Cohort records study of 19,655 women who received postabortion care in a tertiary hospital 2010ā2013 in China : what trends can be observed?
The retrospective cohort epidemiological study was to investigate the characteristics of women who underwent induced abortion. Data were retrospectively collected from women who underwent induced abortions () at the Xiamen Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital (2010ā2013). The characteristics of women who underwent induced abortions included mean age, unmarried status, no previous deliveries, first pregnancy, ā„2 abortions including the current one, and a history of caesarian section. From 2010 to 2013, mean age increased and declines were observed in the ratio of induced abortions to live births, the proportion of induced abortions among women of 15ā24 years, those who were unmarried, had their first pregnancy, or had no history of delivery. However, the rates of induced abortions increased among women who were lactating, had a history of caesarian section, or had an interpregnancy interval of <6 months. This snapshot of induced abortions in China might suggest that the numbers are increasing but the ratio to live births has fallen. Methods should be improved to prevent unwanted pregnancies and reduce the number of induced abortions in China. It must be emphasized that differences in mentality and culture between countries might limit the representativeness of these results
Corrosion behavior and characteristics of passive films of laser powder bed fusion produced Ti-6Al-4V in dynamic Hankās solution
The corrosion behavior of laser powder bed fusion produced (L-PBF-produced) titanium alloys involving flowing body fluid is still unclear. Therefore, this work investigates in vitro corrosion behavior and the characteristics of passive films formed on L-PBF-produced Tiā6Alā4V in both static and dynamic Hankās solutions. Electrochemical measurements, immersion tests, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy were conducted. In comparison to the L-PBF-produced Tiā6Alā4V in static Hankās solution, the samples showed lower charge transfer resistance and higher passivation current density (anodic current density as well) in dynamic Hankās solution. Meanwhile, a more apparent deposition of apatite and hydroxyapatite is found on the L-PBF-produced Tiā6Alā4V in dynamic Hankās solution. Such outcomes mainly result from the enhancement of film/solution interfacial transportation in dynamic Hankās solution. The dynamic Hankās solution provides more calcium and phosphate ions to the surface of the passive film and also takes away the dissolved metal ions. Therefore, more salt deposition and a lower-quality passive film are found
Analgesic effect of auricular point acupressure for acute pain in patients with dementia: Study protocol for a randomized controlled trial
Background: Common and frequent as acute pain is, it is often underestimated and undertreated in older people with dementia in nursing homes and inadequate pain management remains an issue. Methods: The study is designed to be a randomized, sham-controlled trial and is underway in nursing homes located in China. A total of 206 dementia patients are being recruited from nursing homes in Yinchuan, China. They are randomly allocated to an intervention or a controlled group in a 1:1 ratio. The intervention group will be treated with true APP therapy, while the other group will receive APP at sham point stimulation therapy. The patients will be assessed at baseline (T0), at 5 min during performing the intervention (T1), and at 5 min after completion of the intervention (T2). The primary outcome is the level of pain relief at T1 and T2. Physiological parameters, side effects and additional use of analgesics during the procedure, satisfaction from caregivers, and acceptance of patients are evaluated as secondary outcomes. Discussion: The results of this study are expected to verify the analgesic effect of APP for acute pain in patients with mild dementia in nursing homes. It has the potential to prompt APP therapy to be implemented widely in dementia patients with acute pain in nursing homes. Trial registration: Chinese Clinical Trial Registry ChiCTR2100047932. Registered on 27 June 2021. Currently, patient recruitment is ongoing. Recruitment is expected to take place from December 2020 to December 2021

Da-Bu-Yin-Wan and Qian-Zheng-San Ameliorate Mitochondrial Dynamics in the Parkinsonās Disease Cell Model Induced by MPP+
