    De facto currency baskets of China and East Asian economies: The rising weights

    We employ Bayesian method to estimate a time-varying coefficient version of the de facto currency basket model of Frankel and Wei (2007) for the RMB of China, using daily data from February 2005 to July 2011. We estimate jointly the implicit time-varying weights of all 11 currencies in the reference basket announced by the Chinese government. We find the dollar weight has been reduced and sometimes significantly smaller than one, but there is no evidence of systematic operation of a currency basket with discernable pattern of significant weights on other currencies. During specific periods, the reduced dollar weight has not been switched to other major international currencies, but to some East Asian currencies, which is hard to explain by trade importance to or trade competition with China. We examine currency baskets of these East Asian Economies, including major international currencies and the RMB in their baskets. We find an evident tendency of Malaysia and Singapore to increase the weights of RMB in their own currency baskets, and a steadily and significantly positive weight of RMB in the basket of Thailand. These evidences suggest that, the positive weights of some East Asian currencies in RMB currency basket during specific periods largely reflect the fact that these East Asia economies have been systematically placing greater weights on RMB under the new regime of RMB exchange rate.RMB currency basket; time-varying regressions; East Asia; China; US

    An Empirical Analysis on Purchase Intention on Coffee Beverage in Taiwan

    Coffee is the most popular beverage in the world. However, in Taiwan, coffee is a second option for beverage choice after tea, which is the traditional beverage of this nation. Under the impact of Western culture, the habit of Taiwanese on beverage has become gradually change. In the recent years, the rapid growth of the various coffee supply channels such as coffee shop, coffee chains, fast food restaurants and convenience stores has assisted in creating a huge market for consumption coffee. Thus, understanding consumer’s habit on coffee purchasing in non-coffee drinking habit market is crucial. It can offer some important information for coffee suppliers to formulate their market strategies in Taiwan. Therefore, in this study, the determinants of Taiwanese coffee drinker in purchasing coffee are defined. Results from 260 respondents were analysed by exploratory factor analysis and regression analysis. The findings demonstrate that brand & price, product image, promotion & advertising, motivation, atmosphere & environment and taste are critical factors which impact on coffee drinker’s purchase intention. Among that, promotion & advertising plays the principal role to attract customers. Therefore, in order to create competitive advantages in the coffee beverage industry, the actions of promotion and advertising should be strong by coffee supplier. Besides, how to produce high quality of coffee beverages and maintain to meet the requirements of drinker's for good flavor and taste also must be considered.     Detecting Violations of Differential Privacy for Quantum Algorithms

    Quantum algorithms for solving a wide range of practical problems have been proposed in the last ten years, such as data search and analysis, product recommendation, and credit scoring. The concern about privacy and other ethical issues in quantum computing naturally rises up. In this paper, we define a formal framework for detecting violations of differential privacy for quantum algorithms. A detection algorithm is developed to verify whether a (noisy) quantum algorithm is differentially private and automatically generate bugging information when the violation of differential privacy is reported. The information consists of a pair of quantum states that violate the privacy, to illustrate the cause of the violation. Our algorithm is equipped with Tensor Networks, a highly efficient data structure, and executed both on TensorFlow Quantum and TorchQuantum which are the quantum extensions of famous machine learning platforms -- TensorFlow and PyTorch, respectively. The effectiveness and efficiency of our algorithm are confirmed by the experimental results of almost all types of quantum algorithms already implemented on realistic quantum computers, including quantum supremacy algorithms (beyond the capability of classical algorithms), quantum machine learning models, quantum approximate optimization algorithms, and variational quantum eigensolvers with up to 21 quantum bits

    FurinDB: A Database of 20-Residue Furin Cleavage Site Motifs, Substrates and Their Associated Drugs

    FurinDB (freely available online at http://www.nuolan.net/substrates.html) is a database of furin substrates. This database includes experimentally verified furin cleavage sites, substrates, species, experimental methods, original publications of experiments and associated drugs targeting furin substrates. The current database release contains 126 furin cleavage sites from three species: mammals, bacteria and viruses. A main feature of this database is that all furin cleavage sites are recorded as a 20-residue motif, including one core region (eight amino acids, P6–P2′) and two flanking solvent accessible regions (eight amino acids, P7–P14, and four amino acids, P3′–P6′), that represent our current understanding of the molecular biology of furin cleavage. This database is important for understanding the molecular evolution and relationships between sequence motifs, 3D structures, cellular functions and physical properties required by furin for cleavage, and for elucidating the molecular mechanisms and the progression of furin cleavage associated human diseases, including pathogenic infections, neurological disorders, tumorigenesis, tumor invasion, angiogenesis, and metastasis. FurinDB database will be a solid addition to the publicly available infrastructure for scientists in the field of molecular biology

    Applying the Berberine-Pretreated Filter for Inactivating Bioaerosols

    This work considers the effects of using the berberine pretreated filters (BPFs) as the antiseptic filters on the bioaerosol penetration. Two concentrations of berberine solutions were used to coat on the polypropylene fibrous filter. The Escherichia coli (E. coli), and Bacillus subtilis (B. subtilis) bioaerosols were generated using a Collison nebulizer, as the challenged bioaerosols. The effects of various factors, including the face velocity and the relative humidity on the bioaerosol collection characteristics were evaluated. Experimental results suggested the pretreatment of berberine did have an antiseptic effect on bacteria bioaerosol and increase the inactivation mechanism. The filter pretreated with a higher concentration of berberine has a stronger antiseptic effect on bioaerosols. The culturable survival of E. coli bioaerosols through the untreated filter, the 0.002 wt%, and 0.02 wt% BPFs are around 68%, 43% and 36%, respectively. In addition, the culturable survival of B. subtilis bioaerosols through the 0.002 wt%, and 0.02 wt% BPFs are around 66%, 51% and 43%, respectively. Moreover, the culturable survival of E. coli bioaerosol through the 0.002 wt% BPFs increased from 43% to 54% as the face velocity increased from 10 to 30 cm/s. These results indicated that the antiseptic of the BPFs decreased with face velocity

    The purpose of this study were to evaluate the different of knee kinematics analysis after ACLD and ACLR during landing performances. The participants were instructed to finish counter moment jump (CMJ) with arms free 5 times as hard as possible with Vicon motion system and two force platforms. The ACLD showed a significant less knee flexion degree at the peak vertical GRF compared with others. Our founding was similar to the present studies; the impulse during landing among three groups was almost the same, but the RF EMG showed lower after two ACL groups, especially in ACLD
