    Hypothermia combined with neuroprotective adjuvants shortens the duration of hospitalization in infants with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy: Meta-analysis

    Objective: Therapeutic hypothermia (TH) is the current standard of care for neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), yet morbidity and mortality remain significant. Adjuvant neuroprotective agents have been suggested to augment hypothermic-mediated neuroprotection. This analysis aims to identify the classes of drugs that have been used in combination with hypothermia in the treatment of neonatal HIE and determine whether combination therapy is more efficacious than TH alone.Methods: A systematic search of PubMed, Embase and Medline from conception through December 2022 was conducted. Randomized- and quasi-randomized controlled trials, observational studies and retrospective studies evaluating HIE infants treated with combination therapy versus TH alone were selected. Primary reviewers extracted information on mortality, neurodevelopmental impairment and length of hospitalization for meta-analyses. Effect sizes were pooled using a random-effects model and measured as odds ratio (OR) or mean difference (MD) where applicable, and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated. Risk of bias was assessed using the tool from the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions.Results: The search strategy collected 519 studies, 16 of which met analysis inclusion criteria. HIE infants totaled 1,288 infants from included studies, 646 infants received some form of combination therapy, while 642 received TH alone. GABA receptor agonists, NMDA receptor antagonists, neurogenic and angiogenic agents, stem cells, glucocorticoids and antioxidants were identified as candidate adjuvants to TH that have been evaluated in clinical settings compared to TH alone. Length of hospitalization was significantly reduced in infants treated with combination therapy (MD −4.81, 95% CI [−8.42. to −1.19], p = .009) compared to those treated with TH alone. Risk of mortality and neurodevelopmental impairment did not differ between combination therapy and TH alone groups.Conclusion: Compared to the current standard of care, administration of neuroprotective adjuvants with TH reduced the duration of hospitalization but did not impact the risk of mortality or neurodevelopmental impairment in HIE infants. Meta-analysis was limited by a moderate risk of bias among included studies and small sample sizes. This analysis highlights the need for preclinical trials to conduct drug development studies in hypothermic settings to identify relevant molecular targets that may offer additive or synergistic neuroprotection to TH, and the need for larger powered clinical trials to determine the dose and timing of administration at which maximal clinical benefits are observed for adjuvant neuroprotectants

    Deforming black holes with even multipolar differential rotation boundary

    Motivated by the novel asymptotically global AdS4_4 solutions with deforming horizon in [JHEP {\bf 1802}, 060 (2018)], we analyze the boundary metric with even multipolar differential rotation and numerically construct a family of deforming solutions with quadrupolar differential rotation boundary, including two classes of solutions: solitons and black holes. In contrast to solutions with dipolar differential rotation boundary, we find that even though the norm of Killing vector ∂t\partial_t becomes spacelike for certain regions of polar angle θ\theta when ε>2\varepsilon>2, solitons and black holes with quadrupolar differential rotation still exist and do not develop hair due to superradiance. Moreover, at the same temperature, the horizonal deformation of quadrupolar rotation is smaller than that of dipolar rotation. Furthermore, we also study the entropy and quasinormal modes of the solutions, which have the analogous properties to that of dipolar rotation.Comment: 18 pages, 21 figure

    Deforming charged black holes with dipolar differential rotation boundary

    Motivated by the recent studies of the novel asymptotically global AdS4_4 black hole with deforming horizon, we consider the action of Einstein-Maxwell gravity in AdS spacetime and construct the charged deforming AdS black holes with differential boundary. In contrast to deforming black hole without charge, there exists at least one value of horizon for an arbitrary temperature. The extremum of temperature is determined by charge qq and divides the range of temperature into several parts. Moreover, we use an isometric embedding in the three-dimensional space to investigate the horizon geometry. We also study the entropy and quasinormal modes of deforming charged AdS black hole. It is interesting to find there exist two families of black hole solutions with different horizon radius for a fixed temperature, but these two black holes have same horizon geometry and entropy. Due to the existence of charge qq, the phase diagram of entropy is more complicated.Comment: 19 pages, 9 figure

    CARLA-Loc: Synthetic SLAM Dataset with Full-stack Sensor Setup in Challenging Weather and Dynamic Environments

    The robustness of SLAM algorithms in challenging environmental conditions is crucial for autonomous driving, but the impact of these conditions are unknown while given the difficulty of arbitrarily changing the relevant environmental parameters of the same environment in the real world. Therefore, we propose CARLA-Loc, a synthetic dataset of challenging and dynamic environments built on CARLA simulator. We integrate multiple sensors into the dataset with strict calibration, synchronization and precise timestamping. 7 maps and 42 sequences are posed in our dataset with different dynamic levels and weather conditions. Objects in both stereo images and point clouds are well-segmented with their class labels. We evaluate 5 visual-based and 4 LiDAR-based approaches on varies sequences and analyze the effect of challenging environmental factors on the localization accuracy, showing the applicability of proposed dataset for validating SLAM algorithms

    Weak cosmic censorship in Born-Infeld electrodynamics and bound on charge-to-mass ratio

