Compensation of Beer-Lambert attenuation using non-diffracting Bessel beams
We report on a versatile method to compensate the linear attenuation in a
medium, independently of its microscopic origin. The method exploits
diffraction-limited Bessel beams and tailored on-axis intensity profiles which
are generated using a phase-only spatial light modulator. This technique for
compensating one of the most fundamental limiting processes in linear optics is
shown to be efficient for a wide range of experimental conditions (modifying
the refractive index and the attenuation coefficient). Finally, we explain how
this method can be advantageously exploited in applications ranging from
bio-imaging light sheet microscopy to quantum memories for future quantum
communication networks
Antitumor immunostimulatory activity of the traditional Chinese medicine polysaccharide on hepatocellular carcinoma
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a prevalent malignancy, often associated with compromised immune function in affected patients. This can be attributed to the secretion of specific factors by liver cancer cells, which hinder the immune response and lead to a state of immune suppression. Polysaccharides derived from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) are valuable constituents known for their immunomodulatory properties. This review aims to look into the immunomodulatory effects of TCM polysaccharides on HCC. The immunomodulatory effects of TCM polysaccharides are primarily manifested through the activation of effector T lymphocytes, dendritic cells, NK cells, and macrophages against hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) both in vivo and in vitro settings. Furthermore, TCM polysaccharides have demonstrated remarkable adjuvant antitumor immunomodulatory effects on HCC in clinical settings. Therefore, the utilization of TCM polysaccharides holds promising potential for the development of novel therapeutic agents or adjuvants with advantageous immunomodulatory properties for HCC

Comparison of VP broadband tiltmeter and VS vertical pendulum tiltmeter
Vertical pendulum (VP) tiltmeter is a kind of earthquake precursor observation equipment, which is used to record the interaction force associated with astronomical tidal tilts caused. Currently, VP broadband tiltmeter and vertical sensor (VS) vertical pendulum tiltmeter are primarily used. In this paper, we compare the two different instruments by using four aspects—mechanical structure, circuitry, zeroing, and bandwidth—based on their working principles and applications. We conclude that VP broadband tiltmeter is more superior compared with VS vertical pendulum tiltmeter because of its higher bandwidth and degree of automation
