The Comparison of the Swift Gamma-Ray Bursts With and Without Measured Redshifts
Gamma-ray bursts, detected by the Swift satellite, are separated into two
samples: the bursts with and without determined redshifts. These two samples
are compared by the standard Student t-test and F-test. We have compared the
dispersions and the mean values of the durations, peak fluxes and fluences in
order to find any differences among these two samples. No essential differences
were found.Comment: Published in the Proceedings of the 4th Heidelberg International

On the Intermediate Subgroup of the Gamma-Ray Bursts in the Swift Database
A sample of 286 gamma-ray bursts, detected by Swift satellite, is studied
statistically by the chi^2 test and the Student t-test, respectively. The short
and long subgroups are well detected in the Swift data. But no intermediate
subgroup is seen. The non-detection of this subgroup in the Swift database can
be explained, once it is assumed that in the BATSE database the short and the
intermediate subgroups form a common subclass.Comment: Published in 4th Heidelberg International Symposium on High Energy

Social Media as an Online Buying Tool
The buying behavior of consumers has been greatly influenced by technology. Technology has created an environment of satisfaction for the consumers through their buying behavior. Technology has also led to the introduction of various social media platforms through which consumers can browse, read news, communicate with friends and family and most importantly, buy their products and services through the platforms. Social media being one of the biggest factors that has changed the buying behavior of the consumers through its models, theories and the abundant info ration that could be found in them when making a purchase. These factors are why online buying behavior of the consumers are on the increase and recently, it has been mostly preferable by consumers. As it is known that social media plays an important role in the online buying decisions of consumers, this research aims to understand how social media acts as a stimulus response to online buying and what are the actions that gets in the minds of the consumers that leads them to make an online purchase
Orthodontic treatment of patient with maxillofacial fibrous dysplasia : a case report
Fibrous dysplasia is a benign skeletal disorder in which the normal bone and marrow are replaced by fibrous tissue and haphazardly distributed woven bone. The aim of this case report is to discuss the orthodontic treatment of a 13-year-old patient with fibrous dysplasia in the left maxilla. The patient had rotated maxillary second premolars, moderate crowding in both maxillary and mandibular arches with low maxillary frenal attachment. Orthodontic treatment was done with full fixed appliance and extraction of maxillary and mandibular third molars. Maxillary frenectomy and free gingival graft in mandibular anterior region were performed by a periodontist. The oral and maxillofacial surgery team monitored fibrous dysplasia in the left maxilla on a yearly interval. There is very limited information about orthodontic management of patients with craniofacial fibrous dysplasia. This case report discusses the orthodontic treatment and the importance of interdisciplinary approach in the management of patient with maxillofacial fibrous dysplasia
A Search for Gamma-ray Burst Subgroups in the SWIFT and RHESSI Databases
A sample of 286 gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) detected by the Swift satellite and
358 GRBs detected by the RHESSI satellite are studied statistically. Previously
published articles, based on the BATSE GRB Catalog, claimed the existence of an
intermediate subgroup of GRBs with respect to duration. We use the statistical
chi^2 test and the F-test to compare the number of GRB subgroups in our
databases with the earlier BATSE results. Similarly to the BATSE database, the
short and long subgroups are well detected in the Swift and RHESSI data.
However, contrary to the BATSE data, we have not found a statistically
significant intermediate subgroup in either Swift or RHESSI data.Comment: Published in Proceedings of the 2008 Nanjing Gamma-ray Burst

Epidemiologic evaluation of Nhanes for environmental Factors and periodontal disease.
Periodontitis is a chronic inflammation that destroys periodontal tissues caused by the accumulation of bacterial biofilms that can be affected by environmental factors. This report describes an association study to evaluate the relationship of environmental factors to the expression of periodontitis using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Study (NHANES) from 1999-2004. A wide range of environmental variables (156) were assessed in patients categorized for periodontitis (n = 8884). Multiple statistical approaches were used to explore this dataset and identify environmental variable patterns that enhanced or lowered the prevalence of periodontitis. Our findings indicate an array of environmental variables were different in periodontitis in smokers, former smokers, or non-smokers, with a subset of specific environmental variables identified in each population subset. Discriminating environmental factors included blood levels of lead, phthalates, selected nutrients, and PCBs. Importantly, these factors were found to be coupled with more classical risk factors (i.e. age, gender, race/ethnicity) to create a model that indicated an increased disease prevalence of 2-4 fold across the sample population. Targeted environmental factors are statistically associated with the prevalence of periodontitis. Existing evidence suggests that these may contribute to altered gene expression and biologic processes that enhance inflammatory tissue destruction