    We construct a class of counterexamples to cosmic censorship in four dimensional Einstein-Born-Infeld theory with asymptotically anti-de Sitter boundary conditions, and investigate the effect of the Born-Infeld parameter bb in comparison with the counterpart of Einstein-Maxwell theory. When a charged massive scalar field is included into the action, we find that this class of counterexamples to cosmic censorship would be removed if the charge of scalar fields is above the minimum value of charge qminq_{min}. In particular, the minimum value of charge required to preserve cosmic censorship increases with the increasing of Born-Infeld parameter. Meanwhile, we also show the lower bounds on charge-to-mass ratio with the different values of Born-Infeld parameter.Comment: 14 pages, 9 figure

    microRNA 490-3P enhances the drug-resistance of human ovarian cancer cells

    BACKGROUND: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are non-coding, single-stranded small RNAs that regulate gene expression negatively, which is involved in fundamental cellular processes. In this study, we investigated the role of miR-490-3P in the development of drug resistance in ovarian cancer cells. METHODS: The human ovarian carcinoma cell line A2780 and A2780/Taxol were exposed to paclitaxel in the presence or absence of microRNA 490-3P transfection, after which cell viability were performed by CCK-8 assay. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and western blotting were used to assess the mRNA and protein expression levels of GST-π, MDR1 or P-gp. RESULTS: Our results showed higher miR-490-3P mRNA expression level in A2780/Taxol cells than in A2780 cells (p < 0.05). Following miR-490-3P transfection, both A2780 and A2780/Taxol cells showed decreased sensitivity to paclitaxel. The mRNA expression levels of MDR1, GST-π (p < 0.05) and protein expression levels of P-gp, GST-π were down-regulated after miR-490-3P transfection in comparison to mock and negative control cancer cells. CONCLUSION: Our results demonstrate for the first time that microRNA 490-3P may be involved in the development of drug resistance in ovarian cancer.     In the title compound, C14H10FN3O, the six- and five-membered rings of the isatin moiety and the six-membered ring of phenyl­hydrazone are nearly planar with r.m.s. deviations of 0.0003, 0.0004 and 0.007 Å, respectively. The dihedral angle between the phenyl ring and the isatin ring system is 6.09 (9)°. The mol­ecular structure is stabilized by a strong intra­molecular N—H⋯O hydrogen bond, leading to the formation of a pseudo-six-membered ring, generating an S(6) ring.     Efficacy and safety of different doses of epidural morphine coadministered with low-concentration ropivacaine after cesarean section: A retrospective cohort study

    Objective: The optimal dose of epidural morphine after cesarean section (CS) still remains unknown when combined with low-concentration ropivacaine based on a continuous basal infusion (CBI) mode. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of different dose of epidural morphine plus ropivacaine on maternal outcomes.Materials and methods: Data of parturients who received epidural analgesia for CS at a teaching hospital from March 2021 to June 2022 were retrospectively collected. Parturients were divided into two groups (RM3 group and RM6 group) according to different medication regimens of morphine. The implementation of epidural analgesia was performed with 3 mg morphine in RM3 group and 6 mg morphine in RM6 group in combination with 0.1% ropivacaine via a CBI pump. The primary outcomes included pain intensity at rest and movement and the incidence of urinary retention and pruritus within postoperative 48 h. The secondary outcomes included the incidence and severity of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) and pruritus, the rate of rescue analgesia and grading of motor Block.Results: Totally, 531 parturients were eligible for the final analysis, with 428 and 103 parturients in the RM3 group and RM6 group, respectively. There were no statistically significant differences in the visual analogue scores (VAS) at rest and movement within postoperative 48 h between the two groups (all p &gt; 0.05). Compared with the RM6 group, the incidence of urinary retention was lower in the RM3 group within 48 h after CS (4.0% vs. 8.7%, p = 0.044). No significant difference was found in the incidence and severity of PONV and pruritus, the rate of rescue analgesia and grading of motor block between RM3 and RM6 groups.Conclusion: Epidural 3 mg morphine plus 0.1% ropivacaine in a CBI mode can provide equal efficacy and have lower incidence of urinary retention compared with 6 mg morphine after CS

    Corrosion resistance of Mg-Al-LDH steam coating on AZ80 Mg alloy: Effects of citric acid pretreatment and intermetallic compounds

    In this study, the effects of intermetallic compounds (Mg17Al12 and Al8Mn5) on the Mg-Al layered double hydroxide (LDH) formation mechanism and corrosion behavior of an in-situ LDH/Mg(OH)2 steam coatings on AZ80 Mg alloy were investigated. Citric acid (CA) was used to activate the alloy surface during the pretreatment process. The alloy was first pretreated with CA and then subjected to a hydrothermal process using ultrapure water to produce Mg-Al-LDH/Mg(OH)2 steam coating. The effect of different time of acid pretreatment on the activation of the intermetallic compounds was investigated. The microstructure and elemental composition of the obtained coatings were analyzed using FE-SEM, EDS, XRD and FT-IR. The corrosion resistance of the coated samples was evaluated using different techniques, i.e., potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), electrochemical impedance spectrum (EIS) and hydrogen evolution test. The results indicated that the CA pretreatment significantly influenced the activity of the alloy surface by exposing the intermetallic compounds. The surface area fraction of Mg17Al12 and Al8Mn5 phases on the surface of the alloy was significantly higher after the CA pretreatment, and thus promoted the growth of the subsequent Mg-Al-LDH coatings. The CA pretreatment for 30 s resulted in a denser and thicker LDH coating. Increase in the CA pretreatment time significantly led to the improvement in corrosion resistance of the coated AZ80 alloy. The corrosion current density of the coated alloy was lower by three orders of magnitude as compared to the uncoated alloy
