    Cross-cultural comparison of mental illness stigma and help-seeking attitudes: a multinational population-based study from 16 Arab countries and 10,036 individuals

    BackgroundThere is evidence that culture deeply affects beliefs about mental illnesses\u27 causes, treatment, and help-seeking. We aimed to explore and compare knowledge, attitudes toward mental illness and help-seeking, causal attributions, and help-seeking recommendations for mental illnesses across various Arab countries and investigate factors related to attitudes toward help-seeking.MethodsWe carried out a multinational cross-sectional study using online self-administered surveys in the Arabic language from June to November 2021 across 16 Arab countries among participants from the general public.ResultsMore than one in four individuals exhibited stigmatizing attitudes towards mental illness (26.5%), had poor knowledge (31.7%), and hold negative attitudes toward help-seeking (28.0%). ANOVA tests revealed a significant difference between countries regarding attitudes (F = 194.8, p \u3c .001), knowledge (F = 88.7, p \u3c .001), and help-seeking attitudes (F = 32.4, p \u3c .001). Three multivariate regression analysis models were performed for overall sample, as well as Palestinian and Sudanese samples that displayed the lowest and highest ATSPPH-SF scores, respectively. In the overall sample, being female, older, having higher knowledge and more positive attitudes toward mental illness, and endorsing biomedical and psychosocial causations were associated with more favorable help-seeking attitudes; whereas having a family psychiatric history and endorsing religious/supernatural causations were associated with more negative help-seeking attitudes. The same results have been found in the Palestinian sample, while only stigma dimensions helped predict help-seeking attitudes in Sudanese participants.ConclusionInterventions aiming at improving help-seeking attitudes and behaviors and promoting early access to care need to be culturally tailored, and congruent with public beliefs about mental illnesses and their causations

    Lake Matano is one of the ancient lakes in Sulawesi where some endemic fish species of Telmatherina, Mugilogobius, Oryziasand Glossogobius matanensis lived. The presence of alien species can be on threat for the loss of biodiversity in fresh waters, including endemic fish in Lake Matano. The research aim to review the threat of louhan fish as alien species to endemic fish in Lake Matano. The study was conducted in Lake Matano at five stations in April and August 2015 namely Lawa, Nuha, Petea, Pantai Impian, and Pantai Kupu-kupu. Sam-ples were collected using experimental gillnet with mesh size of ¾; 1; 1¼; 1⅟2; 2; 2,5; and 3 inches. Fouteen species were found consist of 10 endemic species and red list.These were three of genus Glossogobius, seven species of Telmatherina, and four alien species of the carp (Cyprinus carpio), louhan, gourami (Trichopodus trichopterus), and tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). The most common species of endemic fish is T. antoniae. Louhan is the result of a hybrid species Amphilopus citrinellus x Cichlasoma trimaculatum. The abundance of louhan is 64 in April and 40 fishes in August, respectively at a time caught. The percentage ratio of louhan to endemic fish was of 8.6% and 18.3%. This indicated that the louhan fish tend to be invasive and certainly threatened endemic fish survival in this lake. The maturity of gonads of louhan is in the level of I - IV that enables the fish to reproduce quickly

    Controllable Impregnation Via Inkjet Printing for the Fabrication of Solid Oxide Cell Air Electrodes

    The impregnation method has been considered as one of the most successful techniques for the fabrication of highly efficient electrodes for solid oxide fuel and electrolysis cells (SOCs) at the lab scale. However, because the impregnation is usually performed manually, its irreproducibility remains a major problem that can be solved by using controllable techniques, such as inkjet printing. In this paper, lanthanum strontium manganite (LSM)/yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) air electrodes were prepared by infiltrating YSZ porous bodies with LSM precursor solution using inkjet printing, followed by annealing at 800°C for 2 hours. XRD analysis confirmed the formation of the LSM phase, which was in the form of nanoparticles with size in the 50-70 nm range on the YSZ walls, as revealed by FEG-SEM observations. The effect of printing parameters on the distribution of the impregnated phase was investigated and is discussed.</p
