    The community structure and motif-modular-network hierarchy are of great importance for understanding the relationship between structures and functions. In this paper, we investigate the distribution of clique-degree, which is an extension of degree and can be used to measure the density of cliques in networks. The empirical studies indicate the extensive existence of power-law clique-degree distributions in various real networks, and the power-law exponent decreases with the increasing of clique size.Comment: 9 figures, 4 page

    Gap Anisotropy in Iron-Based Superconductors: A Point-Contact Andreev Reflection Study of BaFe2−x_{2-x}Nix_{x}As2_2 Single Crystals

    We report a systematic investigation on c-axis point-contact Andreev reflection (PCAR) in BaFe2−x_{2-x}Nix_xAs2_2 superconducting single crystals from underdoped to overdoped regions (0.075 ≤x≤0.15\leq x\leq 0.15). At optimal doping (x=0.1x=0.1) the PCAR spectrum feature the structures of two superconducting gap and electron-boson coupling mode. In the s±s\pm scenario, quantitative analysis using a generalized Blonder-Tinkham-Klapwijk (BTK) formalism with two gaps: one isotropic and another angle dependent, suggest a nodeless state in strong-coupling limit with gap minima on the Fermi surfaces. Upon crossing above the optimal doping (x>0.1x > 0.1), the PCAR spectrum show an in-gap sharp narrow peak at low bias, in contrast to the case of underdoped samples (x<0.1x < 0.1), signaling the onset of deepened gap minima or nodes in the superconducting gap. This result provides evidence of the modulation of the gap amplitude with doping concentration, consistent with the calculations for the orbital dependent pair interaction mediated by the antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

    Effects of Early Intervention With Maternal Fecal Bacteria and Antibiotics on Liver Metabolome and Transcription in Neonatal Pigs

    The establishment of a stable bacterial flora in early life is associated with host metabolism. Studies of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) and antibiotics on neonatal pig mainly focused on intestinal development and mucosal immunity, but the information on metabolism is lacking. The objective of this study was to investigate the responses of metabolome and transcriptome in the livers of neonatal piglets that were orally inoculated with maternal fecal bacteria suspension and amoxicillin (AM) solution. Five litters of Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire neonatal piglets were used as five replicates and nine piglets in each litter were randomly assigned to the control (CO), AM or FMT groups. Neonatal piglets in three groups were fed with 3 mL saline (0.9%), AM solution (6.94 mg/mL) or fecal bacteria suspension (&gt;109/mL), respectively, on days 1–6. At the age of 7 and 21 days, one piglet from each group in each litter was sacrificed, and the serum and liver were collected for analysis. The RNA sequencing analysis showed that the mRNA expressions of arachidonate 12-lipoxygenase (ALOX12), acetyl-CoA acyltransferase 2 (ACAA2), cytochrome P450 family 1 subfamily A member 2 (CYP1A2), glutamic–pyruvic transaminase 2 (GPT2) and argininosuccinate synthase 1 (ASS1) were downregulated (P &lt; 0.05) by AM on day 7, and that the mRNA expressions of arachidonate 15-lipoxygenase (ALOX15), CYP1A2 and GPT2 were downregulated (P &lt; 0.05) by FMT on day 7. GC-MS analysis showed that AM and FMT treatments mainly affected fatty acid metabolism and amino acid metabolism on days 7 and 21. AM and FMT both reduced (P &lt; 0.05) the blood levels of triglycerides and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) on day 7. AM reduced (P &lt; 0.05) the blood level of cholesterol on day 21, and FMT reduced the blood levels of cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL-C on day 21. These results indicate that early intervention with FMT or AM can reduce fatty acid oxidative catabolism and amino acid biosynthesis of neonatal piglets, which provides a reference for regulation host metabolism through early intervention in animal production and even human health

    Stray dogs as indicators of Toxoplasma gondii distributed in the environment: the first report across an urban-rural gradient in China

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Toxoplasmosis is an important parasitic zoonosis caused by the protozoan <it>Toxoplasma gondii </it>that is distributed world-wide and infects a variety of hosts. However, the prevalence of <it>T. gondii </it>in the environment (such as soil, water and food) is largely unknown. Due to the technical difficulty in oocyst counting directly, an alternative assay using the serologic status of <it>T. gondii </it>in free-living animals, such as stray or free-living dogs, as an indicator, can be used to evaluate environmental contamination indirectly, as they are exposed to the same risk of infection as humans and other animals.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>In the present study, 231 stray or free-living dogs across an urban-rural gradient were examined to assess the frequency of <it>T. gondii </it>in the environment. Specific antibodies to <it>T. gondii </it>were found in 93 dogs (40.3%) by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and no statistically significant differences were observed in seroprevalences of <it>T. gondii </it>between urban dogs (38.7%) and rural dogs (41%) (<it>p </it>> 0.05).</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>A high seroprevalence of <it>T. gondii </it>in stray or free-living dogs in the present study indicates that there would be a wide distribution and a constant infection pressure of <it>T. gondii </it>across an urban-rural gradient, and the oocysts of <it>T. gondii </it>in the environment would be an important source of infection for humans and other animals both in urban and rural areas in China.</p
