    Giant Carrier Mobility in Single Crystals of FeSb2

    We report the giant carrier mobility in single crystals of FeSb2. Nonlinear field dependence of Hall resistivity is well described with the two-carrier model. Maximum mobility values in high mobility band reach ~10^5 cm^2/Vs at 8 K, and are ~10^2 cm^2/Vs at the room temperature.     Possible thermodynamic structure underlying the laws of Zipf and Benford

    We show that the laws of Zipf and Benford, obeyed by scores of numerical data generated by many and diverse kinds of natural phenomena and human activity are related to the focal expression of a generalized thermodynamic structure. This structure is obtained from a deformed type of statistical mechanics that arises when configurational phase space is incompletely visited in a severe way. Specifically, the restriction is that the accessible fraction of this space has fractal properties. The focal expression is an (incomplete) Legendre transform between two entropy (or Massieu) potentials that when particularized to first digits leads to a previously existing generalization of Benford's law. The inverse functional of this expression leads to Zipf's law; but it naturally includes the bends or tails observed in real data for small and large rank. Remarkably, we find that the entire problem is analogous to the transition to chaos via intermittency exhibited by low-dimensional nonlinear maps. Our results also explain the generic form of the degree distribution of scale-free networks.Comment: To be published in European Physical Journal

    Elastic Wave Scattering and Dynamic Stress Concentrations in Stretching Thick Plates with Two Cutouts by Using the Refined Dynamic Theory

    Based on the refined dynamic equation of stretching plates, the elastic tension–compression wave scattering and dynamic stress concentrations in the thick plate with two cutouts are studied. In view of the problem that the shear stress is automatically satisfied under the free boundary condition, the generalized stress of the first-order vanishing moment of shear stress is considered. The numerical results indicate that, as the cutout is thick, the maximum value of the dynamic stress factor obtained using the refined dynamic theory is 19% higher than that from the solution of plane stress problems of elastic dynamics

    The 6-vertex model of hydrogen-bonded crystals with bond defects

    It is shown that the percolation model of hydrogen-bonded crystals, which is a 6-vertex model with bond defects, is completely equivalent with an 8-vertex model in an external electric field. Using this equivalence we solve exactly a particular 6-vertex model with bond defects.
