(E)-N′-(2,5-Dimethoxybenzylidene)-3,4-dihydroxybenzohydrazide monohydrate
In the title compound, C16H16N2O5·H2O, the dihedral angle between the two benzene rings is 25.9 (1)°. Intramolecular O—H⋯O and N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds are observed. In the crystal, the components are linked into a three-dimensional network by O—H⋯O and O—H⋯(O,O) hydrogen bonds
Microwave-assisted N-Arylation of Indoles via C(sp 2 )-N(sp 2 ) Bond Formation by Aromatic Nucleophilic Substitution Reactions
Microwave-assisted nucleophilic aromatic substitution on aryl halides with different indoles is described. Moderate to good yields are obtained in short reaction time (25 -40 min) when coupling indoles with fluoro-and chloro-substituted aryl halides under catalyst-free conditions
“They have it better there” : Chinese Migrant Teachers’ Beliefs, Imaginaries and Ideologies in Cross-national Comparisons
This paper was written in response to a growing need to address the perceptions and experiences of teachers of migrant background. Based on a critical intercultural theoretical perspective, which moves beyond typical ‘culture shock’ and ‘adaptation’ models of understanding and explaining migrants’ experiences, this paper makes use of the concepts of teacher beliefs, ideologies and imaginaries (Holliday, 2010) in considering how Finland-based Chinese migrant teachers perceive the position of being teachers of Chinese in Finland and Australia. Analysis of data from group discussions during a teacher training workshop indicates that these teachers constructed a “utopia” (Australia) and “dystopia” (Finland) Chinese language teaching, and reveals that multiple factors have influenced these migrant teachers’ perceptions and experiences. Findings provide information for e.g. teacher educators and stakeholders to better understand and support migrant teachers from various linguistic and cultural backgrounds.Peer reviewe
Dynamic Nonlinear Effect on Lasing in a Random Medium
We have studied both experimentally and numerically the dynamic effect of nonlinearity on lasing in disordered medium. The third-order nonlinearity not only changes the frequency and size of lasing modes, but also modifies the laser emission intensity and laser pulse width. When the nonlinear response time is longer than the lifetime of the lasing mode, the nonlinearity changes the laser output through modifying the size of the lasing mode. When the nonlinear response is faster than the buildup of the lasing mode, positive nonlinearity always extracts more laser emission from the random medium due to the enhancement of single particle scattering
2,4-Dibromo-6-[(hydroxyimino)methyl]phenol
In the title compound, C7H5Br4NO2, intramolecular O—H⋯N hydrogen bonds are observed. In the crystal structure, intermolecular O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the molecules into dimers

Coronavirus Spike Protein Inhibits Host Cell Translation by Interaction with eIF3f
In response to viral infection, the expression of numerous host genes, including predominantly a number of proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines, is usually up-regulated at both transcriptional and translational levels. It was noted that in cells infected with coronavirus, transcription and translation of some of these genes were differentially induced. Drastic induction of their expression at the transcriptional level was observed in cells infected with coronavirus. However, induction of the same genes at the translational level was usually found to be minimal to moderate. To investigate the underlying mechanisms, yeast two-hybrid screen was carried out using SARS-CoV proteins as baits, revealing that a subunit of the eukaryotic initiation factor 3 (eIF3), eIF3f, may interact with the N-terminal region of the SARS-CoV spike (S) protein. This interaction was subsequently confirmed by co-immunoprecipitation and immunofluorescent staining. Meanwhile, parallel experiments confirmed that eIF3f could also interact with the S protein of another coronavirus, the avian coronavirus infectious bronchitis virus (IBV). These interactions led to the inhibition of translation of a reporter gene in both in vitro expression system and intact cells. Interestingly, IBV-infected cells stably expressing a Flag-tagged eIF3f showed much higher translation of IL-6 and IL-8, suggesting that the interaction between coronavirus S protein and eIF3f plays a functional role in controlling the expression of host genes, especially genes that are induced during coronavirus infection cycles. This study reveals a novel mechanism exploited by coronavirus to regulate viral pathogenesis
ENAT-PT: An Enhanced NAT-PT Model
NAT-PT would allow IPv4 nodes to communicate with IPv6 nodes transparently by translating the IPv6 address into a registered V4 address. However, NAT-PT would fall flat when the pool of V4 addresses is exhausted. NAPT-PT multiplexes the registered address’ ports and will allow for a maximum of 63K outbound TCP and 63K UDP sessions per IPv4 address, but it is unidirectional. We present in this paper a novel solution ENAT-PT(an enhanced NAT-PT),which will allow for a great number of inbound sessions by using a single V4 address. By using ENAT-PT, we can visit V6 networks from a V4 network with a small address pool
