    Transverse momentum dependence in the perturbative calculation of pion form factor

    By reanalysing transverse momentum dependence in the perturbative calculation of pion form factor an improved expression of pion form factor which takes into account the transverse momentum dependenc in hard scattering amplitude and intrinsic transverse momentum dependence associated with pion wave functions is given to leading order, which is available for momentum transfers of the order of a few GeV as well as for Q→∞Q \to \infty.     We establish a connection between the agegraphic models of dark energy and Chaplygin gas energy density in non-flat universe. We reconstruct the potential of the agegraphic scalar field as well as the dynamics of the scalar field according to the evolution of the agegraphic dark energy.     Holographic Dark Energy Characterized by the Total Comoving Horizon and Insights to Cosmological Constant and Coincidence Problem

    The observed acceleration of the present universe is shown to be well explained by the holographic dark energy characterized by the total comoving horizon of the universe (η\etaHDE). It is of interest to notice that the very large primordial part of the comoving horizon generated by the inflation of early universe makes the η\etaHDE behave like a cosmological constant. As a consequence, both the fine-tuning problem and the coincidence problem can reasonably be understood with the inflationary universe and holographical principle. We present a systematic analysis and obtain a consistent cosmological constraint on the η\etaHDE model based on the recent cosmological observations. It is found that the η\etaHDE model gives the best-fit result Ωm0=0.270\Omega_{m0}=0.270 (Ωde0=0.730\Omega_{de0}=0.730) and the minimal χmin2=542.915\chi^2_{min}=542.915 which is compatible with χΛCDM2=542.919\chi^2_{\Lambda {\rm CDM}}=542.919 for the Λ\LambdaCDM model.Comment: 17 pages, 4 figures, two eqs.     A Two-Component Explosion Model for the Giant Flare and Radio Afterglow from SGR1806-20

    The brightest giant flare from the soft γ\gamma-ray repeater (SGR) 1806-20 was detected on 2004 December 27. The isotropic-equivalent energy release of this burst is at least one order of magnitude more energetic than those of the two other SGR giant flares. Starting from about one week after the burst, a very bright (∼80\sim 80 mJy), fading radio afterglow was detected. Follow-up observations revealed the multi-frequency light curves of the afterglow and the temporal evolution of the source size. Here we show that these observations can be understood in a two-component explosion model. In this model, one component is a relativistic collimated outflow responsible for the initial giant flare and the early afterglow, and another component is a subrelativistic wider outflow responsible for the late afterglow.     Micromachined Millimetre-Wave Passive Components at 38 and 77 GHz

    A precision micro-fabrication technique has been developed for millimetre-wave components of air-filled three-dimensional structures, such as rectangular coaxial lines or waveguides. The devices are formed by bonding several layers of micromachining defined slices with a thickness of a few hundred micrometres. The slices are thickphotoresist SU8 defined by photolithography, or silicon with a pattern defined by deep reactive ion etching; both are coated with gold by evaporation. The process is simple, and low-cost, as compared with conventional precision metal machining, but yields mm-wave components with good performance. The components are light weight and truly airfilled with no dielectric support. This paper reviews several of these micromachined mm-wave components at 38 and 77 GHz for communications and radar applications

    Overall Evolution of Realistic Gamma-ray Burst Remnant and Its Afterglow

    Conventional dynamic model of gamma-ray burst remnants is found to be incorrect for adiabatic blastwaves during the non-relativistic phase. A new model is derived, which is shown to be correct for both radiative and adiabatic blastwaves during both ultra-relativistic and non-relativistic phase. Our model also takes the evolution of the radiative efficiency into account.     In vitro Culture of Several Rice Cultivars

    Tissue culture methods have been established to regenerate certain rice (Oryza sativa L) cultivars, but regeneration of the rice cultivars widely grown in Arkansas has not been reported. This study has established an in vitroculture for the rice cultivars \u27Nortai\u27, \u27Starbonnet\u27, \u27Mars\u27, Tebonnet\u27, \u27Newbonnet\u27, and \u27Lemont\u27. Callus was induced in the dark at either 20 or 28 C from dehusked seeds cultured on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium (Murashige and Skoog, 1962) containing 40 g L^-1 sucrose, 10 g L^1 agar, 0.5, 1.0, or 2.0 mg L^-1 1 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and adjusted to pH 5.7. After four weeks the calli were weighed, transferred onto MS medium containing no 2,4-D, and maintained in a 1 2-h photoperiod (65 uE m^-2 s^-1) at 25 ± 2 C to induce plant regeneration. Callus production was best when cultured on a medium containing 1.0 mg L^-1 2,4-D and incubated at 28 C. Plant regeneration was observed two to four weeks later. The percentage of calli regenerating platlets varied with the cultivar and the callus induction treatment. Callus induction at 20 C on a medium with a 2,4-D level less than 2.0 mg L^-1 enhanced the regenerability of most cultivars. Regenerates were transplanted to soil and grow normally to maturity. This system can be helpful in improving rice cultivars with tissue culture techniques such as somaclonal variant selection and somatic hybridization
