The role of computer use and English proficiency in gender wage inequality: Taiwanese evidence
This paper uses the Blinder-Oaxaca decomposition and accounts for potential identification bias in order to shed light on the role of computer use as well as English ability on the gender wage differential in Taiwan. The results show that both computer use and English proficiency benefit female wage earners and contribute to an equalization of the gender wage gap.Computer Use
DO HEALTH CLAIMS MATTER FOR CONSUMER PREFERENCE ON TEA BEVERAGE? EXPERIMENTAL EVIDENCE FROM TAIWAN
This paper aims to identify consumer preference for tea drinking products in Taiwan by applying conjoint analysis and investigate whether health claims as attributes would influence consumerâs choice behavior. From 1 July to 31 August 2005, 620 consumers of tea drinking products participated in the choice-based conjoint experiment, which conducted in the city of Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung in Taiwan. The data were collected in supermarket using questionnaire for personal interviews. Overall, the estimated individual models fit the data well using Conditional Logit Model. Regarding the result of âOriginal Teaâ, consumerâs order ranking of tea category is green tea, oolong tea, and black tea. The most importance on the standard that health claims have positive influence on higher likelihood of purchasing tea drinks. In addition, consumer prefers to tea drinks with Catechins, processing technology using cold extraction, and paper package. However, it could be seen that as the price increases the utility for the consumer decreases. Also, we report the negative relationship between price and purchasing intention. It is found that respondents preferred to tea drinking products with health claims. This result stands for consumerâs concern on their health status by intaking additives like Catechins. Our results also suggest that respondents prefer that tea drinks include less sugar that implies that the product is produced âlightâ.Tea Drinking Products, Consumer Preference, Health Claims, Conjoint Analysis, Conditional Logit Model, Agricultural and Food Policy, Consumer/Household Economics, Demand and Price Analysis, Food Consumption/Nutrition/Food Safety, Food Security and Poverty, Health Economics and Policy,

An easy approach to derive EOQ and EPQ models with shortage and defective items
Huang [Journal of Statistics and Management Systems, Vol. 6, No. 2, pp. 171-180, 2003.] studied the EOQ (Economic Order Quantity) and EPQ (Economic Production Quantity) models with backlogging and defective
items using the algebraic approach. He assumed that a 100% inspection policy and the known proportion of defective items was removed after the screening process prior to storage or use. In this paper, we will offer another simple approach to find both the optimal lot size and backorder level under the minimized total relevant cost per unit time
Demonstration of the Interaction between Two Stopped Light Pulses
We report the first experimental demonstration that two light pulses were
made motionless and interacted with each other via a medium. The interaction
time is, in principle, as long as possible and a considerable efficiency can be
achieved even below single-photon level. We utilized the optical process of one
photon pulse switched by another based on the effect of electromagnetically
induced transparency to demonstrate the enhancement of optical nonlinear
efficiency. With moving light pulses, the switching is activated at energy per
area of 2 photons per atomic absorption cross section in the best situation as
discussed in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 82, 4611 (1999)]. With motionless light pulses,
we demonstrated that the switching is activated at 0.56 photons per atomic
absorption cross section and that the light level can be further reduced by
increasing the optical density of the medium. Our work enters a new regime of
low light physics.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figure
