TiO2 Nanocrystals Grown on Graphene as Advanced Photocatalytic Hybrid Materials

    Get PDF
Graphene/TiO2 nanocrystals hybrid is successfully prepared by directly growing TiO2 nanocrystals on graphene oxide (GO) sheets. The direct growth of nanocrystals on GO sheets was achieved by a two-step method, in which TiO2 was coated on GO sheets by hydrolysis first and crystallized into anatase nanocrystals by hydrothermal treatment in second step. Slow hydrolysis reaction through the use of EtOH/H2O mixed solvents and addition of H2SO4 allows the selectively growing TiO2 on GO and suppressing free growth in solution. The method offers easy access to the GO/TiO2 nanocrystals hybrid with well controlled coating and strong interactions between TiO2 and the underlying GO sheets. The strong coupling could lead to advanced hybrid materials for various applications including photocatalysis. The prepared graphene/TiO2 nanocrystals hybrid has demonstrated superior photocatalytic activity in degradation of rhodamine B over other TiO2 materials, showing an impressive 3-fold photocatalytic enhancement over P25. It is expected that the hybrid material could also be promising for various other applications including lithium ion battery where strong electrical coupling to TiO2 nanoparticles is essential.Comment: Nano Research, in pres

This paper presents the design of high frequency ultrasonic transducers for micro/nano device thermosonic bonding. The transducers are actuated by piezoelectric ceramics and decoupled with their connecting parts through novel flexure decoupling flanges. Firstly, the initial geometric dimensions of the transducers were calculated using electromechanical equivalent method, then dynamic optimization design was carried out based on 3D finite element method (FEM), and the geometric dimensions of the transducer were finally determined. Flexure decoupling flanges were presented, and the decoupling principle of the flanges was explained through compliance modeling using compliance matrix method and FEM. After that the dynamic characteristics of the transducers were analyzed through finite element analysis (FEA). The vibration frequencies and modes of the piezoelectric converter, concentrators and transducers were obtained through modal analysis, and the displacement nodes were determined. The longitudinal ultrasonic energy transmission was presented and the decoupling effects of the flexure flanges were compared. Finally, the transducers were manufactured and experimental tests were conducted to examine the transducer characteristics using an impedance analyzer. The experimental results match well with the FEA. The results show that the longitudinal vibration frequencies of the transducers with ring, prismatic beam and circular notched hinge based flanges are 126.6 kHz, 125.8 kHz and 125.52 kHz, respectively. The decoupling flange with circular notched hinges shows the best decoupling effect among the three types of flanges

Genetic polymorphism of X-ray repair crosscomplementing group 3 (XRCC3) Thr241Met has been implicated to alter the risk of ovarian cancer, but the results are controversial. In order to get a more precise result, a meta-analysis was performed. All eligible studies were identified through an extensive search in PubMed, Excerpta Medica Database (Embase), Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure database, and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database before August 2013. The association between the XRCC3 Thr241Met polymorphism and ovarian cancer risk was conducted by odds ratios (ORs) and 95 % confidence intervals (95 % CIs). Finally, a total of four publications including seven studies with 3,635 cases and 5,473 controls were included in our meta-analysis. Overall, there was no association between XRCC3 Thr241Met polymorphism and risk of ovarian cancer under all five genetic models in overall population (T vs. C: OR = 0.99, 95 % CI = 0.960–1.03, P = 0.752; TT vs. CC: OR = 1.00, 95 % CI = 0.91–1.10, P = 0.943; TC vs. TT: OR = 0.97, 95 % CI = 0.92–1.04, P = 0.396, Fig. 1; TT vs. TC/CC: OR = 1.00, 95 % CI = 0.91–1.12, P = 0.874; TT/TC vs. CC: OR = 0.98, 95 % CI = 0.94–1.03, P = 0.486). In the subgroup analysis according to ethnicity, the results suggested that XRCC3 Thr241Met polymorphism was not associated with the risk of ovarian cancer in Caucasians population. No significant association was found between the XRCC3 Thr241 Met polymorphism and the risk of ovarian cancer. Given the limited sample size and ethnicities included in the meta-analysis, further large scaled and well-designed studies are needed to confirm our results

ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) combined with percutaneous ethanol injection (PEI) and lenvatinib in HCC patients with PVTT (Vp2-3), thus providing a safe and effective treatment strategy for advanced HCC patients.Materials and methodsClinical data of 227 patients with unresectable HCC and PVTT treated at the Union Hospital from January 2018 to December 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into two groups according to their treatment methods: TACE+PEI+lenvatinib group (N=103) and TACE+lenvatinib group (N=124).ResultsThe proportion of patients with disappearance, shrinkage, or no change of PVTT after treatment was significantly higher in the TACE+PEI+lenvatinib group compared to the TACE+lenvatinib group, with statistical significance (P<0.001). The TACE+PEI+lenvatinib group had higher objective response rate (ORR) (50.5% vs. 25.8%, P<0.001) and disease control rate (DCR) (87.4% vs. 74.2%, P=0.013) than the TACE+lenvatinib group. The median progression-free survival (mPFS) of the TACE+PEI+lenvatinib group was longer than that of the TACE+lenvatinib group (8.1 months vs. 6.5 months, P<0.001). Consistently, the median overall survival (mOS) of the TACE+PEI+lenvatinib group was longer than that of the TACE+lenvatinib group (17.1 months vs. 13.9 months, P<0.001).ConclusionAmong HCC patients with PVTT (Vp2-3), TACE+PEI+lenvatinib is more effective comparing to TACE+lenvatinib in prolonging PFS and OS. The control of PVTT in the TACE+PEI+lenvatinib group was significantly more satisfactory than that in the TACE+lenvatinib group. TACE+PEI+lenvatinib is a safe and effective treatment strategy for HCC patients with PVTT (Vp2-3)

A novel monolithic piezoelectric actuated wire clamp is presented in this paper to achieve fast, accurate, and robust microelectronic device packaging. The wire clamp has compact, flexure-based mechanical structure and light weight. To obtain large and robust jaw displacements and ensure parallel jaw grasping, a two-stage amplification composed of a homothetic bridge type mechanism and a parallelogram leverage mechanism was designed. Pseudo-rigid-body model and Lagrange approaches were employed to conduct the kinematic, static, and dynamic modeling of the wire clamp and optimization design was carried out. The displacement amplification ratio, maximum allowable stress, and natural frequency were calculated. Finite element analysis (FEA) was conducted to evaluate the characteristics of the wire clamp and wire electro discharge machining technique was utilized to fabricate the monolithic structure. Experimental tests were carried out to investigate the performance and the experimental results match well with the theoretical calculation and FEA. The amplification ratio of the clamp is 20.96 and the working mode frequency is 895 Hz. Step response test shows that the wire clamp has fast response and high accuracy and the motion resolution is 0.2 μm. High speed precision grasping operations of gold and copper wires were realized using the wire clamper
