    Die chinesisch-russischen Beziehungen 2009 und 2010: Eine Sicht aus China

    2009 war ein wichtiges Jahr für die russisch-chinesischen Beziehungen. Insbesondere sechs Ereignisse und Entwicklungen waren von Bedeutung: Der 60. Jahrestag der chinesisch-russischen Beziehungen, eine breitere wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit, die Versenkung des Frachtschiffs New Star, die Schließung des Tscherkisow-Markts, die Entstehung des G2-Konzepts und die Eröffnung der Gaspipeline von Zentralasien nach China. Diese Ereignisse zeigen eine Normalisierung der russisch-chinesischen Beziehungen an, die auf beiden Seiten mit einer wachsenden Bereitschaft einhergeht, sich gegenseitig zu kritisieren oder zu loben ohne dadurch eine Schädigung der Beziehungen zu fürchten. Es kann also von stabilen Beziehungen mit dem Potential zu weiterer Ausweitung ausgegangen werden

    CTM Based Real-Time Queue Length Estimation at Signalized Intersection

    Queue length is an important index of the efficiency of urban transport system. The traditional approaches seem insufficient for the estimation of the queue length when the traffic state fluctuates greatly. In this paper, the problem is solved by introducing the Cell Transmission Model, a macroscopic traffic flow, to describe the vehicles aggregation and discharging process at a signalized intersection. To apply the model to urban traffic appropriately, some of its rules were improved accordingly. Besides, we can estimate the density of each cell of the road in a short time interval. We, first, identify the cell, where the tail of the queue is located. Then, we calculate the exact location of the rear of the queue. The models are evaluated by comparing the estimated maximum queue length and average queue length with the results of simulation calibrated by field data and testing of queue tail trajectories. The results show that the proposed model can estimate the maximum and average queue length, as well as the real-time queue length with satisfactory accuracy

    Knock Suppression of a Spark-Ignition Aviation Piston Engine Fuelled with Kerosene

    Spark-ignition (SI) engine has a high power density, making it suitable for unmanned aerial vehicles. Normally, gasoline fuel with a high octane number (ON) is used for a spark-ignition engine. However, gasoline fuel is easy to be evaporated and has a low flash point which is unsafe for aviation engines. Kerosene with a high flash point is safer than gasoline. In this chapter, the combustion characteristics of kerosene for a spark-ignition aviation piston engine are analyzed. A three-dimensional (3D) model is setup, and the combustion process of the engine fuelled with kerosene is simulated. Later, the knock limit extension by water injection is evaluated experimentally. The results indicate that water injection can suppress the knock of SI engine with kerosene in some extent and the output power can be improved significantly

    Behavioral Responses of Apis mellifera Adult Workers to Odors from Healthy Brood and Diseased Brood

    Studies of adult workers’ responses to infected brood were undertaken to isolate discrete volatile compounds that elicited honeybee hygienic behavior. Using a freeze-killed brood assay, we determined that in healthy colonies adult workers recognized and emptied infected cells with a 95% clearance rate. SPME-GC-MS results emptied >95% infected cells indicated differences in the composition and relative content of volatile compounds released by healthy and diseased brood. Additionally, we determined that the main volatile compound released from the pathogen Ascosphaera apis was phenethyl alcohol. The Y-tube olfactometer indicated that 10- to 20-day-old workers of healthy colonies, but only 15-day-old workers of diseased colonies, were significantly sensitive to differences in characteristic volatile compounds. This information could facilitate honey bee selection based on mechanisms that contribute to chalkbrood disease tolerance

