Three-Way Entanglement and Three-Qubit Phase Gate Based on a Coherent Six-Level Atomic System
We analyze the nonlinear optical response of a six-level atomic system under
a configuration of electromagnetically induced transparency. The giant
fifth-order nonlinearity generated in such a system with a relatively large
cross-phase modulation effect can produce efficient three-way entanglement and
may be used for realizing a three-qubit quantum phase gate. We demonstrate that
such phase gate can be transferred to a Toffoli gate, facilitating practical
applications in quantum information and computation.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figure
Cancellation of Infrared Divergences in Hadronic Annihilation Decays of Heavy Quarkonia
In the framework of a newly developed factorization formalism which is based
on NRQCD, explicit cancellations are shown for the infrared divergences that
appeared in the previously calculated hadronic annihilation decay rates of
P-wave and D-wave heavy quarkonia. We extend them to a more general case that
to leading order in and next-to-leading order in , the infrared
divergences in the annihilation amplitudes of color-singlet
pair can be removed by including the contributions of
color-octet operators ,
, ... in NRQCD. We also give the decay widths of
at leading order in .Comment: 8 pages, LaTex(3 figures included), to be publishe
Updates in the Clinical Development of Epacadostat and Other Indoleamine 2,3-Dioxygenase 1 Inhibitors (IDO1) for Human Cancers
Recent application of immunotherapy in clinical oncology revolutionized our management of advanced human cancers. Check point inhibitors targeting CTLA4 and PD-1/PD-L1 axis are immunotherapeutic agents currently available to treat a variety of cancers. However, a novel therapeutic approach is needed to further improve patient outcome with these agents. Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) is a rate-limiting enzyme in the metabolism of essential amino acid tryptophan in the peripheral tissue. IDO1 is overexpressed in human cancer cells and suppresses effector T cell function and promotes regulatory T cells (Tregs). Overexpression of IDO1 is associated with poor patient survival in several types of human cancer. These findings indicate that IDO1 is a promising target that can improve the treatment outcome in the field of Immuno-oncology. Several orally available IDO1 inhibitors including Epacadostat have entered human clinical trials over the last few years without a major safety concern. Although there is no objective response in single-agent trials, combination regimens with PD-1 inhibitors appear to exceed the activity of PD-1 inhibitors alone. Recent phase III ECHO 301 trial testing the combination of Epacadostat with Pembrolizumab in melanoma did not show superior outcome compared to Pembrolizumab alone. This lead to halting of other phase III trials using IDO1 inhibitors. In this minireview, we will discuss the recent clinical development of Epacadostat and other IDO1 inhibitors
On the uniqueness of the non-minimal matter coupling in massive gravity and bigravity
In de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley (dRGT) massive gravity and bigravity, a
non-minimal matter coupling involving both metrics generically re-introduces
the Boulware--Deser (BD) ghost. A non-minimal matter coupling via a simple, yet
specific composite metric has been proposed, which eliminates the BD ghost
below the strong coupling scale. Working explicitly in the metric formulation
and for arbitrary spacetime dimensions, we show that this composite metric is
the unique consistent non-minimal matter coupling below the strong coupling
scale, which emerges out of two diagnostics, namely, absence of Ostrogradski
ghosts in the decoupling limit and absence of the BD ghost from matter quantum
loop corrections.Comment: v2: references added, matches accepted version in Physics Letters B

From insulator to quantum Hall liquid at low magnetic fields
We have performed low-temperature transport measurements on a GaAs
two-dimensional electron system at low magnetic fields. Multiple
temperature-independent points and accompanying oscillations are observed in
the longitudinal resistivity between the low-field insulator and the quantum
Hall (QH) liquid. Our results support the existence of an intermediate regime,
where the amplitudes of magneto-oscillations can be well described by
conventional Shubnikov-de Haas theory, between the low-field insulator and QH
liquid.Comment: Magneto-oscillations governed by Shubnikov-de Haas theory are
observed between the low-field insulator and quantum Hall liqui
On determination of the geometric cosmological constant from the OPERA experiment of superluminal neutrinos
The recent OPERA experiment of superluminal neutrinos has deep consequences
in cosmology. In cosmology a fundamental constant is the cosmological constant.
From observations one can estimate the effective cosmological constant
which is the sum of the quantum zero point energy
and the geometric cosmological constant . The
OPERA experiment can be applied to determine the geometric cosmological
constant . It is the first time to distinguish the contributions of
and from each other by experiment. The
determination is based on an explanation of the OPERA experiment in the
framework of Special Relativity with de Sitter space-time symmetry.Comment: 7 pages, no figure
Newton-Hooke Limit of Beltrami-de Sitter Spacetime, Principles of Galilei-Hooke's Relativity and Postulate on Newton-Hooke Universal Time
Based on the Beltrami-de Sitter spacetime, we present the Newton-Hooke model
under the Newton-Hooke contraction of the spacetime with respect to the
transformation group, algebra and geometry. It is shown that in Newton-Hooke
space-time, there are inertial-type coordinate systems and inertial-type
observers, which move along straight lines with uniform velocity. And they are
invariant under the Newton-Hooke group. In order to determine uniquely the
Newton-Hooke limit, we propose the Galilei-Hooke's relativity principle as well
as the postulate on Newton-Hooke universal time. All results are readily
extended to the Newton-Hooke model as a contraction of Beltrami-anti-de Sitter
spacetime with negative cosmological constant.Comment: 25 pages, 3 figures; some misprints correcte
Gravity waves over topographical bottoms: Comparison with the experiment
In this paper, the propagation of water surface waves over one-dimensional
periodic and random bottoms is investigated by the transfer matrix method. For
the periodic bottoms, the band structure is calculated, and the results are
compared to the transmission results. When the bottoms are randomized, the
Anderson localization phenomenon is observed. The theory has been applied to an
existing experiment (Belzons, et al., J. Fluid Mech. {\bf 186}, 530 (1988)). In
general, the results are compared favorably with the experimental observation.Comment: 15 pages, 7 figure
A note on Zolotarev optimal rational approximation for the overlap Dirac operator
We discuss the salient features of Zolotarev optimal rational approximation
for the inverse square root function, in particular, for its applications in
lattice QCD with overlap Dirac quark. The theoretical error bound for the
matrix-vector multiplication is derived. We check that
the error bound is always satisfied amply, for any QCD gauge configurations we
have tested. An empirical formula for the error bound is determined, together
with its numerical values (by evaluating elliptic functions) listed in Table 2
as well as plotted in Figure 3. Our results suggest that with Zolotarev
approximation to , one can practically preserve the exact
chiral symmetry of the overlap Dirac operator to very high precision, for any
gauge configurations on a finite lattice.Comment: 23 pages, 5 eps figures, v2:minor clarifications, and references
