorillonite Clay Nanocomposites: Synthesis, Morphology, and Properties
Sulfonated styrene-(ethylene-butylene)-styrene triblock copolymer (SSEBS) was synthesized by reaction of acetyl sulfate with SEBS. SSESB-clay nanocomposites were then prepared from hydrophilic Na-montmorillonite (MT) and organically (quaternary amine) modified hydrophobic nanoclay (OMT) at very low loading. SEBS did not show improvement in properties with MT-based nanocomposites. On sulfonation (3 and 6 weight%) of SEBS, hydrophilic MT clay-based nanocomposites exhibited better mechanical, dynamic mechanical, and thermal properties, and also controlled waterâmethanol mixture uptake and permeation and AC resistance. Microstructure determined by X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy due to better dispersion of MT nanoclay particles and interaction of MT with SSEBS matrix was responsible for this effect. The resulting nanocomposites have potential as proton transfer membranes for Fuel Cell applications
