Simple Recurrent Units for Highly Parallelizable Recurrence
Common recurrent neural architectures scale poorly due to the intrinsic
difficulty in parallelizing their state computations. In this work, we propose
the Simple Recurrent Unit (SRU), a light recurrent unit that balances model
capacity and scalability. SRU is designed to provide expressive recurrence,
enable highly parallelized implementation, and comes with careful
initialization to facilitate training of deep models. We demonstrate the
effectiveness of SRU on multiple NLP tasks. SRU achieves 5--9x speed-up over
cuDNN-optimized LSTM on classification and question answering datasets, and
delivers stronger results than LSTM and convolutional models. We also obtain an
average of 0.7 BLEU improvement over the Transformer model on translation by
incorporating SRU into the architecture.Comment: EMNL
Spin Current and Shot Noise in Single-Molecule Quantum Dots with a Phonon Mode
In this paper we investigate the spin-current and its shot-noise spectrum in
a single-molecule quantum dot coupled with a local phonon mode. We pay special
attention on the effect of phonon on the quantum transport property. The
spin-polarization dependent current is generated by a rotating magnetic filed
applied in the quantum dot. Our results show the remarkable influence of phonon
mode on the zero-frequency shot noise. The electron-phonon interaction leads to
sideband peaks which are located exactly on the integer number of the phonon
frequency and moreover the peak-height is sensitive to the electron-phonon
coupling.Comment: 17 pages,5 figure
Single Impurity In Ultracold Fermi Superfluids
The role of impurities as experimental probes in the detection of quantum
material properties is well appreciated. Here we study the effect of a single
classical magnetic impurity in trapped ultracold Fermi superfluids. Depending
on its shape and strength, a magnetic impurity can induce single or multiple
mid-gap bound states in a superfluid Fermi gas. The multiple mid-gap states
could coincide with the development of a Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov
(FFLO) phase within the superfluid. As an analog of the Scanning Tunneling
Microscope, we propose a modified RF spectroscopic method to measure the local
density of states which can be employed to detect these states and other
quantum phases of cold atoms. A key result of our self consistent Bogoliubov-de
Gennes calculations is that a magnetic impurity can controllably induce an FFLO
state at currently accessible experimental parameters.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures; added calculations for 3
Fucosyltransferase 1 and 2 play pivotal roles in breast cancer cells.
FUT1 and FUT2 encode alpha 1, 2-fucosyltransferases which catalyze the addition of alpha 1, 2-linked fucose to glycans. Glycan products of FUT1 and FUT2, such as Globo H and Lewis Y, are highly expressed on malignant tissues, including breast cancer. Herein, we investigated the roles of FUT1 and FUT2 in breast cancer. Silencing of FUT1 or FUT2 by shRNAs inhibited cell proliferation in vitro and tumorigenicity in mice. This was associated with diminished properties of cancer stem cell (CSC), including mammosphere formation and CSC marker both in vitro and in xenografts. Silencing of FUT2, but not FUT1, significantly changed the cuboidal morphology to dense clusters of small and round cells with reduced adhesion to polystyrene and extracellular matrix, including laminin, fibronectin and collagen. Silencing of FUT1 or FUT2 suppressed cell migration in wound healing assay, whereas FUT1 and FUT2 overexpression increased cell migration and invasion in vitro and metastasis of breast cancer in vivo. A decrease in mesenchymal like markers such as fibronectin, vimentin, and twist, along with increased epithelial like marker, E-cadherin, was observed upon FUT1/2 knockdown, while the opposite was noted by overexpression of FUT1 or FUT2. As expected, FUT1 or FUT2 knockdown reduced Globo H, whereas FUT1 or FUT2 overexpression showed contrary effects. Exogenous addition of Globo H-ceramide reversed the suppression of cell migration by FUT1 knockdown but not the inhibition of cell adhesion by FUT2 silencing, suggesting that at least part of the effects of FUT1/2 knockdown were mediated by Globo H. Our results imply that FUT1 and FUT2 play important roles in regulating growth, adhesion, migration and CSC properties of breast cancer, and may serve as therapeutic targets for breast cancer
Localization of fermionic fields on braneworlds with bulk tachyon matter
Recently, Pal and Skar in [arXiv:hep-th/0701266] proposed a mechanism to
arise the warped braneworld models from bulk tachyon matter, which are endowed
with a thin brane and a thick brane. In this framework, we investigate
localization of fermionic fields on these branes. As in the 1/2 spin case, the
field can be localized on both the thin and thick branes with inclusion of
scalar background. In the 3/2 spin extension, the general supergravity action
coupled to chiral supermultiplets is considered to produce the localization on
both the branes as a result.Comment: 9 pages, no figure
The effect of different baryons impurities
We demonstrate the different effect of different baryons impurities on the
static properties of nuclei within the framework of the relativistic mean-field
model. Systematic calculations show that and has the
same attracting role as hyperon does in lighter hypernuclei.
and hyperon has the attracting role only for the protons
distribution, and has a repulsive role for the neutrons distribution. On the
contrary, and hyperon attracts surrounding neutrons and
reveals a repulsive force to the protons. We find that the different effect of
different baryons impurities on the nuclear core is due to the different third
component of their isospin.Comment: 9 page
