Challenges Facing East Asian Immigrant Children in Sexual Abuse Cases
Immigrants from East Asia make up 14.21% of the total number of immigrants in Canada. These families face many challenges as they acculturate to North America but, sadly, some of these children may be at risk for sexual abuse. In this position paper, we outline the ways in which East Asian children are at a particular disadvantage when considering prosecution of those who perpetrate abuse compared to Western non-immigrant children. We focus specifically on two areas of concern: 1) Cultural differences that can impact the disclosure of sexual abuse; and, 2) Language differences which reduce the chances that perpetrators will be prosecuted for sexual abuse. The consequences for East Asian immigrant youth who allege (or are suspected) that they are victims of abuse are serious. East Asian children face an uphill battle to see justice in sexual abuse cases. Thus, a significant portion of immigrant children will not see their abusers punished and, worse, the knowledge that prosecution is unlikely makes East Asian immigrant children a targeted population for those who abuse
Monotonicity Results for Arithmetic Means of Concave and Convex Functions
By majorization approaches, some known results on monotonicity
of the arithmetic means of convex and concave functions are proved and
generalized once again
Detecting interactions between dark matter and photons at high energy colliders
We investigate the sensitivity to the effective operators describing
interactions between dark matter particles and photons at future high energy
colliders via the \gamma+ \slashed{E} channel. Such operators could
be useful to interpret the potential gamma-ray line signature observed by the
Fermi-LAT. We find that these operators can be further tested at
colliders by using either unpolarized or polarized beams. We also derive a
general unitarity condition for processes and apply it to the dark
matter production process .Comment: 13 pages, 8 figure
Far Infrared Radiation Property of Elbaite/Alumina Composite Materials
Far infrared materials have been prepared by precipitation method using natural elbaite powder as raw materials, which belongs to tourmaline group. The chemical formula of elbaite is Na(Al, Li)3Al6B3Si6O27(O, OH, F)4. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) shows that elbaite and alumina in composite material has good crystal form. In addition, XRD results indicate the formation of alumina crystallites show that alumina powder exists as nano-meter particles on the surface of elbaite powder. It can be calculated the particles diameter of Al2O3 is 47.86nm. The maximum infrared radiation rate of tourmaline/alumina composite materials is 0.89 when the ratio of alumina in elbaite powder is 20%. The infrared radiation rate has been increased by 0.03, compared with single elbaite. It shows that the infrared radiation rate of the composite materials is higher than any of a single component. Two reasons are attributed to the improve of the rate of far infrared radiation: alumina powder exists as nano-meter particles and different materials will increase the absorption peak and the vibration intensity in FTIR spectra
