Inelastic production in polarized photon-hadron collisions
Presented here is a calculation of inelastic production in polarized
photon-hadron collisions under the framework of NRQCD factorization formalism.
We consider the photoproduction of \jpsi in the energy range relevant to
HERA. The Weizs\"acker-Williams approximation is adopted in the evaluation of
the cross sections for collisions. We found that this process can give
another independent test for the color-octet mechanism, and the different
features for the two color-octet processes may provide further informations on
the mechanism for inelastic \jpsi photoproduction. And the discrepancy on the
production asymmetry between various sets of polarized gluon distribution
functions is also found to be distinctive.Comment: 14pages, 6 PS figure
Narrow width of a glueball decay into two mesons
The widths of a glueball decay to two pions or kaons are analyzed in the pQCD
framework. Our results show that the glueball ground state has small branching
ratio for two-meson decay mode, which is around . The predicted values
are consistent with the data of if particle is a
glueball. Applicability of pQCD to the glueball decay and comparison
with decay are also discussed.Comment: 12 pages, revtex, 2 ps figure
Quantum radiation pressure on a moving mirror at finite temperature
We compute the radiation pressure force on a moving mirror, in the
nonrelativistic approximation, assuming the field to be at temperature At
high temperature, the force has a dissipative component proportional to the
mirror velocity, which results from Doppler shift of the reflected thermal
photons. In the case of a scalar field, the force has also a dispersive
component associated to a mass correction. In the electromagnetic case, the
separate contributions to the mass correction from the two polarizations
cancel. We also derive explicit results in the low temperature regime, and
present numerical results for the general case. As an application, we compute
the dissipation and decoherence rates for a mirror in a harmonic potential
well.Comment: Figure 3 replaced, changes mainly in Sections IV and V, new appendix

Multi-ancestry genome-wide association analyses improve resolution of genes and pathways influencing lung function and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease risk.
Lung-function impairment underlies chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and predicts mortality. In the largest multi-ancestry genome-wide association meta-analysis of lung function to date, comprising 580,869 participants, we identified 1,020 independent association signals implicating 559 genes supported by â„2 criteria from a systematic variant-to-gene mapping framework. These genes were enriched in 29 pathways. Individual variants showed heterogeneity across ancestries, age and smoking groups, and collectively as a genetic risk score showed strong association with COPD across ancestry groups. We undertook phenome-wide association studies for selected associated variants as well as trait and pathway-specific genetic risk scores to infer possible consequences of intervening in pathways underlying lung function. We highlight new putative causal variants, genes, proteins and pathways, including those targeted by existing drugs. These findings bring us closer to understanding the mechanisms underlying lung function and COPD, and should inform functional genomics experiments and potentially future COPD therapies
