High-responsivity vertical-illumination Si/Ge uni-traveling-carrier photodiodes based on silicon-on-insulator substrate
Si/Ge uni-traveling carrier photodiodes exhibit higher output current when
space-charge effects are overcome and thermal effects are suppressed, which is
highly beneficial for increasing the dynamic range of various microwave
photonic systems and simplifying high-bit-rate digital receivers in different
applications. From the point of view of packaging, detectors with
vertical-illumination configuration can be easily handled by pick-and-place
tools and are a popular choice for making photo-receiver modules. However,
vertical-illumination Si/Ge uni-traveling carrier (UTC) devices suffer from
inter-constraint between high speed and high responsivity. Here, we report a
high responsivity vertical-illumination Si/Ge UTC photodiode based on a
silicon-on-insulator substrate. The maximum absorption efficiency of the
devices was 2.4 times greater than the silicon substrate owing to constructive
interference. The Si/Ge UTC photodiode was successfully fabricated and had a
dominant responsivity at 1550 nm of 0.18 A/W, a 50% improvement even with a 25%
thinner Ge absorption layer.Comment: 5pages,2figure
Indocyanine Green-Loaded Polydopamine-Reduced Graphene Oxide Nanocomposites with Amplifying Photoacoustic and Photothermal Effects for Cancer Theranostics
Photoacoustic (PA) imaging and photothermal therapy (PTT) as light-induced theranostic platforms have been attracted much attention in recent years. However, the development of highly efficient and integrated phototheranostic nanoagents for amplifying PA imaging and PTT treatments poses great challenges. Here, we report a novel phototheranostic nanoagent using indocyanine green-loaded polydopamine-reduced graphene oxide nanocomposites (ICG-PDA-rGO) with amplifying PA and PTT effects for cancer theranostics. The results demonstrate that the PDA layer coating on the surface of rGO could effectively absorb a large number of ICG molecules, quench ICG's fluorescence, and enhance the PDA-rGO's optical absorption at 780 nm. The obtained ICG-PDA-rGO exhibits stronger PTT effect and higher PA contrast than that of pure GO and PDA-rGO. After PA imaging-guided PTT treatments, the tumors in 4T1 breast subcutaneous and orthotopic mice models are suppressed completely and no treatment-induced toxicity being observed. It illustrates that the ICG-PDA-rGO nanocomposites constitute a new class of theranostic nanomedicine for amplifying PA imaging and PTT treatments
Real-time Monitoring for the Next Core-Collapse Supernova in JUNO
Core-collapse supernova (CCSN) is one of the most energetic astrophysical
events in the Universe. The early and prompt detection of neutrinos before
(pre-SN) and during the SN burst is a unique opportunity to realize the
multi-messenger observation of the CCSN events. In this work, we describe the
monitoring concept and present the sensitivity of the system to the pre-SN and
SN neutrinos at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), which is
a 20 kton liquid scintillator detector under construction in South China. The
real-time monitoring system is designed with both the prompt monitors on the
electronic board and online monitors at the data acquisition stage, in order to
ensure both the alert speed and alert coverage of progenitor stars. By assuming
a false alert rate of 1 per year, this monitoring system can be sensitive to
the pre-SN neutrinos up to the distance of about 1.6 (0.9) kpc and SN neutrinos
up to about 370 (360) kpc for a progenitor mass of 30 for the case
of normal (inverted) mass ordering. The pointing ability of the CCSN is
evaluated by using the accumulated event anisotropy of the inverse beta decay
interactions from pre-SN or SN neutrinos, which, along with the early alert,
can play important roles for the followup multi-messenger observations of the
next Galactic or nearby extragalactic CCSN.Comment: 24 pages, 9 figure
DWSA: An Intelligent Document Structural Analysis Model for Information Extraction and Data Mining
The structure of a document contains rich information such as logical relations in context, hierarchy, affiliation, dependence, and applicability. It will greatly affect the accuracy of document information processing, particularly of legal documents and business contracts. Therefore, intelligent document structural analysis is important to information extraction and data mining. However, unlike the well-studied field of text semantic analysis, current work in document structural analysis is still scarce. In this paper, we propose an intelligent document structural analysis framework through data pre-processing, feature engineering, and structural classification with a dynamic sample weighting algorithm. As a typical application, we collect more than 11,000 insurance document content samples and carry out the machine learning experiments to check the efficiency of our framework. Meanwhile, to address the sample imbalance problem in the hierarchy classification task, a dynamic sample weighting algorithm is incorporated into our Dynamic Weighting Structural Analysis (DWSA) framework, in which the weights of different category tags according to the structural levels are iterated dynamically in training. Our results show that the DWSA has significantly improved the comprehensive accuracy and the classification F1-score of each category. The comprehensive accuracy is as high as 94.68% (3.36% absolute improvement) and the Macro F1-score is 88.29% (5.1% absolute improvement)
Attention Model Based Progressive Image Transmission
Progressive image transmission provides a convenient user interface when images are transmitted slowly. However, most of the existing PIT techniques only considered the objective quality of the reconstructed image. Here we present an attention model based progressive image transmission approach to improve the subjective quality of the transmission process. We use both bottom-up image features and top-down semantic information to extract the regions of interest and also propose a new ROI coding scheme based on JPEG2000 to control the trade-off between the transmission of ROI and background. Experiments have shown the efficiency of our approach. 1
