Evaluating e-portfolio Using by Learning Stages: A Case Study in an Interdisciplinary Program
This study conducts an investigation of posts in the e-portfolio platform of the program: âThe interdisciplinary training program for talented college students in science.â Participants in this program were supposed to show their learning portfolios on this platform. Among the 2150 registered students, we randomly selected 126 students who have made at least 3 posts to become the target sample. By identifying the learning stages and posting styles shown by their posts, we find that students are mostly in the surface learning stages and weak in completing their learning portfolios. The results suggest that more strategies should be learned in e-portfolio use. In addition, some related issues about learning performance are also discussed
Search for Invisible Decays of and in and
Using a data sample of decays collected with the BES
II detector at the BEPC, searches for invisible decays of and
in to and are performed.
The signals, which are reconstructed in final states, are used
to tag the and decays. No signals are found for the
invisible decays of either or , and upper limits at the 90%
confidence level are determined to be for the ratio
and for . These are the first
searches for and decays into invisible final states.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures; Added references, Corrected typo
Computing the first eigenpair of the p-Laplacian via inverse iteration of sublinear supersolutions
We introduce an iterative method for computing the first eigenpair
for the -Laplacian operator with homogeneous Dirichlet
data as the limit of as , where
is the positive solution of the sublinear Lane-Emden equation
with same boundary data. The method is
shown to work for any smooth, bounded domain. Solutions to the Lane-Emden
problem are obtained through inverse iteration of a super-solution which is
derived from the solution to the torsional creep problem. Convergence of
to is in the -norm and the rate of convergence of
to is at least . Numerical evidence is
presented.Comment: Section 5 was rewritten. Jed Brown was added as autho
Observation of Two New N* Peaks in J/psi -> and Decays
The system in decays of is limited to be
isospin 1/2 by isospin conservation. This provides a big advantage in studying
compared with and experiments which mix
isospin 1/2 and 3/2 for the system. Using 58 million decays
collected with the Beijing Electron Positron Collider, more than 100 thousand
events are obtained. Besides two well known
peaks at 1500 MeV and 1670 MeV, there are two new, clear peaks in
the invariant mass spectrum around 1360 MeV and 2030 MeV. They are the
first direct observation of the peak and a long-sought "missing"
peak above 2 GeV in the invariant mass spectrum. A simple
Breit-Wigner fit gives the mass and width for the peak as MeV and MeV, and for the new peak above 2 GeV
as MeV and MeV, respectively
Semileptonic decays of , , and
Stimulated by recent observations of the excited bottom-strange mesons
and , we calculate the semileptonic decays , which is relevant for the exploration of the
potential of searching these semileptonic decays in experiment.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures, 9 tables. More discussion added, some
descriptions changed. The version to appear in EPJ
The ARGO-YBJ Experiment Progresses and Future Extension
Gamma ray source detection above 30TeV is an encouraging approach for finding
galactic cosmic ray origins. All sky survey for gamma ray sources using wide
field of view detector is essential for population accumulation for various
types of sources above 100GeV. To target the goals, the ARGO-YBJ experiment has
been established. Significant progresses have been made in the experiment. A
large air shower detector array in an area of 1km2 is proposed to boost the
sensitivity. Hybrid detection with multi-techniques will allow a good
discrimination between different types of primary particles, including photons
and protons, thus enable an energy spectrum measurement for individual specie.
Fluorescence light detector array will extend the spectrum measurement above
100PeV where the second knee is located. An energy scale determined by balloon
experiments at 10TeV will be propagated to ultra high energy cosmic ray
experiments
Study of J/psi decays to Lambda Lambdabar and Sigma0 Sigma0bar
The branching ratios and Angular distributions for J/psi decays to Lambda
Lambdabar and Sigma0 Sigma0bar are measured using BESII 58 million J/psi.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figure
Measurements of J/psi Decays into 2(pi+pi-)eta and 3(pi+pi-)eta
Based on a sample of 5.8X 10^7 J/psi events taken with the BESII detector,
the branching fractions of J/psi--> 2(pi+pi-)eta and J/psi-->3(pi+pi-)eta are
measured for the first time to be (2.26+-0.08+-0.27)X10^{-3} and
(7.24+-0.96+-1.11)X10^{-4}, respectively.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure
Search for the Rare Decays J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e, J/Psi --> D- e+ nu_e, and J/Psi --> D0bar e+ e-
We report on a search for the decays J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c., J/Psi -->
D- e+ nu_e + c.c., and J/Psi --> D0bar e+ e- + c.c. in a sample of 5.8 * 10^7
J/Psi events collected with the BESII detector at the BEPC. No excess of signal
above background is observed, and 90% confidence level upper limits on the
branching fractions are set: B(J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c.)<4.8*10^-5, B(J/Psi
--> D- e+ nu_e + c.c.) D0bar e+ e- + c.c.)<1.1*10^-5Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure
