Electrochemical determination of hydroquinone using hydrophobic ionic liquid-type carbon paste electrodes
Three types of carbon paste electrodes (CPEs) with different liquid binders were fabricated, and their electrochemical behavior was characterized via a potassium hexacyanoferrate(II) probe. 1-Octyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ionic liquid (IL) as a hydrophobic conductive pasting binder showed better electrochemical performance compared with the commonly employed binder. The IL-contained CPEs demonstrated excellent electroactivity for oxidation of hydroquinone. A diffusion control mechanism was confirmed and the diffusion coefficient (D) of 5.05 Ă— 10-4 cm2 s-1 was obtained. The hydrophobic IL-CPE is promising for the determination of hydroquinone in terms of high sensitivity, easy operation, and good durability

The HadGEM2 family of Met Office Unified Model climate configurations
We describe the HadGEM2 family of climate configurations of the Met Office Unified Model, MetUM. The concept of a model "family" comprises a range of specific model configurations incorporating different levels of complexity but with a common physical framework. The HadGEM2 family of configurations includes atmosphere and ocean components, with and without a vertical extension to include a well-resolved stratosphere, and an Earth-System (ES) component which includes dynamic vegetation, ocean biology and atmospheric chemistry. The HadGEM2 physical model includes improvements designed to address specific systematic errors encountered in the previous climate configuration, HadGEM1, namely Northern Hemisphere continental temperature biases and tropical sea surface temperature biases and poor variability. Targeting these biases was crucial in order that the ES configuration could represent important biogeochemical climate feedbacks. Detailed descriptions and evaluations of particular HadGEM2 family members are included in a number of other publications, and the discussion here is limited to a summary of the overall performance using a set of model metrics which compare the way in which the various configurations simulate present-day climate and its variability
Association of creatin kinase B and peroxiredoxin 2 expression with age and embryo quality in cumulus cells
The purpose of this study was to identify age-related oocyte or embryo markers suitable for non-invasive analysis, as women over 38 years of age experience diminished pregnancy and ovulation rates. We used real-time quantitative PCR to examine the gene expression profiles in cumulus cells acquired from older and younger age groups. We selected 11 genes involved in three functions that directly affect cellular aging: cell cycle control, apoptosis, and metabolism. CKB and PRDX2 were up-regulated in women older than 38 years, and the expression of these genes in cumulus cells was associated with embryo quality. In good-quality embryos, CKB expression was higher in the cumulus cells acquired from both older and younger age groups than in poor-quality embryos. These potential relationships among cumulus cell gene expression, oocyte quality, and age may expand our understanding of oogenesis and embryo development. CKB and PRDX2 may serve as biomarkers or therapeutic targets for the developmental potential of oocytes
