Model-Independent Reionization Observables in the CMB
We represent the reionization history of the universe as a free function in
redshift and study the potential for its extraction from CMB polarization
spectra. From a principal component analysis, we show that the ionization
history information is contained in 5 modes, resembling low-order Fourier modes
in redshift space. The amplitude of these modes represent a compact description
of the observable properties of reionization in the CMB, easily predicted given
a model for the ionization fraction. Measurement of these modes can ultimately
constrain the total optical depth, or equivalently the initial amplitude of
fluctuations to the 1% level regardless of the true model for reionization.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures, submitted to PRD (rapid communications
Early stage morphology of quench condensed Ag, Pb and Pb/Ag hybrid films
Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) has been used to study the morphology of
Ag, Pb and Pb/Ag bilayer films fabricated by quench condensation of the
elements onto cold (T=77K), inert and atomically flat Highly Oriented Pyrolytic
Graphite (HOPG) substrates. All films are thinner than 10 nm and show a
granular structure that is consistent with earlier studies of QC films. The
average lateral diameter, , of the Ag grains, however, depends on
whether the Ag is deposited directly on HOPG ( = 13 nm) or on a Pb
film consisting of a single layer of Pb grains ( = 26.8 nm). In
addition, the critical thickness for electrical conduction () of Pb/Ag
films on inert glass substrates is substantially larger than for pure Ag films.
These results are evidence that the structure of the underlying substrate
exerts an influence on the size of the grains in QC films. We propose a

Reionization by active sources and its effects on the cosmic microwave background
We investigate the possible effects of reionization by active sources on the
cosmic microwave background. We concentrate on the sources themselves as the
origin of reionization, rather than early object formation, introducing an
extra period of heating motivated by the active character of the perturbations.
Using reasonable parameters, this leads to four possibilities depending on the
time and duration of the energy input: delayed last scattering, double last
scattering, shifted last scattering and total reionization. We show that these
possibilities are only very weakly constrained by the limits on spectral
distortions from the COBE FIRAS measurements. We illustrate the effects of
these reionization possibilities on the angular power spectrum of temperature
anisotropies and polarization for simple passive isocurvature models and simple
coherent sources, observing the difference between passive and active models.
Finally, we comment on the implications of this work for more realistic active
sources, such as causal white noise and topological defect models. We show for
these models that non-standard ionization histories can shift the peak in the

Ontologies for Intelligent e-Theraoy: Application to Obesity
[EN] In this paper we propose a new approach for mental e-health
treatments named intelligent e-therapy (e-it) with capabilities for ambient intelligence
and ubiquitous computing. The proposed e-it system supposes an evolution
of cybertherapy and telepsychology tools used up to now. The e-it system
is based in a knowledge base that includes all the knowledge related to the disorder
and its treatment. We introduce the use of ontologies as the best option for

Search for Invisible Decays of and in and
Using a data sample of decays collected with the BES
II detector at the BEPC, searches for invisible decays of and
in to and are performed.
The signals, which are reconstructed in final states, are used
to tag the and decays. No signals are found for the
invisible decays of either or , and upper limits at the 90%
confidence level are determined to be for the ratio
and for . These are the first

Observation of Two New N* Peaks in J/psi -> and Decays
The system in decays of is limited to be
isospin 1/2 by isospin conservation. This provides a big advantage in studying
compared with and experiments which mix
isospin 1/2 and 3/2 for the system. Using 58 million decays
collected with the Beijing Electron Positron Collider, more than 100 thousand
events are obtained. Besides two well known
peaks at 1500 MeV and 1670 MeV, there are two new, clear peaks in
the invariant mass spectrum around 1360 MeV and 2030 MeV. They are the
first direct observation of the peak and a long-sought "missing"
peak above 2 GeV in the invariant mass spectrum. A simple
Breit-Wigner fit gives the mass and width for the peak as MeV and MeV, and for the new peak above 2 GeV
as MeV and MeV, respectively
Determining the upper limit of Gamma_{ee} for the Y(4260)
By fitting the R values between 3.7 and 5.0 GeV measured by the BES
collaboration, the upper limit of the electron width of the newly discovered
resonance Y(4260) is determined to be 580 eV at 90% C.L. Together with the
BABAR measurement on the product of Gamma_{ee} and BR(Y(4260) --> pi+pi-
J/psi), this implies a large decay width of Y(4260) --> pi+pi- J/psi final

Operator renewal theory and mixing rates for dynamical systems with infinite measure
We develop a theory of operator renewal sequences in the context of infinite
ergodic theory. For large classes of dynamical systems preserving an infinite
measure, we determine the asymptotic behaviour of iterates of the
transfer operator. This was previously an intractable problem.
Examples of systems covered by our results include (i) parabolic rational
maps of the complex plane and (ii) (not necessarily Markovian) nonuniformly
expanding interval maps with indifferent fixed points.
In addition, we give a particularly simple proof of pointwise dual ergodicity
(asymptotic behaviour of ) for the class of systems under
consideration.
In certain situations, including Pomeau-Manneville intermittency maps, we
obtain higher order expansions for and rates of mixing. Also, we obtain
error estimates in the associated Dynkin-Lamperti arcsine laws.Comment: Preprint, August 2010. Revised August 2011. After publication, a

Partial Wave Analysis of
BES data on are presented. The
contribution peaks strongly near threshold. It is fitted with a
broad resonance with mass MeV, width MeV. A broad resonance peaking at 2020 MeV is also required
with width MeV. There is further evidence for a component
peaking at 2.55 GeV. The non- contribution is close to phase
