    The survival rate of out-of-cardiac arrest (OHCA) was very low, which was mainly due to the victims who do not receive cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) immediately. It was estimated that if people who quickly get chest compression-only CPR while awaiting medical treatment have double or even triple the chance of surviving. In the true world, many individuals are unwilling to do mouth-to-mouth breathing due to fear of infections or unable to do mouth-to-mouth breathing at the same time in the situation of only one bystander. This article has performed an extensive review in order to update the concept of chest compression-only CPR

    This paper presents a preliminary study into stiction between parylene C and substrate surfaces for biocompatible check-valve applications. During fabrication, parylene C is used as the structural material for the check-valve. The substrate surfaces studied include Au, Al, Si, parylene C, XeF_2 treated Si, and silicon dioxide. Stiction between different surfaces is created after sacrificial photoresist etching. Then, the stiction is measured using blister tests, and stiction mechanisms for different materials are investigated. The devices are released with different recipes to examine their effects. Finally, the results of the study reveal methods to control the cracking pressure of parylene check-valves

    Experimental investigation of the transverse nonlinear vibration of an axially travelling belt

    From an experimental perspective, this paper investigates the transverse vibrationpresent in an axially travelling belt undergoing uniform motion with constant travelling speed.Application of a control of the belt speed, using Matlab, a Code Composer Studio (CCS) and theavailable complementary embedded tools, a stepper motor DSP control was obtainedautomatically by using a graphical method to establish the stepper motor movement models withina Simulink environment. By changing the tension of the belt and the rotational speed of the steppermotor, the natural frequency of the travelling belt was studied. The response waveforms, spectralcontent and phase diagrams were obtained by measuring the transverse vibration displacementunder different conditions. A nonlinear model for the experimental moving belt system wasdeveloped and numerical solutions calculated. Subsequently, the nonlinear response behavior ofthis model were validated by the results of the experiment. It was shown that there were manyscenarios for which the system can exhibit periodic motion, chaotic motion and beat frequencyphenomena to be present and measured in the vibration of the axially travelling belt

    Does unemployment have asymmetric effects on suicide rates? Evidence from the United States: 1928–2013

    This study applied the recently developed asymmetric causality test and asymmetric generalised impulse-response method to demonstrate the dynamic relationship between unemployment and suicide rates in the U.S. over the period of 1928–2013. The results suggest that there exist asymmetric effects of unemployment on suicide rates. An economic recession (in terms of an increase in unemployment rate) is more likely to increase the suicide rate among an old age group (55–64 years old) than among other age groups, while an economic expansion (in terms of a decrease in unemployment rate) is more likely to reduce the suicide rate of young (15–24 and 25–34 years old) and middle age groups (35–44 and 45– 54 years old) than their counterpart. Therefore, policy implications generated from our results include the following: that intervention to prevent suicidal behaviour should be directed more towards the older age group during economic recession and that we may expect that an economic expansion may not result in a great reduction of suicide rates for the old age (55–64 years) group
