Key Technology, Programmatic Drivers, and Lessons Learned for Production of Proliferated Small Satellite Constellations

    Get PDF
Proliferated small satellites are a critical element of achieving a more capable and resilient space enterprise vision. Current game-changing initiatives across the U.S. government seek to achieve robust, agile capabilities inherent with large-scale constellations and to leverage the significant investments being made in the commercial sector. Production scale and pace are critical elements for affordability. A measured balance between modularity, autonomy, rightsized verification concepts, and rigorous supply chain management permits rapid, cost effective mission deployments. Maxar (formerly Space Systems Loral), has gained unique insights to key production methods and lessons learned to enable these capabilities from several active programs, including delivery of nearly 20 SkySat-C spacecraft to Planet, development of Maxar’s WorldView Legion imaging constellation for launch in 2021, and preliminary efforts on Telesat’s LEO 200+ satellite communications constellation. In this paper, we will provide metrics from these programs along with discussion about derived insights, as well as recommendations for how the community should continue to evolve to meet the stringent performance and affordability thresholds required to achieve a resilient proliferated LEO vision

TGFβ1 orchestrates renal fibrosis following Escherichia coli pyelonephritis

Renal scarring after pyelonephritis is linked to long-term health risks for hypertension and chronic kidney disease. Androgen exposure increases susceptibility to, and severity of, uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) pyelonephritis and resultant scarring in both male and female mice, while anti-androgen therapy is protective against severe urinary tract infection (UTI) in these models. This work employed androgenized female C57BL/6 mice to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of post-infectious renal fibrosis and to determine how these pathways are altered by the presence of androgens. We found that elevated circulating testosterone levels primed the kidney for fibrosis by increasing local production of TGFβ1 before the initiation of UTI, altering the ratio of transcription factors Smad2 and Smad3 and increasing the presence of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-like cells and Gli1 + activated myofibroblasts, the cells primarily responsible for deposition of scar components. Increased production of TGFβ1 and aberrations in Smad2:Smad3 were maintained throughout the course of infection in the presence of androgen, correlating with renal scarring that was not observed in non-androgenized female mice. Pharmacologic inhibition of TGFβ1 signaling blunted myofibroblast activation. We conclude that renal fibrosis after pyelonephritis is exacerbated by the presence of androgens and involves activation of the TGFβ1 signaling cascade, leading to increases in cortical populations of MSC-like cells and the Gli1 + activated myofibroblasts that are responsible for scarring

This thesis considers Jesus' speech at the revelation to the disciples the evening after the resurrection described in John 20: 21-23. Here Jesus commands the disciples, breathes on them, and offers the Holy Spirit. Then He pronounces a peculiar statement about the forgiveness and retention of sins. The first part of the thesis presents translation, textual criticism, literary form and genre criticism, structural analysis, context, and intertextual links, followed by my interpretation of the text. The second part surveys the history of the interpretation of these verses from the early Christian authors, through patristics, the Middle Ages, the Reformation period, the 19th and 20th centuries up to the present day. It considers Catholic, Lutheran, Reformed, Anglican, and Orthodox views. Conclusion synthesizes the diverse views through the following questions: Who is challenged in verses 21-23? What is the liturgical significance of verses 21-23? Who forgives in verse 23? What are the conditions of forgiveness? Who is to be forgiven in the verse 23? Is the proclamation of forgiveness just an antithesis of the Reformation? What is the meaning of retention of the sins in verse 23b?Práca sa zaoberá Ježišovou rečou pri zjavení učeníkom večer po vzkriesení v Jn 20:21- 23. Tu Ježiš vysiela učeníkov, vdychuje im a vyzýva ich prijať Svätého Ducha a napokon hovorí zvláštny výrok o odpúšťaní a zadržiavaní hriechov.

Naměřené hodnoty byly zpracovány a porovnány s teoretickým modelem. The aim of the diploma thesis is pass judgment on influence of humidity on insula-tive characteristics of web for sleeping-bags. This thesis is bipartite. First part is theoretical and describes problems of thermal insulative characteristics of web for sleeping-bags. Second part is experimental and examines influence of humidity on the heat conductivity of web for sleeping-bags by the help of apparatus Lamb-dameter. Experiment is bipartite. First part of experiment is realized in conditioning chamber at temperature +10, +20, +50 °C. Absolute humidity was over this meter-ing in the range 0 - 80 g∙m-3.
