Prediction-error of Prediction Error (PPE)-based Reversible Data Hiding
This paper presents a novel reversible data hiding (RDH) algorithm for
gray-scaled images, in which the prediction-error of prediction error (PPE) of
a pixel is used to carry the secret data. In the proposed method, the pixels to
be embedded are firstly predicted with their neighboring pixels to obtain the
corresponding prediction errors (PEs). Then, by exploiting the PEs of the
neighboring pixels, the prediction of the PEs of the pixels can be determined.
And, a sorting technique based on the local complexity of a pixel is used to
collect the PPEs to generate an ordered PPE sequence so that, smaller PPEs will
be processed first for data embedding. By reversibly shifting the PPE histogram
(PPEH) with optimized parameters, the pixels corresponding to the altered PPEH
bins can be finally modified to carry the secret data. Experimental results
have implied that the proposed method can benefit from the prediction procedure
of the PEs, sorting technique as well as parameters selection, and therefore
outperform some state-of-the-art works in terms of payload-distortion
performance when applied to different images.Comment: There has no technical difference to previous versions, but rather
some minor word corrections. A 2-page summary of this paper was accepted by

Parthenolide attenuates LPS-induced activation of NF-κB in a time-dependent manner in rat myocardium.
Parthenolide (PTN), a selective nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) inhibitor, has been used extensively to inhibit NF-κB activation. The duration of the inhibitory effect of PTN on NF-κB in vivo remains unclear. This study was to determine whether a lipopolysaccharide (LPS) challenge 6, 12 and 24 h after the administration of PTN could activate NF-κB. Rats were devided into five groups. The rats in the PTN, PTN+LPS and DMSO groups were injected intraperitoneally with PTN or DMSO. After 6, 12 or 24 h, LPS was administered in LPS and PTN+LPS groups. The expressions of NF-κB p50, IκBα and p-IκBα were inhibited in both PTN and PTN+LPS group at end of 6 and 12 h and no effects at 24 h. In summary, myocardial NF-κB expression occurs 1 h after the administration of LPS. PTN blocks this effect given at 6 h and no inhibitory effect 24 h after administration in vivo
Roles of TGFβ and FGF signals during growth and differentiation of mouse lens epithelial cell in vitro.
Transforming growth factor β (TGFβ) and fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling pathways play important roles in the proliferation and differentiation of lens epithelial cells (LECs) during development. Low dosage bFGF promotes cell proliferation while high dosage induces differentiation. TGFβ signaling regulates LEC proliferation and differentiation as well, but also promotes epithelial-mesenchymal transitions that lead to cataracts. Thus far, it has been difficult to recapitulate the features of germinative LECs in vitro. Here, we have established a LEC culture protocol that uses SB431542 (SB) compound to inhibit TGFβ/Smad activation, and found that SB treatment promoted mouse LEC proliferation, maintained LECs' morphology and distinct markers including N-cadherin, c-Maf, Prox1, and αA-, αB-, and β-crystallins. In contrast, low-dosage bFGF was unable to sustain those markers and, combined with SB, altered LECs' morphology and β-crystallin expression. We further found that Matrigel substrate coatings greatly increased cell proliferation and uniquely affected β-crystallin expression. Cultured LECs retained the ability to differentiate into γ-crystallin-positive lentoids by high-dosage bFGF treatment. Thus, a suppression of TGFβ/Smad signaling in vitro is critical to maintaining characteristic features of mouse LECs, especially expression of the key transcription factors c-Maf and Prox1
Searching for Charged Higgs Boson in Polarized Top Quark
The charged Higgs boson is quite common in many new physics models. In this
study we examine the potential of observing a heavy charged Higgs boson in its
decay mode of top-quark and bottom-quark in the Type-II
Two-Higgs-Doublet-Model. In this model, the chirality structure of the coupling
of charged Higgs boson to the top- and bottom-quark is very sensitive to the
value of . As the polarization of the top-quark can be measured
experimentally from the top-quark decay products, one could make use of the
top-quark polarization to determine the value of . We preform a
detailed analysis of measuring top-quark polarization in the production
channels and . We calculate the helicity
amplitudes of the charged Higgs boson production and decay. Our calculation
shows that the top-quark from the charged Higgs boson decay provides a good
probe for measuring , especially for the intermediate
region. On the contrary, the top-quark produced in association with the charged
Higgs boson cannot be used to measure because its polarization is
highly contaminated by the -channel kinematics.Comment: 21 pages, 12 figures, 2 table
Different critical points of chiral and deconfinement phase transitions in (2+1)-dimensional fermion-gauge interacting model
Based on the truncated Dyson-Schwinger equations for fermion and massive
boson propagators in QED, the fermion chiral condensate and the mass
singularities of the fermion propagator via the Schwinger function are
investigated. It is shown that the critical point of chiral phase transition is
apparently different from that of deconfinement phase transition and in Nambu
phase the fermion is confined only for small gauge boson mass.Comment: 5 Pages and 3 figure