    Conforming an Extracorporeal Lithotripter System for Video Urodynamic Studies

    Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency using existing fluoroscopic unit and lithotripter table of an extracorporeal lithotripter system for video urodynamic studies (VUDS) to determine anatomical abnormalities in patients with neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD). Methods: The extracorporeal lithotripsy system was adapted to obtain optimum fluoroscopic view according to body shape and observed organs of patients. We reviewed the VUDS data of 25 patients with NLUTD. Results: “Christmas tree bladder” (CTB) was found in 5 (20%) patients. Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) and external detrusor sphincter dyssynergia (DESD) were detected in 3 (12%) and 4 (16%) patients, respectively. Four (16%) patients with normal coordination between detrusor contraction and external sphincter relaxation were proven by VUDS. CTB, VUR, or DESD was not observed in 10 (40%) patients with flaccid bladder. Hematuria, urinary tract infection, or autonomic dysreflexia did not occur in any of the patients. Conclusions: VUDS can discern anatomical abnormalities of the urinary tract, and patients in undeveloped areas of the world who have NLUTD can have easier access to VUDS because of the decreasing capital cost of VUDS

    Design of Integrated Limited-Stop and Short-Turn Services for a Bus Route

    As a major choice for daily travel, public transit plays an important role in transporting passengers, thus relieving congestion on urban transit routes. In high-demand bus networks, urban transit demand presents imbalance of use of urban bus corridors. The demand patterns in both directions are asymmetric. In this paper, we develop a model which calculates the network and transportation costs in terms of wait time, in-vehicle travel time, and operator costs. We propose an integrated strategy, with an integrated limited-stop and short-turn line, by adjusting a variety of frequencies to meet the unbalanced and asymmetric demand. To minimize these costs, a model with a genetic algorithm can determine frequencies and the proper stations which can be skipped, as well as where turning back can occur, given an origin-destination trip matrix. Numerical examples are optimized to test the availability of an integrated service by minimizing the objective function, and the results are analyzed. Our results show that integrated service patterns can be adjusted to meet the demand under different conditions. In addition, the optimized schemes of an integrated service and the frequencies derived from the model can significantly reduce total cost

    Temperature biases in modeled polar climate and adoption of physical parameterization schemes

    An annual cycle of atmospheric variations for 1989 in the Arctic has been simulated with the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model. A severe cold bias was found around a cold center in surface air temperature over the Arctic Ocean, compared with results from ERA-Interim reanalysis. Four successive numerical experiments have been carried out to find out the reasons for this. The results show that the sea ice albedo scheme has the biggest influence in summer, and the effect of the cloud microphysics scheme is significant in both summer and winter. The effect of phase transition between ice and water has the biggest influence over the region near the sea ice edge in summer, and contributes little to improvement of the severe cold bias. The original crude albedo parameterization in the surface process scheme is the main reason for the large simulated cold bias of the cold center in summer. With a different land surface scheme than in the control run, cold biases of simulated surface air temperature over the Arctic Ocean are greatly reduced, by as much as 10 K, implying that the land surface scheme is critical for polar climate simulation

    Genome-Wide Expression Analysis in Down Syndrome: Insight into Immunodeficiency

    Down syndrome (DS) is caused by triplication of Human chromosome 21 (Hsa21) and associated with an array of deleterious phenotypes, including mental retardation, heart defects and immunodeficiency. Genome-wide expression patterns of uncultured peripheral blood cells are useful to understanding of DS-associated immune dysfunction. We used a Human Exon microarray to characterize gene expression in uncultured peripheral blood cells derived from DS individuals and age-matched controls from two age groups: neonate (N) and child (C). A total of 174 transcript clusters (gene-level) with eight located on Hsa21 in N group and 383 transcript clusters including 56 on Hsa21 in C group were significantly dysregulated in DS individuals. Microarray data were validated by quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Functional analysis revealed that the dysregulated genes in DS were significantly enriched in two and six KEGG pathways in N and C group, respectively. These pathways included leukocyte trans-endothelial migration, B cell receptor signaling pathway and primary immunodeficiency, etc., which causally implicated dysfunctional immunity in DS. Our results provided a comprehensive picture of gene expression patterns in DS at the two developmental stages and pointed towards candidate genes and molecular pathways potentially associated with the immune dysfunction in DS