To investigate the effect of Da-Bu-Yin-Wan and Qian-Zheng-San (DBYW and QZS) on mitochondrial mass in Parkinsonās disease (PD) cell model induced by 1-Methyl-4-phenylpyridinium Ion (MPP+). The SH-SY5Y cell was selected and treated with MPP+. The PD model was intervened with DBYW and QZS. CCK-8 method was used to detect the survival rate of cells in each group. Mitochondria was labeled by mitoTrackerĀ®Red CMXRos probe and observed by laser scanning confocal microscope, and ImageJ software was used to process images and measure mitochondrial form factors; Tetramethylrhodamine methyl ester was used to detect mitochondrial membrane potential (ĪĪØm); Luciferase method was used to detect cellular ATP levels; Western-Blot technique was applied to detect the expression levels of Parkin protein, and the expression levels of Mfn1, Mfn2, OPA1, Drp1, and Fis1. We found that DBYW and QZS treatment significantly increased the cell survival rate, form factor (F-factor), mitochondrial activity and ĪĪØm after MPP+ treatment, while the increase of ATP levels was not significant. In addition, the results of western blot analysis showed that the MPP+ induced increase in the expression of Drp1 and Fis1, as well as decrease in Parkin, Mfn1, Mfn2, and OPA1 were all partially revised by DBYW and QZS. In summary, our data strongly suggested that DBYW and QZS treatment can exert protective effects against PD related neuronal injury through regulation the homeostasis between mitochondrial fission and fusion
Low N Fertilizer Application and Intercropping Increases N Concentration in Pea (Pisum sativum L.) Grains
Sustainable intensification of pulses needs reduced input of nitrogen (N) fertilizer with enhanced crop nutritional quality and yield. Therefore, increasing N harvest in grains (sink organs) by improving N remobilization is of key importance. Previous research has shown that a lower dose of N fertilizer effectively increases the rate of N remobilization, while intercropping improves the grain N concentration in pea (Pisum sativum L.). However, it is unknown whether intercropping can facilitate this N fertilizer effect to increase N remobilization, and thereby enhance the N harvest index (NHI). In this study, we determined N allocation among different organs of pea plants, N translocation from leaf and stem tissues to pods, N2 fixation, N utilization efficiency, and NHI of pea plants grown alone or intercropped with maize (Zea mays L.) with different N fertilization treatments in a field experiment in northwestern China from 2012 to 2014. A base application of 90 kg N haā1 at sowing and top-dress application of 45 kg N haā1 at flowering integrated with maizeāpea intercropping increased N allocation to pod tissues, N translocation to grains, and NHI of pea plants. Compared with the application of 90 kg N haā1 at sowing and 135 kg N haā1 top-dressed at flowering, reducing the top-dress application of N fertilizer to 45 kg N haā1 increased N allocation to intercropped pea plants by 8%. Similarly, N translocation to grains from leaf and stem tissues was increased by 37.9 and 43.2%, respectively, enhancing the NHI by 40.1%. A positive correlation between N2 fixation and NHI was observed, implying that N2 fixation improves N concentration in grain sinks. Thus, our data show that growing pulses in an intercropping system with reduced N fertilization are essential for maximizing N translocation, improving nutritional quality, and preventing the loss of N through leaching, thereby avoiding potential groundwater contamination
Changes in Histopathological and Serological Findings of the Liver after Treatment in Rabbit Clonorchiasis
In order to elucidate the recovery course and the residual change of clonorchiasis
after praziquantel treatment, the changing pattem of histopathological findings of the
liver, along with the serological, biochemical and hematological parameters, were evaluated
in experimental rabbit clonorchiasis. Twenty rabbits were infected each with 300 metacercariae
of Clonorchis sinensis and treated with praziquantel 200 mg/kg 14 weeks after infection.
Until one year after infection, a Widening of the bile ducts, proliferation of biliary
epithelium, and periductal fibrosis were observed in the liver, although the lesions became
much milder than those of the untreated rabbits. The levels of anti-e. sinensis IgG antibody
in the sera by EUSA decreased continuously after treatment. Biochemical items and hematological
parameters showed no consistent changing pattem after infection or after treatment. It
can be suggested that the histopathological lesions of rabbit cionorchlais, i.e., duct dilatation,
hyperplasia of biliary epithelium and periductal fibrosis, may be hardly reversible. However,
the level of circulating specific IgG antibody decreased significantly according to the healing
process of inflammation
